I’ve always wondered waht “Put on blast”, meant. I always picture a car A/C on full blast and making people feel real cold. “Stay Free” was okay as long as it’s used in moderation. Unfortunately, for an example if we had Daigo vs Mike Ross in SSF4 and Ross gets edged out in the set, we’d see tons of “Stay Free Mike Ross” posts when Ross is clearly a good player. It’s a little annoying because the people yelling the shit can’t play or use the old “I don’t even play this game” excuse. Someone is not free in a game if it comes down to the wire and they barely lose.

people watch alot more streams now, they hear people from everywhere saying all kinds of different slang and everyone in the community starts saying the same shit. it’s like when you move to a certain area and pickup the dialect.

I dont see what the problem with “salty” is. I’'ve only been playing fighting games for a little while now but when I first started, I thought it was a great word to describe the feeling that people get after taking a loss.
Imagine if you ate a handful of salt. It would taste extremely bitter and you’d probably be pissed off and spitting everywhere. I think that’s pretty good imagery. Saying “That guy is salty” sounds a lot better than “That guy is bitter and angry.”
I think nitpicking about the other terms that pop out of the FGC and more specifically the EC is kinda ridiculous too. Lots of subcultures have their own slang. I think the real problem, and where I think it irks me a little too, is when people are just spitting off all these catch phrases in order to try really hard to fit in. People like that stick out like a sore thumb. I’m not a sociologist or anything so I can’t really tell you about the intricacies of that kind of stuff. All I’m saying is that the problem is less with the words and more with how (or perhaps which) people try to use them.
I’ve heard the word “salty” since 2003 in the Chicago area, thus its use started way before SF4.
