I was referring to the comment about people looking for Ken to do c.mk xx Hadou.
They’re -10 on block. He has NO business using that string in this game. They’re good in footsies outside sweep range where they can’t be punished, yes.
Max range cr.mk into fireball is safe. In block strings it’s easy to space it. I’d imagine cancelling into lp fireball grand better frame advantage too
I just use mp FB and c.mp FB now. I mostly use c.mk as a poke. I would like a buff to it honestly, could use a bit more active frames for such a limited tool. But yeah when you are spaced far away I haven’t gotten punish for its, I think only chun super or something is fast enough and can close distance to punish.
Hopefully Ken and Ryu aren’t mid either. I’m always of the opinion that shotos are universally the easiest to game plan against since they are fundamental characters. I think they should always be in the upper part of tiers.
Really enjoying both of them so far. I feel like neither needs hardly any tweaks. For Ken, i would just like an easier time run confirming. I pretty much only want to run when I hit someone, rarely on block. Wish it was easier way to distinguish. Crush counter is a little easier since there’s a flash but it’s still tight. But running on a hit c.mp or HK is pretty good pressure too IMO. Not sure if it’s even safe or not but I’ve bad more success with it versus canceling normals on block.
There is an OS for that but the only issue with it is the run won’t come out if you get a normal hit with the fierce or roundhouse so you still have to react for that.
As stated above, you can option select your crush counter buttons with run cancelling. Literally just delay your v-skill input by half a second, you have added hit freeze when you land a CC so the game “freezes” for around half a second longer than it would on a regular hit/block so delaying your v-skill will have it only cancel when a crush counter forces the game to freeze for slightly longer than usual.
It’s super intuitive to get the timing down, just random guard and train your timing, should take say…10 minutes? It’s slightly different timing for both st.hk and st.hp but once you have the muscle memory down it’s a walk in the park.
For St.Fierce online, it’s probably more efficient to OS St.Fierce xx V-Skill on crush counter (hit-confirming can backfire when rollback is bad, this is no good).
Offline, it’s definitely possible and not too troublesome to hit-confirm St.Fierce xx V-Skill, but it might be hard to rely on this during tense moments.
St.Roundhouse in general, eh… while it’s good to hit-confirm, just keep an eye out that it actually shows any sign of Crush Counter, and not just a hit. You are -1 on hit (no Crush Counter) of St.Roundhouse xx V-Skill. Maybe, for now, specific players might be unfamiliar about this so it is okay to still try and pressure the opponent on follow-up… but in the long run, it’s not effective. At best, you could probably have DP xx V-Trigger as an option to make the follow-up still a threat to deal with.
It’s just because the button itself has stubby range and can get beaten out by a fair amount of things with no viable way to frame trap into it, Ken’s crush counter ability is the best in the game but st.hp isn’t too great. St.hk is my favourite CC button of Ken’s.
I fucking love st.hp CC combos though, they’re really fun to land when you get your OS down.
s.HK is -1 on hit but when it’s well spaced you can push buttons after fine to mess with people, because most of their stuff won’t reach you. The exception is sweep, but even that is MU dependent and sweep is real risky.
I like how the 4 cool guys who disliked my post have yet to actually list all the characters that Ken is supposedly better than. “Bottom 5” sounds bad, but it’s all relative. There aren’t too many characters in the game that are worse than Ken, IMHO. EventHubs even agrees (for what that’s worth). He’s 10th-11th MINIMUM, IMHO. No one who’s halfway decent and with half a brain thinks that these characters are worse than Ken, at least not at THIS STAGE in the game:
Bison
Chun
Nash
Necalli (probably most debatable though)
Dhalsim
Karin
Cammy
Vega
So it’s you know, simple math. Don’t dislike me, dislike the math/other characters that are better. You could probably even throw Birdie in there to be honest. And some people (even Snake Eyez himself) are saying 'Gief is top 3-5. Just because these characters are better than Ken doesn’t mean Ken is “bad”.
