What's the most played fighting game in the world right now?

Is there a way to find out an estimate? I would guess Street Fighter but maybe it’s something else like KOF.

Im willing to bet Super is, but I would imagine that Tekken has a very large player base as well.

Oh yeah. It could be that. I forgot about Tekken.

you were right the first time, it’s KOF

Smash Bros!!!

Joking… or am I? :stuck_out_tongue:

Tekken most likely.

Smash is so last week. I’d say super is the hottest fighter right now… there is no justice in this world. =/

kof 98 or sf2. kof 98 the most loves game all thw way from china to mexico (except the U.S. because they are pussies) and sf2 because its the game that changed it all

Tekken or Street Fighter.

love how sf4 sold millions of copies and people still say kof is the most played game in the world. it might have a major competitive scene in more countries than sf4 but that doesn’t make it the most played game. “kof” also isn’t a single game and different iterations are popular in different regions.

Job Market has a competitive scene everywhere in the world right now. It’s the most played fighting game.

Well I don’t know about any numbers or figures but in terms of FGs, all people ever play here in Brazil is KOF. Period. It has been like this for years. It’s dirt cheap to set up a MVS KOF cab too, bootleg or not, so you see them everywhere, even in places you would never expect to see an arcade cabinet

I don’t know about the entirety of south america but here it’s pretty much our Starcraft when it comes to fighters - when you add China and Korea to the figure, “KOF in general” (though here it’s 98/2002) as the most played FG worldwide might just be true after all

I have no choice but to say The U.S fg community aint pussies. Closed minded Purists, maybe? But not pussies…and when I say that I mean me. You can go off about everyone else.

I’ll take on anybody, anytime, and anywhere. Cuz when I play…

I LOOK @ DUH DAMAGE, SON!

King of Fighters '98

the topic is fighting games

I think you are seriously underestimating the number of people in south america and asia

Yeah, something tells me the home sales of SF4 can’t quite come close to uprooting KOF’s global numbers

There are 3 candidates for that title IMO. SF4, Tekken, and KOF2k2 (no, not 98).

SF4 and Tekken are self explainatory. KOF may not have much of a console presence, but I dare you to find any country in America below the US where KoF is not the most played fighting game (sadly it’d most likely be the ****ing hacks, but that’s not the point), and then when you add Asia…

From what I’ve read, I’d wager the true running is probably more like Tekken (latest version or one before it) versus KOF in general (Naturally focused on 98/2002/XI, depending on area). I don’t see much Tekken here where I live but it’s noticeably huge everywhere else

Isn’t SF4 mainly big in the U.S.? I know people play it in Japan, but it consistently get less play in those Arcadia Magazine rankings (are they credible?) than Tekken, Melty Blood, Blazblue, heck, even Guilty Gear. Maybe arcade SSF4 will change that; maybe not. However, there are times when it seems like SF4/SSF4 is the only fighting game people play in the U.S. (especially if you live in an area that doesn’t care about anything else; which is like 90% of the U.S.)

But yeah, KOF98/2002 makes sense being the biggest. A combination of being cheap to get (or bootleg) and being competitively viable pretty much ensures it will be the biggest game in a lot of places/countries (practically all Spanish-speaking countries and various Asian countries, as well as others).
