If there is an online option through the emulation, then great! But you can’t pass up this opportunity to give what amounts to dinner at a decent restaurant back to the publisher that makes a shit ton of games people play here. I did it, and I don’t really even like most SNK games.
maybe my opinion wouldnt be as explicit like some of the posts above me, but as a person who play the game casually without caring about the tiers, i have to say that the game is pretty fun, i really enjoy my time when i play the game with my friends, you should give it a try
What doesnt make Tung top tier? He shuts down nearly as many characters as Big-Kim etc. I say Tung is S-, you cannot ignore the damage he does. He changes the game, thus that makes him top tier also. In addition to this Tung IS winning tournaments…in Japan as well. (Debukun with Lee-Tung). Don’t tournament results determine tiers?
Hence he’s top tier no?
Also yes to who asked, the tiers have been changing. Even Japan acknowledges Tung isnt bottom tier like in their first Arcadia Tier List.
I’ve barely had the chance to play NGBC against anyone good even though there’s been an arcade of it here for years. The game is looked down on/ignored here. It’s shame though cause I really enjoyed playing this.
If tournament results determined tiers, Dhalsim would be top in SF4 thanks to Iyo. But it doesn’t work like that. Tung’s problem is he loses to the top characters. It’s not enough to be able to beat up on half of the cast (as I noted earlier, there are lots of weak and shitty characters in Coliseum). Tung can’t hang with the top 3, shit I think he loses to Robert free and Robert isn’t even S rank.
This is pretty much the same argument we used to have about Tung, his damage dealing ability means nothing if he has no way of getting in position to use it.
I can see that thus he’s S- in my opinion. Where would you place him Blake? And also where would you place Lee? I mean Debukun consistently is winning tournaments, so its not like one tournament he’s winning with that team you know.
Tiers always reflect areas. I think Japan plays NGBC in a vastly different style than we do. The videos alone are evidence of that–you see less Kim and Big and more offensive-rushdown play nowadays in Japan.
But that doesn’t mean that they’re better at the game than the US is.
That doesn’t mean Kim and Big still aren’t tops just because the Japanese are using them less. I’d like to see those Japanese players land that shit on a really good turtle Big (Justin Wong?).
Tung is a gimmick character, just that his gimmick is really, really stupidly good against non-top tier characters.
Ultimately until that fabled US Vs. Japan NGBC Team Battle actually happens (you know, the one we started talking about 2 years ago?) we’ll never know for sure.
It’d be like Valle/Choi Vs. Japan in Alpha 2 back in the OOOOOOOOOOLD days–people in the US suspected that they were much better at the game and had a grasp of the game that the Japanese didn’t…but nobody knew for sure until they actually played.
Impossible as it may seem , Japan ISN’T always the be-all, end-all master of all non-Marvel games.
I would place Tung B at the highest. The fact that he has one gimmick that leads to high damage doesn’t mean he “changes the game” or deserves to be top tier. There are definitely stronger characters than him. Lee I’m not sure, definitely an A-rank candidate though.
Another thing to remember is that Japanese tournaments are single elimination. Leaves a lot more room for a one-shot character like Tung to be successful, especially if he’s backed by a more solid character like Lee.
I mean, what are you basing this stuff about the Japanese players off of? Just those random Youtube vids that pop up occasionally? Do you actually read Japanese blogs and see them saying that Big isn’t top anymore? Maybe they just went “Hey, you know, Big’s a really dumb character, let’s just not play him.” O.Sagat is soft-banned in Japanese ST tournaments, that doesn’t make him any less of a top character.
But see a question I wonder is doesnt the Tung-Hotaru matchup favor Tung? What does Hotaru do vs. Dive Kicks? I mean if you pick Mudman vs. Hotaru she’s pretty much screwed…
