Which DLC character will YOU vote for?

1 Taliesin/Scythana (will be hard to decide if both make it to the finals)
3. Beowulf
4. Beatrix (I want a Ciel in this game)

Funny how Beowulf is in almost all top 4. Venus seems to be like that too. I’d guess both of them have the biggest chance because of that.

If you look at the current Skull girls roster, Filia and Parasoul seem to the most popular characters, and Painwheel and Double are the least popular. I think the distinction is obvious why this is. Despite being good characters, Painwheel and Double are really eye sores with strange play styles. Filia and Parasoul are more attractive, and also have play styles from popular marvel characters, Magneto and Captain Commando respectively. Assuming that the dev team would go the route of a more attractive characters with popular marvel play styles, I went ahead and made my own list of what a final Skullgirls roster would look like.

Unfortunately there’s no Storm characters on the Indiegogo list, and the only Wolverine character is Yu-Wan but I doubt he will have a dive kick so I left him out.

Taliesin due to puppet playstyle (Taliesin + Fortune + Robofortune = dreamteam)
Minette due to playstyle (Phoenix Wright was one of my favorite team-game characters where you had to revolve the entire team around THAT character)
Molly to relive my Tron Bonne days and seems that mech would look awesome animated
Umbrella because seems shes very important story-wise and is Labzeros original intended 10th character.

I don’t think that trying to exactly mimic all those characters is really what the concept list was ment to imply. None of these characters are as similar as you think they are. Parasoul has one assist that similar to Commando, out side of that she is not much like him. Even with Filia, outside of the airdash mixups and movement she has some import differences from Magneto. When it comes to the fan-vote characters we haven’t seen just how much of them will mirror the characters on the inspiration lists. Mike once said that sometimes they will even just include a character because of their color scheme.

Just voted Venus, Aeon, Minette and Annie haven’t come up with a clever team name yet.

I don’t think attractiveness really comes in the play with any of these. Fillia and Parasoul could be flat-chested and bony-assed, and they’d still probably be two of the most popular characters. Likewise, Painwheel could have huge boobs and ass for days, but her execution barrier will keep people away.

But how is Double unpopular? Double’s popularity was so crazy that Autumn forced Mike to patch her. She was practically in every team, and people felt that not having an anchor Double put you at a disadvantage. Her playstyle wasn’t weird at all. She had strange animations, sure, but she was a straight-forward character. The only things really weird about her were Catellite Lives, her lvl5, Cillia Slide, and her teleport dashes. She was probably easier to use than Fillia. Even post-patch, she’s still one of the most popular because of her wealth of options. At least, I still see her frequently on Salty Cupcakes and I just can’t get away from her online… she’s also in my team too… along with Parasoul and Painwheel.

Your hypothesis is flawed. Pre-patch Double was on every team because she was so cheap and Peacock was pretty popular partner for her. Filia wasn’t very popular due to her limited combo potential. After the patch Filia got lots of buffs and is seen on lots of teams now. Double although not as popular as she was before the patch she’s still seen on many teams.

Also some of your character comparisons are waaaaaay off.

  1. Sentinel? -** Big Band** - Its been stated multiple times that he would be like Q but not crap. I don’t think we’ll be seeing flight mode and rocket punches…
  2. Shuma Gorath (MvC2) - Double - Aside from tentacles there are literally no similarities.
  3. Cyclops - Stanley - WTF? This is a real head-scratcher lol! If anything I would say Rocket Raccoon or Inspector Gadget (animal with lots of guns/gadgets).
  4. Juggernaut - Panzerfaust - also Victor lightning punch mechanics
  5. L. Raptor - Painwheel - you mean Sentinel?
  6. Yoshimitsu (SFxT)? - Squigly - Waaaht?!?!

Well the list itself was mainly for speculation purposes, and not to be taken literally. I just wanted to highlight that the new characters should have play styles closer to marvel characters like Filia and Parasoul. Most of the Skullgirls cast do not play like marvel characters at all, and Filia and Parasoul themselves are stretching it, although the resemblances are there.

The fighting game community loves marvel, and Skullgirls itself would be an easier sell if it had more marvel characters in it, even if only close facsimiles. The Skullgirls roster would be more palatable if you could describe them as “this character plays like Cable!”, or “this character plays like Tron!”. Instead of “This character has timed based attacks. The attack comes out instantly, but then you have to go back in time 5 seconds later and do the attack, where then you can actually get hit out oftheattack,soitsasiftheattacknevertookplaceblahblah”

Anyway, I feel this voting for new characters is our opportunity to put more marvel back into Skullgirls. I wanted to hear if you guys agree that Skullgirls should turn into the spiritual successor of MvC2 or if it should become it’s own strange looking animal. Skullgirls has enough of a fanbase to have paid for new dlc like it did. I think they have a rough idea of what they want and right now skullgirls is going to ride a long hype train with evo, new dlc ever 3 months or so and just other players being advertizement.

Making it like mvc seems self limiting when I show thi game to people I can’t help but surprise them with double or show them cool stuff

Painwheel is Sent and Peacock is Cable.

I think if anything, Double is like Strider, cause she kinda has an Ouroboros loop with teleports

1- No it doesn’t. Thou art not and thou speaketh not in the name of the FGC. You love mahvel, I loathe it. It’s just that the most ppl around you like it enough that gives you that impression.

2- If you start selling SG as some kind of mahvel, mahvel players will play it for a while, but then they’ll just go back to mahvel, because SG is NOT mahvel. This will happen with any other game as well. Original is always best and it’s best to like SG for SG, regardless of what it reminds you of. Also, SG already live’s in mahvel’s shadow enough, no need to drink further from that fountain.

I voted for Marie, Beatrix, Venus, and Isaac.

I really want to see one more zoner in the game for diversity, but I’m cool with any of the characters that have interesting gameplay mechanics. Quite a few killers going under the radar IMO. Feng and Molly in particular are two characters who I didn’t care much about until I saw their concept videos, now I think they’re pretty neat. Regina is another character who has no chance of winning, but would make a good addition. Frametraps-R-Us.

Placing a folding chair on the ground and performing moves off of it? The Skullgirls mantra: Why hasn’t anyone thought of this before? Also, he would handily fill the role of “most normal-looking male character.”

Taliesin
His design and motif appeal to me. (In 2006, I mentally sketched on the concept of a puppet master character with two “stances”, inspired by the Sonata Arctica song “The Boy Who Wanted to Be a Real Puppet.”) As my execution is below average, I hope his playstyle will be closer to Devo or Relius’ (control one character at a time) than Eddie, Lieselotte and Carl’s (control both at once).

I don’t think making Skullgirls a straight marvel clone is the answer. Skullgirls is a already a good game with a growing cult following.

What really bummed me out is out of the DLC character list not one of them has Guile influences. A little odd considering how iconic he is, I mean… I guess there’s Parasoul, but people don’t really turtle with her.

To be honest, Zone-Tan looks pretty cool I’d vote for her if it was real.

Anyway, I voted for: Minette, Eliza, Beowulf and Aeon

I don’t really get why people are so hyped for Issac. Okay, he has an interesting concept, from what they’ve shown so far it seems to be a poor mechanic (Basically it’s a way to perform moves that can be both interrupted and avoided if you turn the tables on him before the timer counts down) Aeon seems like a more interesting choice because she has more control of time than Issac.

I dislike Panzerfaust because he just looks to bulky to be of interest to me.

Anyway, I specifically avoided voting for them because I’m almost positive they’ll make it to the second round. I wouldn’t hate to see them, but I feel like there would be more exciting characters to add (Like Minette, seriously who doesn’t want to beat up somebody by accident?)
