I love Balrog in Super Turbo, but does anyone use him effectively in Alpha 3? Or is he strictly a “middle of the road” type fighter? Is any particular -ISM more effective for him than the rest? Seems like Balrog might actually be a decent X-ISM character.

He’s mid-tier I think, but I remember hearing that Apoc rolled in high-level play using Balrog.
You gotta play him like a bruiser though. The only time I see people do well with him is when they just mass rushdown.
I was wondering, his arial counter VCs aren’t very useful are they? I mean, since you’re crouching then activating, they have a chance to flip out, right?
Well, in general, it’s relatively risky trying to VC off a counter hit, but it has to be an air-air counter hit, or they can flip, which is why most people prefer to conserve their meter for actual ground/AA VC’s instead. If you do it right though, they shouldn’t be able to flip.
There’s really no reason to use 'Rog in V over A or X in the long run. If he had his headbutt, maybe that’d be another story.

Even against Dhalsim, so Balrog is good. But I tell you, that he isn’t as good as the console Balrog. Console Balrog has the headbutt and can do corner VC’s with it. And he has different normals. Just better.
other than the headbutt, console rog is worse imo. the hardly any of the extra normals are in anyway useful. in fact they’re so bad you can’t even charge TAP and fight with the remaining buttons, particularly the kick ones.
Apoc beat Tokido,Ino and I think he beat Chikyuu all in alpha 3 with a-ism rog. He also beasted on Bas for a round, which is crazy because Bas made V akuma. Console rog sucks, he is slower on startup of moves and he has insanely less priority. Apoc rapes cuz arcade rog has good priority, I know cuz has rog has beasted me a few times. His A-ism Chun is damn good too.
CPS2 Balrog has the headbutt too, its just reversal only for some bizarre reason
Which means it’s useless for VC’s. I’m well aware that it’s ‘technically’ there.
Those are old old videos though. Long before VC’s started getting really advanced.

I’ve fought a decent A-'Rog before. He seems too susceptible to jump-ins.
And everytime you dash punch at someone, you’re risking being VC’ed.
Those matches Apoc fought againt Chikyuu and them are ooold. Like way before everybody had a CC infinite and people started finding 5 billion different VC set-ups and CC combos.
