Most characters have just a single name, several have ‘fake’ names given to them in the live action movie. but which are real and which are fake?
I’d like to think Ryu Hoshi is Ryu’s full name. It doesn’t sound weird or contradicts anything else.
Didn’t you mention in my topic that Capcom told Udon to make Charlie’s last name Nash, TAS? If it’s coming from the source, why isn’t it official?
Then why’d you even make this topic if you’d “like to think” this persons name is this or this, ie if you’re just going to thin there names are this or that, why bother finding out the official ones?
And Hoshi was the last name they gave Ryu in the live action SF Movie, since they felt every character needed a last name. Its not his official last name, he has no official last name.
Yes it does sound weird, since he’s always been known as just “Ryu” (Ree-You)
It contradicts Capcom’s official Ryu bio and the SF Canon.
No, just because Capcom told UDON to make Charlie’s last name Nash dosnt mean its part of Capcom’s canon. You see each series has its own canon…
Street Fighter (Final Fight, and Rival Schools)
Street Fighter EX
Marvel Vs Capcom
Capcom Vs SNK
SNK Vs Capcom
UDON’s Street Fighter
All of those diffrient series have their own specific canon (official storyline) ie UDON’s SF has its own canon compared to Capcom’s SF, and they are obviously diffrient.
Regarding Cammy’s last name -
When Studio Udon asked Capcom if Cammy had a last name they said no. In all of the official All About Capcom books Cammy is not given a last name. Idealy being a clone she wouldn’t have a last name. However there are lots of sources that say she has a last name, none of them official. I’m inclined to believe that the last name ‘White’ came from the SF2 Animated Movie and since that movie got so many things right people ran with it. I don’t think she has a last name myself, doesn’t make sense. Or at the very least it is a last name that was tacked on by MI-6, her parents where not Mr. and Ms. White.
EDIT: Ryu being found by Gouken wouldn’t have a last name. I doubt Gouken went to the proper adoption legal channels otherwise they would of taken the baby away from him. No government is going to let an old Martial arts master raise a kid.
Ken has a last name because when Hasbro made those terrible G.I.Joe-esque SF toys they had a conflict with Mattel who makes Barbie’s Ken. So Capcom gave him the name Masters to differentiate the two. It worked out very well now that we have the ‘Masters Foundation’ as a company. I wonder what it would have been called if Ken never got a last name. ‘Flaming Dragon Punch Incorporated’ I bet.
I’m inclined to agree with sano about Cammy. I doubt White is her offical last name. Anyone else care to confirm?
To my knowledge, Cammy’s never had an official last name. I even skimmed through her 2.5 some pages backstory (which I’ll share in the future of course) from the SSF2 Gamest pre-mook to see if “White” is anywhere, didn’t see it. If anyone can speak otherwise with proof, I’m all ears.
Saiki stated it was White and I’ve seen Daisu no Chris adamantly say she was referred to as White in official sources in old threads, but I find it doesn’t make much sense given that Cammy’s a clone, myself. I’ve yet to hear of a source in specific which refers to it as White, and I’ve seen Udon state at least once that it wasn’t…
I thought Tiamat’s guide had her last name listed as “White” thats the only reason I put it up there, but I’ll edit it.
If Cammy is a clone, how did she end of up with the name “Cammy” in the first place? What significance does it have? Is that the name Rose gave to her, or was her official name already Cammy in Capcom’s canon when she was cloned?
Interesting, I wonder which ones Dash no Chris was referring to; I wonder also if he has anything saying Retsu & Gouken are officially friends.
Yeah, I still wonder what old official sources say her name was White as it doesn’t show up in the All About Books or in any of the older official books Vasili10 has tracked down. It does show up in lots of unnoficial stuff, kind of strange. I wonder if it was an under the table retcon or something since Capcom is now saying she doesn’t have a last name and at one point they said she did (told the SF2 Animated Movie people it was thus maybe?) but it was never written down in an official source for some reason(or a real old source Vasili10 has yet to come across.) Hmmm. Even in the Sakura Ganbaru! Manga Sakura gave Killer Bee the name ‘Cammy’ after one of her cats, but never a last name. And as you know in the comic, Rose gives her the name Cammy, never a last name.
I suppose it’s not enough to take her name out of the plot guide or anything until we can nail down someone to clear up the ‘White’ business since it shows up in lots of sources while Ryu Hoshi, Chun-Li Zang, Barlog Fabio De Cerna or whatever do not. Though I think at least after her clone retcon the last name is null and void myself.
In the official storyline Balrog(ninja) left Cammy on MI-6’s doorstep. She had no memory, even of her real name Killer Bee, so I guess they had to call her something and gave her the name Cammy. Capcom doesn’t say who gave her the name Cammy. It wouldn’t be Sakura or Rose like the manga/comic, doesn’t make sense. Rose was… let’s say incapacitated at this point and Killer Bee never paled around with Sakura in the canon.
Well, Bison calls Cammy ‘Cammy’ in SFA3, and Juli and Vega’s SFA3 prologues specifically say “Find the soldier named Cammy”, so I assume she was given that name by Shadaloo in the first place, myself. Typical disclaimer that this is the English translated version of SFA3, but I’m pretty sure the Japanese version isn’t very different from that.
I imagine “Cammy” was Bison’s name for her. Shadoloo probaly just refered to her as a number.
