When did people start judging games on graphics?

with the invention of video games

holy fucking image posts.
it’s like akuma hax but tedious.

So a normal HAX post. Gotcha.

When did people cared about graphics?

Ever since Ralph Baer made a prototype of the very first game console.
This later became the Magnavox Odyssey

The annoying thing is that, now that the Capcom stans have come to realize that the graphics/artstyle are really indefensibly bad (a few months back they were still defending them…lul), they have started going around acting like the gameplay being good is an objective fact. This despite the fact that for me (and many other people) the gameplay is the most worrisome thing about the game. It’s good if you like a really homogenized style (ie, SF5 style), but if you want some variety, look elsewhere.

I still think SFV looks fine shrug

MvCI is pretty uggo tho sadly.

Older Chunli based in 3rd strike

Honestly SFv had better body physique and facial aesthetic than SF4.

Technically the oldest looking chun li as reference should be SF3 because SF3 is way more future than SF5

SFV problem is that is inconsistent.
It has some 3d models that look good (minus some glaring stuff like the hands and feet) while it has others that look between meh to bad.
Add then stuff like clipping for example and the game starts to feel unpolished.

In Art hands and Feet are the worst to draw, that also applies to 3D modeling as well.
But you think with a company with a Legacy like Capcom, that they would have their act together

SFV has terrible art direction, the faces are ugly as hell, there’s no body type variety and everyone is super buff, cartoony touches that don’t mesh at all with the realistic shading… It’s a mess.

Large hands and feet are a style thing that they’ve been doing since the 90s.

SFV’s issue is that there isn’t much room for creativity, something Infinite seems to have in spades. The former wanted you to just do hit confirm string into special. The latter let’s you do a ton of stuff for both combos and neutral. MvC2 vets, non-sponored ones at that, are already saying that the tag system and gems has benefits for all playstyles if you build your team around it. There’s stuff there that pixies, zoners, grapplers, etc. can develop around. Heck, rushdown, the style I believe y’all are worried about likely isn’t as strong as people think, not when we already have multiple defensive option selects between push block/combo/backdash/throw tech.

If something is offensive to the eyes how can one enjoy playing it? It is possible to disable sound without losing any sense of awareness but without sight the entire concept of cause and effect in videogames falls apart. Shame Capcom will never touch their original colored pencil drawings for their games.

its not about the graphics, its about the effort put into the game

you dont need an expensive engine and tons of gfx designers (which capcom both has btw.) to make a game look pretty

capcom obviously doesnt care about the game so why should I

One part I like SFV Chun Li’s default looks. One part I feel sad for Ken’s face. SFV gave me mixed feelings with their character 3D model design.

And MvC:I has that issue as well. I really just hoping it will get better on release day.

Yeah, Ken’s face is pretty much the most “huh?” part of SFV’s design. I really like some of the other designs, particularly Juri and FANG. Rashid has gotta be the most bland-o nothing of a character design I’ve ever seen, though. It’s like… insulting to put that dude in the same game as Dhalsim.

SFV I agree that I kinda like it and kinda hate it. What I really don’t like is how awkward the spectators look… they’re all jerky and weird and dumb looking. MvC:I is just kinda crap visually. Not to exaggerate and call it a hideous game or whatever, it just doesn’t excel at anything. You don’t expect that kinda design from a major franchise. It looks sort of like a really high-effort knock-off, not the real thing.

SFV faces are ugly as hell

has a KoF14 avatar

Because capcom has been making fighting games for over 20 years and there is no excuse for MVCI to look like complete dog ass.

Because unlike SFV it’s a great game.

The only thing it needs is a better shader, whereas SFV’s models are beyond salvation. A KOF XIV model copied and pasted into SFV looks better than the game’s own models lol.
