Which Ryu is the best?! EXHIBITION MATCH: Watson vs Daigo

Pretty much everything you said here is why HF. Ryu is a better overall character then ST. Ryu in AE. There is a few advantages ST. Ryu has that I love…short lk. hurricane kick, Shakunetsu-Hadouken, jumping mp, and dashing fp, however outside of that…HF. Ryu>>>>>Everything on ST. Ryu.

Better jabs, way more deadlier combos (c.lkx2xxS.FpxxHadouken ='s Pain!), faster recovery Hadouken, far more priority shoryuken, inv. start up hurricane along with more priority. However, even so, HF. Ryu vs ST. Ryu is close only due to the fact, that ST. Ryu does far more damage then HF. Ryu, however, imo, Wats should have gone with CE. Ryu instead.

Considering CE. Ryu has everything HF. Ryu does minus the aerial hurricane kick but importantly does nearly double the damage of HF. Ryu (Ce. Ryu hadouken does twice as much damage as HF. Ryu’s Hadouken) and is imo one of the Top-3 best AE characters overall in that game.

Even though this is an Exhibition Match Up, we all know it won’t go down as such, and that both players will be bringing their A-Game to the table, and that this will get some serious hype at the tournament. Obviously I’m rooting for Wats to take it to the house, and come out the victor! :nunchuck:

I think there are some more differences between CE and HF Ryu, tbh.

Maybe fireball speed? I think there are some fairly subtle differences to his normals too, and the invunerability of his hurricaines.

Frames are all the same, both have the beastly 11-39 frame Hadouken’s, while in contrast to ST. Ryu which is 12-40 (those two frames are huge).

Only difference is the aerial hurricane kick and the damage differentials. Both are very beastly in their own right, however CE. Ryu’s damage is just too high to ignore, the only other Ryu in AE that does more damage overall is WW. Ryu, and he’s absolute trash anyhow so that doesn’t really matter.

I used to give the nod to HF. Ryu here, however now have changed my mind to the Champion Edition Beast.

Go Wats!

We are on Sunday now, did you guys play this match or not?

any update on this?

I wasnt at Evo (watched live stream though), but I’m guessing this didnt happen?

Would love to be proven wrong though…

there was pretty much no time for anything but the amazing SF4. sorry to anyone who was looking forward to this as i wish i could own this RYU trophy! but yeah, sf4 and evo was incredible this year guys. you really missed out, hope you all can make it next year!

Daigo Beats Watson FFFRRREEEEEEEEE>…

A match for next year maybe?

aawwwww :frowning:

so the trophy is still in evo possesion or did daigo take it?
I could not get that from your post …

I don’t think they had time to do the match since SF4 was so time consuming. I really wanted to watch this go down, oh well.

with the way i was busting out uppercuts this evo, yeah, he wouldve owned me free most likely lol. my execution was so poor that i couldnt even pick o.sagat in cigarbobs tourney properly. figure that one out.

Or the 3 straight failed attempts at O. Dhalsim during casuals

So this never happened?

Never bet against the Old School…

Even though this didn’t happen, my money was on Watson. With Hyper Fighting Ryu, its short-short-fierce-fireball all day…

seeing as it didn’t get to be awarded, could you post pics of the trophy for those curious, e.g. me lol? i’d imagine it’s a gold statue of Ryu uppercutting into a waterfall.

What is Daigo holding in his hands??

^Good catch! That is indeed the Golden Ryu Trophy.

So here’s what happened with the “Greatest Ryu” showdown.

EVO, as we all know, is crazy as hell. Watson and Daigo were very busy so it took some careful planning to make the two come together. The time finally came after HDR, when the two seemed like they’d have the time and were free.

I talked to Kuni, and he said he’d communicate to Daigo. I texted Watson, and he said that he wasn’t able to warm up enough to go head to head. I understand that, I didn’t get to put AE up for casuals like I’d hoped.

But I had my sticks, I had AE and I had Golden Ryu. With Watson out, I hunted down John Choi and asked if he’d do a ft7 against Daigo with ST Ryu vs ST Ryu. For a second, Valle was interested but he vanished. Luckily, John couldn’t escape my stalker-ism and he agreed.

Then I went to Kuni, and asked him if instead Daigo would play John ft7 in ST. Daigo at that point had played MMs with EC/WC SFIV players, and said he’d play 2/3 for $50 and 5/7 for $100.

I was like wtf, but what the heck. How often does Daigo come to United States.

Then there was some discussion about Daigo playing Super Turbo. Choi said he hadn’t touched ST in a year. Instead, they wanted to do ft5 in SFIV. I asked Wizard who asked the Cannons, and before you knew it, a big screen exhibition *after *the SFIV finals was confirmed. There would be no cash prize, but the winner would get the Golden Ryu trophy.

As everyone saw, the finals between Wong and Daigo were the most historic ever. Amid all the erupting chaos, Choi thought that an exhibition now would be pointless. if the finals had been rape, maybe, but since they were GDLK, who needed a Choi/Daigo exhibition match. Then Choi said to just to give Daigo the trophy.

So that’s what I did. And Daigo seemed very pleased. Best part was when I saw Daigo at the Rio bar, at 3 am, he was carrying the trophy with him.

And there’s the story for you guys. This EVO was the best EVO ever! See you next year!

-Vic

Thanks for making that clear :wgrin:

See you next year!!!
