I’ve never played capcom vs snk before…who are the characters, is it terrybogard or some shit? He looks cool.

I wouldn’t say that the thing is that “only two” are considered good. ST is the only SF2 game played (at least for the sake of this argument). That doesn’t mean that Hyper Fighting is not “good.” Just because KOF98 and KOFXI (though I’m not sure if you meant KOF2k2 over either of those) are the most widely-played doesn’t mean that, say, KOF 97 is an awful game. Yeah, there’ve been some awful KOFs (99?) but it’s still a great series as a whole.
SNK is the kind of fighting game they play in Mexico.
SNK is iteration after iteration of fighting fun.
