Which chars is either the most basic/complex

by basic I mean by ease of use, little to no adv tech to speak of or little thought in playing with

and which is the most complex…takes more time in practice

Easier to use should be Hulk without a doubt.

The most complex is a tough decision, but I’d say Modok or Rocket Raccoon played to its highest level.

Modok is incredibly complex and it’s all about precision, no room for mistakes.
Rocket Raccoon has plenty of technology but playing with him is really awkward.

Most basic… Hulk… Most complex… Shuma, she hulk strider…

Most basic is Hulk, Nemesis, Sentinel as far as getting decent damage for little effort. Others that CAN be played with some effectiveness and not too much effort are Wesker, Ammy, Vergil and Doom (once his movement is established).

Complex has to go to Rocket Raccoon, MODOK, Jill, Shuma, and C Viper. To play them with any success you need some practice.

I wouldn’t recommend Doom. While his corner loop is easy, his midscreen combos do take some practice, and his movement is pretty unintuitive. Of course if you’re willing to play at such a basic level that you would accept launch into 2 air M’s straight into super as your midscreen BnB, then feel free to footdive away. There are definitely still chars who can get more reward for even less effort though. Other easy characters include Nova (neutral game: box dash H into slide until it works, launch MMH nova force super does almost 600k no execution required), Cap (easiest char in the game imo, just mash shield slash until it hits, then mosey on over for your easy confirm into an ABC combo that does like 800k), Taskmaster (spam arrows until they get close then mash shield skills), Wolverine (spam dive kick until it works), anchor Hawkeye (mash triple arrow, slide if they get close, gimlet if you hear a button, profit), and anchor Strider (turn on dem orbs and mash dat jab).

Hulk, Wolverine, and Cap don’t really take much thought. Iron Man and Viper for most complex IMO.

I’m not sure when Iron Man became super hard to play. His movement is a little weird, but he’s not complex by any means, even compared to other characters.

Hullk most basic, Strider, Shuma, Strange, MODOK Most complex. RR is a complex character as well, but not as much as the others.

His combos are very difficult and he has some of the hardest hit confirms in the game.

It might be the amount of time I have put into Modok; but I feel like RR is much harder than him.

Wright is the most complex character in the game, not because you have to hit a lot of buttons or get a lot of rote muscle memory to use him but because you have to be intimately familiar with the properties of his moves, his spacing, his priority, etc. to play him and get /any/ results.

Most brainless is actually possibly Nemesis - comparable brainlessness to Hulk, but fewer people know the matchup.

Strange as one of the most complex, definitely.

  • no low-hitting cr.L. not only can’t you just mash cr.L unlike a lot of characters, you have to be sure your blockstrings are gonna be 100% safe because Strange’s EVERYTHING isn’t safe. he has his high-low mixups, though they’re not nearly as effective and evident without a low cr.L.
  • high execution required for his ToDs (the Faltine loop) and best XF loops.
  • requires good spacing and knowledge of proper zoning techniques. this includes the properties of all of his projectiles and when to use them.
  • player needs to find ways to incorporate his tools for mixups
  • must be accompanied by specific assist types (projectiles that leave opponent stationary, vertical assists, GTFO, etc). these characters are usually complex themselves.
  • player needs to be on point with Strange’s Vishanti punishes. can’t just throw the move out there.

I agree with you.

I think it’s funny that you can replace “Strange” with “MODOK” in most of those.

I wish I had the patience for MODOK. Damn my laziness.

Agreed. Good luck comboing from throws consistently with Iron Man. Guy is difficult as fuck to maximize damage with.

Easiest character most certainly goes to Sentinel.

Is Jill really considered difficult to use? I just think her feral stance cancels are the only difficult about her at first, and then they become much easier with practice.

Chun Li is one of the most complex and absolute least rewarding characters in the game

Iron Man and Strange are the toughest characters that I’ve tried in this game, I’m sure MODOK ranks up there too. Hit confirming and getting used to aerial movement with Iron Man is a nightmare.

Iron Man’s throws actually aren’t the hard part of his confirms imo. A simple ADDF into smart bomb L into cr.M xx launcher allows me to convert basically any airthrow below superjump height. Maybe the combo where you smart bomb in the air then ADF does more damage (I don’t know if it actually does or not), but if you’re having trouble with it he does have a much easier confirm. For me the hard part is converting long range cr.M into KK combo, I can’t do that shit consistently at all.

Good characters are easier to play than bad characters because they have better options and tools. Though a character may be straightforward executing their gameplan can prove to be quite a chore against characters with oppressive tools. With than in mind playing Viper effectively once you’ve put in the time to learn her should prove to be easier than playing Hulk effectively. Hulk’s 5C and mix-ups only get you so far. Eventually you’ll have to rely on really dirty ambiguous stuff and once that happens the game becomes much easier to play and “simple” characters (i.e.), characters that lack long term depth fall off and become harder to play VS top end characters. So put in some lab time and learn someone that will trivialize anything your opponent will do thus making the game “easy”.
