Which stick should I keep and could it be used for another project

Ok so I started out picking up a Madcatz Street fighter V Alpha used for $20 bucks locally.

I debated modding it and after looking at the price of a lever and buttons it was going to run around $40 for new parts on focus attack.

So I seen another stick for sale locally a Street fighter X tekken TE PRO for $45. Saw the back of the box said all Sanwa Denshi parts and decided to to get it even though its for xbox360 which I don’t own.

Now should I swap the parts into the Alpha or keep them in the TE pro and get a brook converter or switch the PCB. If I do all that I want to swap the xbox button to a PS home button. I would also be interested in converting it to a hitbox.

The one thing I didn’t realize when I purchased it was the previous owner took off the default artwork. I also noticed a focus attack sticker and couldn’t make out what kind of work was done, then I realized they purchased the custom plexi glass off of focus attack. It had the bag of new black screws as well. Just looks like they never got around to doing custom artwork.
Everything else was OEM.

The downside I see from a brook converter is support, I hear it’s updated very quickly every time new firmware updates come out for consoles. My worry is just using third party accessories in general and the support on them. Your constantly dependent on the internet for new updates/patches. The 8 minute timeout is also some crap I don’t want to deal with.

It makes me think a PCB from a official licensed stick is the way to go if I were to keep the case for a mod. I know nothing about modding for a hitbox. I just taught myself how to mod the Alpha. It’s fairly easy I just had to get a understanding of how to run ground to every input which is a daisy chain.

It a depends on your preferences. Does the Fightstick Alpha provide you enough weight during gameplay, or do you think the TE will give a better use?

Unfortunately I dont think there is a way to remove the button and swap it unless you happen to find a broken TE for Ps3 and use it for parts.

The brook adapters are top notch and are always going to update their firmware, they keep coming out with new a innovative adapters and multi console boards, so you dont have to worry about them not updating.

On the flipside you could just pad hack you alpha’s board and stick it in your TE then you worry about it and all you would have to hack is signals for the home select and start button I believe.

If you want to make the TE into a hit box you can order replacement plexiglass’ to make it into a hitbox pretty easily. Focus attack has a JLF to Hitbox conversion cable, so all you do it plug that bad boy in where your sticks plug was and wire up your new buttons after you put your plexiglass’ in. You’ll probably want artwork for your TE too if you are planning on Hitbox, I think they sell that there as well.

I need more then the hitbox Plexiglas, I need the actual metal plate cut to a hitbox template.

Really you don’t even need the plexiglass at all. That is just to hold the artwork. Just need the metal plate configured to a hitbox.

I do like the weight of the Alpha. It’s nice and light and easy to be portable for traveling. I also like a six button layout.

The TE stick on my lap makes me feel like my testicles are going to go sterile. Like seriously I think a original xbox weighed 9 pounds. This madcatz stick weighs like 6-7 pounds. That’s not a ideal weight to have on my lap for long gaming sessions. I don’t understand how people like all these huge heavy sticks like the Qanba dragon, thing weighs like 11 pounds. Its better as a stationary stick then on your lap.

Some people literally just want to chainsaw off the control panel on a arcade cabinet and game with that on their lap. If I wanted that I would just build a mame machine.

What I was saying they make a plexiglass to replace your metal plate. You get 2 of them for sturdyness and artwork. Or you can leave it without artwork and see the innards.

Like I said its preference. I’d sell the the Madcatz TE and replace the buttons in the Alpha and just get a brooke converter if I were you.
