If you ever see me on XboxLive (under the same name), you will see me playing Cammy without ever using her canon strike. Not only has capcom neutered the tools of many characters, they’ve given the characters generic tools that have destroyed their original uniqueness. Cammy is a prime example, and why they decided to turn her into a braindead divekick character I have no clue. She is actually extremely strong without even using her canon strike, and all she needs are some very slight tweakes to spin knuckle, hooligan, and canon drill. You could literally remove canon strike from her movelist and she would still be a very strong competitor in my eyes. When I was young I was a gymnast, and I love playing gymnast fighters like cammy. This divekick crap is destroying who she is.
I completely agree with you about balance and uniqueness not having to be mutually exclusive. It is self-defeating to think otherwise.
I wish Capcom could read through every single one of these discussions. They wouldn’t make as many mistakes with their characters if they did… lol or maybe they’d make way more mistakes.
You need to check yourself before speaking on behalf of me. Firstly, I said “normalization” in reference to the common joke at Evo where the characters changes were referred to as being “normalized”. I said this as a reference joke and nothing more.
I am not forgetting that this is a fighting game. Complaining about it shows that I care more about the actual game than you do because I not only take into account the game, I also take into account the story, characters, and canon. Sakura would flourish more as a character if she had canon truly showing the amount of intensive training she went through. I see this in Makoto and Ibuki, but Sakura seems like a fangirl to me. It’s insulting for a fangirl to be a strong fighter in my eyes if they haven’t trained as well as other fighters. Am I missing something, has Sakura actually trained well?
If you’re wondering why I’m on the forums, it’s because I enjoy Street Fighter. Why the hell are you on the forums?
Edit: I don’t care if discussion is profound or not, so long as its relevant. If you do not wish to discuss, go elsewhere and don’t pollute the thread.
You are adding nothing by stating the obvious. What the hell is your point. I’m aware this is a game.
Yea, you’re not going to talk about my Cannon Strike comments but you’re going to give your arrogant judgment of it just for the sake of it. I shall label your post negatively until you fix your lack of explanations.
This is Street Fighter bruh…
What the fuck is a story line?
I mean… Competitive Starcraft players don’t give a fuck who Kerrigan is… Some might, but generally, no. And does Counter Strike even have a story? Talking about competitive games and all…
TBH, I don’t care about canon at all, but two things have to remain… Blanka’s always gotta be a troll and Dan’s always gotta suck. That way, Street Fighter will always remain Street Fighter to me.
Complaining about Sakura being good shows that you care more about the story, characters, and canon than the game. It’s great you enjoy Street Fighter lore and characters but the game balance should not depend on story/characters/canon whatsoever. The strongest characters would be Akuma, Gen, and Zangief while Dan, Sakura, Ibuki (she’s a ninja; not very muscle-based combat style) would be the weakest characters damage-wise. That has got to be the stupidest reason for making a character weak I’ve ever heard. Maybe “it’s destroying who she is” is worse but I’m just going to pretend that never happened.
You don’t care about story or canon??? Don’t you think it’s cool that Ryu gave Sagat his scar? Did you know it was Dan’s father who destroyed Sagat’s eye. Sagat then killed Dan’s father and Dan hates Sagat for this. Did you know that Blanka and Sakura look to Dan as one of their mentors? C. Viper is actually the first official mom who is in Street Fighter (as far as I know). Chun’s father was killed by M. Bison I believe.
Street Fighter keeps its story either irrelevant or very simple because they don’t want to destroy the cool things that have stuck to the Canon. I’m glad they keep their stories irrelevant. It just shows they’re not ready to move on to a deep story yet and would prefer to keep things irrelevant rather than risk ruining the cool Canon they already have.
O yea, watch SFII the Animated Movie.
Edit: I barely played StarCraft, but I thought Kerrigan was freakin awesome. She had one of the coolest stories ever because it was so tragic.
I do think it’s cool. I care about story and canon a bit, that’s why Go Hibiki wouldn’t fit well in SFIV. But it shoudn’t dictate who’s good and bad in the game.
Look, I’m just saying with the Canon Sakura has been given, it doesn’t quite fit with her somehow being in the top tier position. She’s a fangirl in high school. I’m not sayin make her garbage tier, just any tier but top tier. I have to be able to respect top tier characters.
You have an interesting idea of what constitutes “strong”. I was surprised you put Zangief up there, do you know something about him that I don’t, or were you going purely off of muscle strength for him? When you were comparing strength, did you mean tier strength or simply overall damage strength? You could argue that Ibuki while low in damage, has learned perfect pressure points to maximize damage. I believe ninjas are taught that.
The last thing I want is to destroy the strides forward that have been made for balance, but it just irks me too much seeing Sakura so high. And honestly, it’s for cheap reasons like her retardedly high priority and ambiguous jumpins. I don’t want this to trail off topic into a Sakura discussion.
My main point is that in a truly perfect fighting game, the Canon at least has a slight bit of say (very slight) in overall character strength and placements. Seriously… would you be pissed if Sakura was at a higher tier than Ryu. It’s just a simple hypothetical yes or no question.
I’m done with this. I’m coming clean. This is my very last post on this website. The only reason I ever post anything is because I want to at least know that someone who works at Capcom has read and considered my opinions. They don’t have to enact them by any means. I’m done posting in hopes that someone from Capcom will read my opinions. It’s too frustrating not knowing. Farewell.
Look, I don’t give a shit about how negatively you tag my posts, so you don’t need to act like I’ve just received the ultimate insult from you.
No one is necessarily saying that story does not matter. But, this is a game meant for competitive players (not as in “tournament-caliber” people but as in one person/team is meant to beat another person/team). So story will take the sideline, as it should. That’s it.
EDIT: Looks like I’m too late? Seriously, people from Capcom don’t read through these forums daily and post saying “good idea” or take notes on our FG ideas. You might as well go to Ask Capcom on Unity.
If you read between the lines, this dude basically not only thinks that balance and diversity are incompatible, but would rather see balance at the cost of diversity.
Canon is simply flavoring that gives each character a bit of background. At the end of the day, they’re just pixels and hitboxes controlling space across the screen.
Worse case, canon can serve as a limit to the freedom of a game.
At the end of the day, fighting games are emergent - how they are played and who is best in the cast is determined more by the players playing the game than by the developers.
EDIT: Only saw this now but, WTF?
What the hell am I reading? Cammy has had her dive kick since the mid 90s in A3 and XvSF.
Wow…
So we used to have people that non-stopped wanted balance…
And now we have people that want imbalanced based on canon.
Ladies and gents, I’ve seen everything.
No, I don’t care, and yes, I did know. Eliza and Ken have a kid, so she’s the first mom.
The story is irrelevant because they were constantly inconsistent, whereas Tekken and Soul Calibur have impeccable stories.
Done that… when you were probably in diapers. And watching it has no relevance outside of itself.
Here’s some random trivia for you, Mr. Trivia himself… Did you know there’s a SF the Animated Movie game? Yeah, it’s basically Ryu vs. ST Ken, but in Cyborg’s body.
I played SC competitively for about 4 years and I never bothered with single player. I know she’s a character, but I don’t honestly give a fuck about it. The game attracted me to the game. Or maybe being Korean attracted me to it… idk.
If I wanted story, I’d go read the books.
1st of all, Cammy had her “divekick” since the alpha days.
2nd, Having a “divekick” doesn’t make her less unique neither ruins her character archetype in any way, seriously dude, i really feel that your understanding on fighting games is really poor going by all the shit that you have been posting.
Just because any form of dive kick have been implemented poorly on sf4 it doesn’t mean that the tool is hurr durr or it ruins everyone that has it.
You should tell him about GG, a game that blows the diversity of SF out of the water and is more balanced as well.
