Where's the cheese

Thats somethin…throughout all odds you have a father who teaches you to keep on fighting no matter what and take risks that have a chance of success…a book should be written…this makes the perfect inspirational story for fighting game players and others as well…and im sure thisll inspire all the newcomers to not just pick up a game and run with it but strive to be come the best at it…

i wish the best of luck to you, John it had to be the greatest thing in the world for you to see your father get better as well as win TWO tournaments at Evo defeating some of the best players in the world…you are the champion of america  you deserve it and basically worked hard for it thanks to your father

congrats on the win and hope the money from Evo helps you and your families needs

Choi: believe it or not, your footsy game is what inspired me to work on mine… and it paid off tremendously. your style of gaming is very influential.

What an inspirational post. Glad you were able to rep nor cal to the fullest. but even more important is the condition of your father, which I hope improves soon. Take care dude.

I’ll second that.

Congrats John. You deserve it!!

This is an awesome story, something that should be shared in the DVDs when they’re released. It must’ve been a lot to go through and I admire the way you went about it.

Congratulations and my prayers are with you and your father.

This was a proper heart touching story, I believe its true when you got emotional strength from an experience anything can happen.

Yesterday I was watching the Olympics for “Heavy Weight Lifting” games, This German guy lifted way more weight then his body?s limit but successfully did it at like 258kg and won the gold.

But truth down was his wife died following year in car crash and was his rock, so this competition he vowed to get GOLD for her. Which he achieved through great determination

True champion, just like John.

Wish you & your family all the best.

Best of wishes from Spain

GG to both of you!
Keep struggling ,Best wishes from france

Choi seem’s really Cool…

I wish I knew my dad.

Mr. Choi is Strong. He should pull threw.

If Choi can win CVS2 with C groove there is hope for us all.

Mr. Choi is going to beat Cancer like his son beat BAS!

I wish I could have been at Evo to see John pwn ST and CvS2. I saw him stomp at the tourney in Danville this year, so that was cool. Its cool to see people that are pillars in the community doing what they do in real life. Good job @ Evo John Choi!
Continue the legacy of your amazing dad.

Uhh, damn I saw this thread a little late.

Congrats John for placing in two separate games, much love to your pops man. My prayers are with your family.

If you ever need some crack to keep your spirits high, lemme know.

my best wishes to choi’s dad. my whole family has the “cancer gene” so i can appreciate watching people you know get consumed by a bitch of an illness.

congrats for your evo performance as well

If there where to be a “Bang the machine 2” it should be about Choi’s win this year. You are our champion, both in and out of the street fighter scene.

I have to say…I was just bored and browsing through srk and I came across this…this is the most inspiring post I ever saw on srk.

Guessing by your last name, I’m assuming that you’re korean…same here, so I can relate to very small bits and pieces just from the structure of the korean culture, beliefs, and values. One thing is for sure; your dad deserves to live the best life that could ever exist and I hope he prevails over every single adversity pertaining to his recovery from the devil known as cancer. There is always hope. Even though I don’t know you, I wish the best for you and your family and you have my greatest respect.

:china:

It’s been said many times before, but that was incredibly touching anecdote Choi. Thank you for sharing that with us man, mad respect.

hey Choi though I never met you personally, I have to say wow man you’re a true champion. I know it’s not easy to open up to complete strangers about your life but hey at least it’s a good way to vent your pent up stress/emotions. I’ve always admired and respected your play style even though you weren’t always champ but you kept it old school and stuck to what works with C-groove. You and JWong were the reason I donated to send the team to SBO this year and if you do another donation for the community I’d gladly help out. you didn’t give into the sho sho sho sho sho sho sho sho sho sho sho sho sho sakura antics  you seem like a really cool person, good luck with getting that MBA and best wishes to your dad.
