Way to use a game that came out in 1991 to make a point about an entire series that grew out of it.
Funny thing is, even though most (not all) SF games are not fully balanced, the Street Fighter series is almost entirely playable. Chances are, if you pick up any random game with Street Fighter in the title, you can expect an experience that’s at least good, if not great.
Now try doing that with any random game with Mortal Kombat in the title.
Funny. That’s not the point I get from reading the previous part of your post.
If you knew my history you’d know that i’d be the first to say balance is overrated. Now if balance is the ONLY problem I have with the said game, chances are I like it. Because I think PERFECT balance is an impossibility, but because there can be a such thing as WELL balancing, people Do have the right to complain about POOR balancing.
But correct me if i’m wrong, but didn’t i just say that they’re great games? Sounds to me that you’re extremely quick to defend the games for some reason.
Virtua Fighter, literally every character gets used and wins tournaments on the regular.
One of the most famous players who wins tournaments all day everyday uses Lion who is theoreticly in the lowest tier but since the tiers are so close together it doesn’t mean crap. Talking abouut Chibita.
VF is the most balanced fighter out there period. Even the lowest character in VF can beat anyone. Tis why I love VF. Tier-whoring doesn’t work and with the skills of the player, their character, and the universal mechanics, anyone can win. I’ll say that’s ONLY possible in VF. No other fighter has that ability. Close seconds are: SC and DOA().
Well you know it is true that there isnt a single game that has complete and perfect balance but there r a few tittles that come close, MOTW, SS5S, GG, VF5, and KOF96. It seems that from everything Ive heard UMK3’s balance is possibly like 3s in that there is a defined top tier but there a several mid/low tier characters that can compete respectfully…I guess that makes Kabal as good as 3s Yun then.
I do agree…balance shmalance.
There isn’t really a single game released that doesn’t have at least one character capable of curb stomping the others, even if it’s by a margin so small you couldn’t fit dental floss through it. Well, maybe except for Virtual Fighter.
Well, I don’t really hate the Street Fighter series, despite me being an MK fan.
Heck, that’s one of the games I grew up playing, even.
But, yeah. Sequelitis out the wazoo.
Lest we forget, though, Midway did do something similar with the MK3 series, and Guilty Gear is probably the most blatant series to do that in recent times. Honestly, I wouldn’t be surprised if they brought out a game called “Hyper Guilty Gear XXX: Accent Core New Edition Turbo Plus Alpha Slash”, with the true differences being redrawn versions of the last version’s backgrounds, one or two new characters, and minor tweaks here or there without changing the overall engine of the game.
But, I digress.
Also, unless it’s MvC2’s level of tier-whoring, then it’s silly to debate over tiers in a game like UMK3.
Well lets see in 3s Yun has a 8-2 agasint Sean whom is considered the worst, in UMK3 what would Kabals win ratio be agaisnt Sheeva…dos she even stand a chance?
