Where did all the feminist/hipsters come from?

What makes you think they’ve been left behind? Because the fair-weather cartoon version gets more airtime?

Romance novels are the middle aged, menopausal female equivalent of harem anime.

What I want to know is why is it that whenever comic book makes the transition into a tv show it ends up looking like this?

Whats up with that shit, sexism?

Where is the public outcry of men being forced to show their nipples just for a fucking promo?

Lets reverse that situation and put female characters in that spot and see what happens…

Pretty sure boobs would be in there.

I would like to see this happen, actually. Let’s get on that.

Sorry pal, women are only allowed to degraded themselves if its on THEIR terms because it’s THEIR body and they can do whateva they want!!!

I’d dig it.

Don’t tell Mancub that, though. It might shatter his little mindscape.

You guys want to see women expose themselves on tv for some gross nerd show?

Obvious basement dwelling virgins.

Oh angelpalm, if only I could implant your essence where my left testicle used to be, I’d be whole again.

Sounds like a plan to me.

you set off my google alert for tv/gross/basement/virgin

anyway, i miss ur forum-rpg shenanigans angelpalm

cant we all just forget this thread happened and go back to fun bs like that?

Fucking male oppressors and their rapist tendencies.

ikr? but srsly

remember the good times?

Incidentally, I am in favor of any movement that aims to make backwards-hat-wearing college bro’s feel bad about themselves.

I would probably support Hitler if he went after the frat boys.

Welp…damn…

Answer is pretty simple. Those comics have huge male fanbases, but most women don’t care bout em. So that shirtless eye candy is to draw in female viewers.

But… that’s exploiting a man’s body! That’s sexist! I demand action! HOW DARE THEY.

By objectifying men

Shit is boss.

Nah, it’s a power fantasy. It’s meant to excite the masculine gaze through fantasies of association rather than possession.

And most anti-feminist rhetoric in this thread (they aren’t interested in equality for all, poor black kids in other countries being oppressed to make chocolate [which, what?]) are casting feminism as a a charicature of its first-wave. That was white women with money demanding the vote in, like, the 50s and 60s. You might also complain about how Western democracy in the US is exculsionary today b/c only white men with land could vote when it was instituted.

Check out third-wave feminism and post-humanism if you’re actually interested in exploring the contemporary ideas that the those first sparks of feminist activism have contributed to.

Or, you know, don’t. I understand this isn’t stuff that a lot of you are interested in, but knowing what the words you use actually mean–including their ongoing, mutable context and use in the field that actually uses them (and not just mass culture blogosphere-type definitions)–is a strong step towards knowing what you’re arguing about. I use a graph to illustrate this prinicipal to students:

I don’t want to sound dismissive or mean, but I simply don’t have any idea how to respond to rhetoric that is so proudly ignorant about the actual critical conversations surrounding a given topic.

The CW [formerly WB] does this for almost any action oriented show if I recall. Not just those comic book oriented ones. Ofcourse, most of the time they’re dog shit, but that’s a different story
