Which Ultra Is Looking Better?

As strange as this may sound, I feel like Hawk is a spiritual Ryu who was my main in Vanilla. He doesn’t really have a FB, but spire seems to have a similar concept with a big upper hit box and can sometimes be surprising. Hawk’s SRK goes forward just like a shoto’s does and CD can cross up like tatsu. I imagine most people are gong to scoff at my opinion.

Coming from a shoto and relying on SRK as an AA, U2 feels like a super SRK, although it’s sometimes a PITA to connect (the command motion is difficult to perform unless you’re buffering it from 1/4 screen waiting for the person to jump) I’ve become more accurate with it. When I choose U1, I almost NEVER use it when it’s ready. I feel like people are just going to do whatever they can do avoid being on the ground near me and when I do try it it misses. Even with Hawk’s long range FA(to get U1), I still have trouble landing them on people. I always get sweeped or double hit and my FA fails. The damage is nice, but U2 works well enough for me. I agree with pedoviejo that connecting U2 can sometimes mess people’s timing and often they panic when their life is low (at least with beginner/intermediate players).

I’m gonna leave your flaming aside and say something civil–though it is clear you are just a friend of the Guy player from several pages back.

Back on topic, if you honestly believe that you can only land 720 3 ways, you are sady mistaken and danmishima is at least partially right as you clearly don’t know how to be a grappler that lands his most damaging attack. The ways in which Hawk can land U1 are somewhat gimmicky and rarely guaranteed, but there’s also about 10 to 20 of them, easy. U2 can only land in certain situations that you can influence, but not control (heroic legacy is a good example here as he played against a chun that didn’t jump once in a whole match). The problem with both ultras is that they aren’t guaranteed and we have to outsmart our opponents to land them. “Real players” would also understand when to use U1 and when to use U2. why you gonna you use U2 against balrog/dudley/hakan/sagat etc? You’d just be limiting your own options. Why you gonna use U1 against ibuki/ryu/ken etc? Again, you’d just be limiting your own options.

also, after 9 pages of Crimson Cobra just ragging on U2 and people like me defending the use of both ultras… i think there’s enough info in this thread to close it. Anything else should just be moved to the revised matchup thread.

Clearly that makes hims totally awesome at SF. And probably qualified to be President too…you might want to check into that though, I’m not totally sure.

There’s a bunch more too if you follow the links…and please don’t tell me you jump so much because it’s online and not a tourney.

I’ve been giving raging slash a bit of love and i’m still not sold on it
el fuerte juri vega and maybe bison i would select U2 against(probably blanka too)
but other then those matches
i find U1 to be the real choice for me

i will use raging slash when i can in match up’s that i should put it to good use
but i won’t go out of my way to select it all the time
it’s just not smart

HAHAH
I feel like a celebrity with you looking me up. This was over six months ago though, so it’s quite irreleveant. Like I said before, play me now.

U2 has a nasty animation >_> … and it’s nice against people with good air games… more as a threat against damage than an actual damage tool. Only real complaint is the insane hitbox, sometimes it seems like T. Hawk smashes into the other character in mid air and still whiffs the ultra. That’s what practice is for though.

edit: off topic… but is it just me, or is double typhoon one of the most satisfying moves ever to land?

I’ve been trying both out and i actually like U2 more. It scares people from jumping too much which in turn lets you land MTs more often. That being said I agree with what most other people here said about switching ultra depending on matchup.

i’ve been using the ultra 2 more but landing ultra 1 more…usually picking ultra 2 makes people afraid to jump so i use to my advantage to pressure them more so on the ground…and right when they try to get away, oh no u don’t! it’s a very satisfying feeling to land ultra 2 but very frustrating it whiffs a lot and it can’t be comboed sadly…also i think the motion for it should be changed since i get ex MT a lot when i try to do it on reaction…if it were with all kicks then that would be a lot better in my opinion…

no i know what u mean…landing his super feels awesome…almost as awesome as a cross up condor dive or rushing people down with him…super looks more painful than ultra 1 in my opinion…

OMG Just use Ultra 1.

Ultra 2’s attack box is too small to even be viable and it does not catch moves that other characters Anti-Air ish ultra do. You cant combo into it. If someone even sees you with Ultra 2 they will just not jump in. Ultra 2 wiffs in too many situations to make.

If his Super was as good as geifs then thats different. But his EX moves are so important to get in (EX Conder Spire, EX DP) you need them against shotos =/

Ultra 2 is pretty nice in some matchups. Its not just u1 or bust like it is with someone like rog or viper.

See I don’t like it at all. Its like extend the attack box on that Ultra and its 100% viable. But at me moment I just find it almost impractical to use. I use it to practice footsies so I don’t rely on U1 as a Jail Bond
