The Emerald Spears (like Ruby Spears, get it LOL) story wrapped in Mega Man today. I really enjoyed this one even if the artwork was hit or miss at times. Quake Woman is a nice addition. Now bring on Proto Man!
I just got the book Friday and pretty much agree with everything you said. It’s a really good book!
With regards to X-Men Children of the Atom and MSH, I don’t think there was a lot of original artwork in the first place. Capcom did two pieces for cover art purposes and then they straight up lifted drawings and images from Marvel comic books for their in-game character portraits. A lot of the endings in MSH they took existing Marvel comic book artwork and tweaked some of the images.
For what it’s worth all of the above images are available in All About Capcom though, but this book doesn’t really feature much in the way of endings anyway. It’s nice that you get all of the images from the US ending of MvC2 and the Japanese version. Previously in AAC they only showed the Japanese images.
For what it’s worth in Jean Grey’s bio she is called Jean Grey-Summers. That’s the first time I’ve seen that, everywhere else she is just called Jean Grey. I honestly could not tell if Jean Grey in UMvC3 was married to Scott / Cyclops or not. Jean’s currently dead in Marvel comics. If she ever does come back to life (not looking like that’s happening any time soon) I can almost bet they’ll divorce them due to ‘death do us part’ and all soap opera style.
Of course the whole marriage issue in UMvC3 is confusing anyway. Chris Baker of Marvel confirmed that Spider-Man is still married to MJ in the game, yet there is no in game evidence of this except for one quote where Spidey says he’s late and MJ will kill him. Storm is OBVIOUSLY married to Black Panther but in hind sight not much point to that since Marvel just divorced them in ONE PANEL. Hawkeye is still married to Mockingbird in the game, no idea why since they also got a ‘death do us part’ divorce and in the cartoons and movies Hawkeye is single nowadays anyway.
I don’t know, strange strange Capcom, and I guess since Marvel had more influence this time strange strange Marvel. At least it’s not as strange as putting Shuma-Gorath in so many games. :looney:
Sorry about going a little OT lol! Overall it’s a great book. It doesn’t answer a lot of questions like why the hell did they decide to use Shuma-Gorath and it doesn’t point out that Rubyheart, Sonson and Amingo were originally intended for a Darkstalkers sequel. Norimaro and Abyss are mentioned but no bios for either, so we still don’t know much of anything about Abyss. I’m not even sure if there is any original artwork available for X-Men Mutant Acopalypse and the MSH side scroller but it would’ve been nice if some of it was included, at least sprite artwork if any of it still exists. The Punisher artwork shows up in at least two older Capcom of Japan artbooks so not that hard to track down.
Still it’s really nice and there are quite a few pieces I have never seen before. Like CHOWZ said, I’d definitely like more and wished it had some of the detail featured in previous Capcom Official Complete Works book. Even so, for artwork viewing purposes it’s a must-have.
Yeah, I really need to get that All About Capcom book, My cousin had it, and I think that’s the only one i’m missing. I was hoping udon would get to rerelease some of these old books, such as CAPCOM DESIGNS, but that might be a little outdated by now. I just always wanted to see those interviews and notes finally translated! Also, my japanese version is falling apart. I just have this gut feeling (similar to the MVC book) that they’re going to be making a CAPCOM DESIGNS 2 for this generation somewhere down the line.
Been waiting on this one. I keep flipping through the japanese version at j-town stores, but that 80 dollar pricetag is just way too much for a book. 25 seems like a great deal.
Also, speaking of Capcom Designs. I found this pic of 80’s cartoons recently.
I flipped though the Japanese SFxT book in store too, but holding out for Udon’s English version. My favorite part is the bad box art Mega Man design sketches. For some reason it tickles me that anyone put that much thought into that design.
Street Fighter x Tekken Artworks SC hits comic book stores next week!
Mentioned in the Marvel thread and it’s probably been on SRK’s Home Page by now but just in case anyone hasn’t seen this yet. Ron Lim did this awesome drawing for Marvel vs. Capcom Origins, for a kind of ‘what if the Marvel and Capcom universes were always merged together’ image. Really cool!
Like I always say, I only go by comic book store dates (accurate, when it says the comic book store will have it a week in advance it’s a slam dunk) and not Amazon / Barnes & Noble book store dates (all kinds of messed up). As usual my apologies to those people who don’t live near comic book stores but I wish they had an accurate system, it’s hit or miss sometimes and their dates are not always the same as comic book store dates. They receive stuff at different times for some reason.
Busy ATM, but check the weekly release date 9/19/12 and scroll down to art books. It should be there. It should also turn up in a search but just in case. If you need help or a link let me know.
EDIT: Lol never mind I think I understand what you meant. Previews is another case altogether! The book is in comic book stores right now and that’s all I can confirm. Everyone else get your act together!
That book’s been coming for a loooong time. You won’t hear jack from me until a week prior like always.
That Mega Man Robot Master Field Guide isn’t out either like that chart says. Not in comic book stores at least. I vaguely remember Udon talking about why it was so late a few months back so it’s possible that it’s not out anywhere.
