SF4 needs to play more like the older SF games imo…but maybe thats just me!
I agree
I think that the new KOF XI is pretty cool.
I was just gonna say that at our tilt in Fairfield we have cvs2, mvc2, 3s, t5.1, kof XI, and ggxx and the biggest thing there that is keeping the arcade pretty much up and running is initial D ver. 3.
the next big thing I would say will probably be sf4.
why do you guys think that the kof series hasnt really been changed to anything new as far as how the games look. accept of course for kof maximum Impact but we all know where that game went.
That’s seems to be the U.S. fighting game communities favorite thing to do is bitch about " why this and that isn’t done" in fighting games while it’s right under their fucking noses…
I lost track of all the posts here that would bring up something that should be put into fighting games and 99.99999% of the time I’m thinking “what the fuck, that’s in VF4:EVO.I thought these guys were hardcore about fighting games and they don’t know it exist?!”…
Oh yeah…if online fighting games are smooth even 85-90% of the time I think that would boost intrest as well. Talk shit all you want but DOA2U on Live was sick. That should be that standard for all companies taking or making fighinting games online…too bad for the fans SNK and Capcom don’t give a shit…
For 2d games…like someone said it would take the act of GOD to do it. There is a cycle of “developer won’t make X game because the consumer might not buy it, and the consumer won’t be X game because it doesn’t do anything new” that cycle in the 2d circle will NEVER be broke.
Whatever 3D fighter first brings about decent gameplay with flashy special attacks like specials and supers and has a huge advertising budget.
VF5, Guilty Gear XX/ and KOFXI are the future. Capcom have personally had it by not anouncing development of SF4.
No one seriously gives a shit about DOA. Its only getting attention because its the only 3D game that you can play online.
amen!! :wgrin:
Honestly I don’t think there will ever be another SF2 ie a game where non-fg players play it as much as the hardcore. Not that I think the potential isn’t there, but it’s something so hard to do that I don’t think any company will try or be successful in doing so…it’ll be an either/or thing.
SF2 was popular with both crowds because it was the only game at the time (let’s not get into technicalities of hardcore SF1 or Karate Champ players). We all know SF2 was the first turely popular and significant 1v1 fighting game. Casual players played because it was a new and exciting thing, and the hardcore played for the same reason, and because it was the most advanced (it was the only!). As fighting games evolved, the serious players advanced with the new games, while the fad for casual players wore thin.
The closest thing to that nowadays is SSBM, and if you’re not willing to play that, you aren’t going to be willing to play ‘the next big thing’ [that is popular with non-fg players].
i havent read through this so dont know if its mentiond
namco were talking about a soul calibre mmorpg, wont that change the way we play? like choosing who to fight or get rude to??
who cares about 2d fighting games you know why? i predict something in the future that will allow you to make ur own, trade em online etc anythings possible, with all the people years ago making those fake 2d fighters with crap technology.
since namco has mentioned a mmorpg soul calibre (which i predicted 2 years ago) thats the next big thing
Maybe I should play Smash more but what the fuck is with that game. I didn’t even think it was that fun…shrugs
I hate smash because there is a jump button. And a block button.
as far as street fighter goes there will be no sf4. capcom could care less about there fans. Its all about them doller signs. if by chance we do se a sf4 its gonna be in 3d and will be no better than the sfx series.
I dont see any “next big thing in fighting games” coming.
we all know about mostly everything coming are way and it isn’t very incredible.
the fighting game sceen is just about dead right now in the gaming public eyes.
Well put, great post
If the Revolution’s online shit goes well, then Smash will be HUGE in the U.S. compared to everything else. It’s going to be insane. I can’t wait.
…but I’ll probably still prefer VF5.
Fill the cover with hot chicks and make the gameplay GOOD, and 2D fighters might sell again. I dunno, just something that popped out of my head.
Capcom is done with fighters. They’ve moved on with life, and you people don’t realize that. Namco is still strong, but their games are losing intererst faster than ever (people already think SC3 is done for). SNK is garbage in America, so they’re out of the equation. Sammy doesn’t advertize, out. Team Ninja has everything right except the gameplay, but that might change with DOA4. Midway is a disgrace to fighting games, and they are probably the only future fighters have left. That is, unless Smash becomes the biggest thing out there.
it also depends on what you call big??? The Us’s definition of big, the world, or the rest of the world?? By that I mean to here most people are Capcom fans, so they miss out on things like SNK games as a whole, I mean shit I know people who FIRST LEARNED ABOUT SNK THROUGH CAPCOM VS. SNK…thats sad because that crossover never wouldve happened if SNK was not at least rivaling Capcom in the fighting game department.
SNK is bigger overseas and so most people here will never hear of it…but overseas they know quite a bit about SNk games and the next big thing is practically the next SNK game…KOF XI, SSTenka, NGBC, those were some big things there…as well as other games.
Other than that Tekken 5 Dark Resurrection can be the next big thing and Soul Cal III-60 should they take time to eliminate VC bugs and other things.
To be honest, the only possible thing I could see as the next big thing in terms of broad appeal (as in enough to get both casual and hardcore players to care) would be a focus on 3D fighters with 2D play mechanics…but even then, I have my doubts, especially considering how few of said games that went this route were actually worth playing.
I think that’s because a lot of the people who bought Virtua Fighter 4 were never in it for that reason to begin with. A lot of casual gamers that I know bought VF4:Evo, for example, when they saw that it got incredible reviews. They played it for a couple of days, realized that button mashing was getting them beat down by the AI on an easy setting, and then left the game sit on a shelf to collect dust while they played some flavor of the month garbage.
fighting games seem to be getting easier an easier to play … look at smash bros … easy as shit commands… thats why its #1 in usa
