Garou is good same with every Fatal Fury games out there. I advise everyone to get it.
That was me. I’ve done a few of those against a couple of people who were new to the game. I made a vid of it in practice mode, where its the easiest thing to do in the world, but, in a real match, its damn near impossible. The only way I found that it can be done in a real match is if the opponent mashes while they’re in a combo, and even then it rarely happens…I still don’t think that makes the game broke, but that’s just me.
Also, I noticed you’re in SoCal, you should hook up with some of us Garou players and come to some of our meets
Yeah, FFS, FF3, RBS, RB2 and MOTW are the great buncha games. Those will be the first fighting games on my neo geo mvs if I get one.
Giby: yeah I remember your vid from fierceslash.com (rip). I also think that it’s not really THAT game breaking, because everyone has one, and it’s difficult as hell, and due to damage scaling. I read the motw thread in socal, I’m not sure, because my friends don’t really play this game and I don’t really want to show up by myself. I’ll play the game with anyone at camelot(except some of the asshole regulars there).
Too bad that most people prefer KOF than FF.
IMHO FF games> KOF games
I didn’t know anything about snk games till I baught kof 2003, which is ok, but it didn’t do much. But when I downloaded Garou; OMGWTF! Now I love SNK’s games. Im constatly playing it, all the time nearly. It’s posably is their best fighter going IMO. It has me seriously concidering buying a neo geo and this game.
I noticed rocks bg music is taken of a dance track, or is the dance track taken of his bg music? Hmm shrugs.
Im just looking there for a site to buy it on the DC, and one says it’s the 8th in the FF series. I thaught it was the 4th?
actually dash their have been quite a few Fatal fury games where have you been for the last couple of years man lol, you only found about neowave the other day i guess you must have really hated snk stuff b4 anyhow MOTW is the last (currently) Fatal Fury game.
SNK seem to have a hard on for KOF (which is a good game) so thats what they give us after that its problay samuari showdown since their working on a new one.
After that surley they will see they have been Neglecting FF series and do another.
Im not sure but i think MOTW was actually a flop (even though its good) didnt it go up against 3s? anyhow thats problay what puts snk off doing another one also.
SNK Games arn’t very known in the UK, they only started apearing on the shelves heavily a year or so ago, with the re-releases. That probably explains my lack of SNK/Neogeo knoledge, plus the fact all the arcades here are gambling whores and carry no decent games.
I’ve always been interested in the games, but never realy had a chance to play them, until I got KOF97 on the Saturn a couple of years ago. KOF2003 was my last SNK buy, which kind of drew me into them, a bit. But when I found a reliable R*M source a few days ago I got this, and it just topped it off. SNK rules! Capcom blows!
I think the quality of Garou is something else. Like I said in my first post, I don’t know what it is. It feels solid and crisp, beautifully animated too. Where I think some of the KOF games feel a little floppy(only way I can describe it).
If Garou has it’s own uniqe board, SNK wan’t to use it more often. If that is the reasion for it’s differences that is. It’s not often I find a game that feels truely different, or that’s drawn me in as much as this. Obviously there’s differences, but none on a scale of this, for me any way.
Yeah, this has to be one of my fav games. It seems to take elements from KoF and SF and meshed them into a great game. It’s also very balanced… every character has a legitimate chance to win.
is LB2 going to be censored? And any talk of an american release?
Capcom doesn’t blow. They got fun and broken games AND tourney games. alpha 2/3, the whole vs series, 2nd impact/3rd strike, etc.
recent KoF actually has as much drawn sprites as motw. It’s just the way they draw the sprites, combined to the fact that they like to detail sprites and use harsh effects(which is good usually but NOT on a low res hardware like neo geo), make the game look robotic and choppy. Pretty stupid imo.
god I need to stop posting. I’m so friggin bored
I don’t know why KOF and Samurai Shodown get so much attention. The majority of KOF games are broken before they’re fun, and Samurai Shodown is just popular because people nuthump samurai and ninjas.
So yeah, Fatal Fury is awesome… and that’s actually saying a lot! The best three games I’ve played are FF3, RB2, and MOTW. Not only do they have names which do not imply that they go together at all, they’re really completely different games. Sure, there’s a few common threads holding them together, but SNK has done a good job of giving each one its own identity by trying different things.
Capcom… well… they go for the subtle approach. Not that I dislike SFA or SF3, but you really have to dig deep to understand what’s different about them.
So that’s one vote for MOTW2. Anybody else?
I been waiting for MOTW 2 since 99. Anyway I think in an interview SNKPLAYMORE said that after NGBC, KOF05 they will star doing work on Last Blade 2, MOTW2 and other old franchise plus doing more new games.
KOF05? Damn, that’s a while. 04 was suposed to be the atomis wave version wasn’t it? Is that included?
I still say Garou is at least as good as 3S, which depending on who you are is good or bad.
Demon Dash - MOTW is hands down one of the best fighting games I’ve ever played PERIOD (from whatever maker). And yes, you can say that it feels more like a Capcom fighter than any other SNK game, especial when it comes to the speed (KOF tends to be way faster). For those coming from a Capcom background (esp 3S), this game ought to feel REALLY good, but also QUITE different in a really nice and almost refreshing kind of way.
The overall engine for MOTW is quite unique and new for even seasoned SNK players. They really put a lot into this game. Too bad it’s so underappreciated. Hopefully support for it grows with upcoming releases to more platforms. I’m sure a lot of us in the states can relate to the SNK scene where you are (it’s not exactly the most popular here either).
FatalFuryD - Camelot? Man, you’re just about right next door to where the gatherings go on. If you really like the game, you should stop on by some time. It’s really a lot of fun and we’re ALWAYS learning new things (despite how old this game is).
Keep Play’n. Peace
Please understand, I got nothing but respect for Garou players, but this counterhit infinite stuff is bullshit. In training mode, if you have counter hit set to on, yes, it tweaks out and calls some hit ‘counter hits’ when they shouldnt be. If you are doing a combo any other way, be it arcade or versus mode, every hit after the first can’t be a counter hit because it isn’t countering anything; the opponent is in hitstun! The only ‘proof’ of this was that video from training mode, and I have a hard time believing that is proof of a bug in normal play when the training was set to have counter hits on.
Can anyone show me a Kawaks reply, using the real garou.zip, of a ‘counter hit’ flashing and the combo meter counting up past the second hit?
Heh heh. Yeah, the short answer here is that “counter” combos (past the 1st counter) are NOT legit. Man, some of these vids have really kind of messed up the scene haven’t they? For those of you who are not caught up on this:
-
In some vids they are using PROTOTYPE ROMS which are not the STANDARD game as most of us know it. Because of this, characters are able to do things they normally could not such as infinites (Grant is notorious here). (BTW, technically the DC ver is NOT the standard either, but most of us HERE use it like it is anyways since for the most part it plays “close… enough” and is the most accessable ver of the game to play… besides ROM.)
-
There are some PRETTY looking “combo” vids out there that have the counter setting to ON. Having the counter setting on allows you to do combos that would otherwise NOT be possible during normal versus game play. For those who play 3S, this is very similar to stun combos.
Hopefully this helps to dispel some misconceptions about this game.
Keep Play’n. Peace
I still don’t know if the game I played it on was the same copy as set1 or or not, cause I used to play at an arcade that had a few early releases, and boots, so there is a good chance it’s impossible to do in the real deal. I’ve never bothered to try it on the rom(real one), but I’ll give it a shot right now. If I can’t get anything out of it, then the version I played at the arcade was a BS one.
Mag, the DC version feels a lot different than the real thing, especially if you only play the real thing. It took me and Noc a a while to get used to it at the last meet. I still think we should have one set up where we play the MVS version, and another one where we play the DC version. At our next meet(s).
MG - Yeah, I realize the DC ver plays a bit diff from the arcade ver. I don’t really get to mess around with the arcade ver all that often at all, but from what I’ve noticed for one thing it seems to be a bit slower than the DC ver (I’m NOT saying that this is a bad thing here, I’m merely pointing out a difference).
Have’n a set up closer to the arcade would be nice just as long as we can get the equipment - sure, it sounds like a great idea. It was good of you to still mention keep’n with a DC set up as well since there is a good chance of see’n MOTW pop up in a console tourney (which FOR NOW means DC). Of course… this may later change with upcoming releases:

Hopefully we see it come out here in the US for BOTH PS2 and XB. We can only hope that these ver will be more arcade perfect than the DC… which wasn’t too bad imo. (A+C presents would also be nice  ).
