Which KOF is most like KOF XIII?

So I’m thinking about learning KOF and I would like to learn XIII however, no console version is available yet and the only way I can play it is at Arcade UFO and it’s pretty expensive. Sooooo, I was wondering which home version (or emulatable arcade version) should I practice on to prepare for XIII so I don’t have to drop $1 into the machine every 5 minutes for training mode. I have a stick for PS1/PS2 and 360/PC so those systems would be preferable. Thanks in advance for all replies :china:

Let me first mention that this topic is better placed in the KOF section of SRK.

XIII looks like a vastly improved 2002UM, but the way it is organized makes it feel like XI. You might want to check out both games if you can, as both are on PS2 (you can import, no?). However, 2002UM is coming (or is out) for the 360 as well.

It has combined elements of 2002 UM + KOFXI + KOF XII.

Play any of those you like.

Definitely, 2002UM. XI has a similar feel and cancel system but 2002UM has the BC mode and a similar combo system.

2002UM is one of the most similar imo. (November 3rd or 4th it comes out on XBLA, I recommended you get it. Great fighting system and character selection.)

Buy a 360 then purchase the points to get 2k2UM on xbla, not for preparation for KOF XIII but because it’s a great game!

Okay great, sorry about missing the subforum. I already have XI on PS2, I guess I’ll play that until 2002UM comes out on XBLA.

Obviously people trash on KoF XII, but I don’t know how you can say XIII isn’t like XII, when XIII is basically an expanded XII. There are changes to the system and XII has flaws, but objectively XII should be the one that feels most similar to XIII.

And it’s probably like $5 at gamestop now.

jump arcs, walk speed, backdash speed, and attack throw invincibility alone are enough to completely alter the feel of the game, not even going into the system. 2k2um even has strong k’, something kof12 doesnt have

not to mention a complete lack of hitstop, different throw and juggle systems and clashes (i actually liked clashes though =/)
