"whats a kick" - barlog thread

I’ve just gone about 50-4 in battle lounge, I’m well over 54 games but I’m not counting the W/L.

FT5 sets against a runaway Nash completely trying to mimic infiltration, Balrog shits over this.

Honestly as an SF4 rog main, SFV Balrog is so disappointing to me.
Of all the DLC he seems like they put in the least amount of effort into him.
Aesthetically and technically.
The super is just depressing. I need to scream bionic arm every time I do it so that I don’t die from boredom.

His vskill will probably end up a combo tool instead of a pressure tool.
He’s honestly only at his full potential in the corner.
I feel like his matchups are very polar as well. I wouldn’t say its always 6-4 but its closer to 5.5-4.5 than 5-5.
All the other dlc getting dope ass shit and keeping everything they used to have. He got a duck and weave and lost his headbutt.
And fuck that vreversal headbutt, in a lot of matchups vtrigger ends up being much more useful and it takes 3 bars so he has no defense options. His armored move is wonky.

He’s literally just about stunning you or pressuring you in the corner.
Easily the worst remake of any sfv charter IMO.
And to be honest I’ve been decimating people but I’m scared of what happens when the matchup is figured out.

Watching a PR Rog fight and he rarely ever throws out st hp. I think it’s one of he best poke tools in the game. Am I wrong?

I feel like myself and many others would agree that SFV Balrog is many times more fun and engaging than SFIV’s boring version of Rog. I quit Rog in Super because of how completely mundane he felt in his gameplan, he had nothing fun to execute outside of his ridiculously tough FADC combos that needed b-linking.

I’ve always liked playing Balrog and he was my main in IV alongside Gief and Rose.

Is SFV’s Rog fun? Yes, it feels like that but at the same time for starters, he feels confusing as fuck for me since I don’t have a game plan. Gotta hit that training room.

Interesting since for me, his character model, specials and super all look good.

Especially Super’s simplicity makes it great. Fun to watch, super freeze animation looks great and it represents Rog’s raw power perfectly.

How do you guys convert from CC st.HK without blowing VT? The pushback is killing me. It seems he might be able to frame-perfect walk up st.HK and be just barely in range to land cr.MP, but a lot of the combos here don’t do that.

You actually have a bit of time to walk forward for another st.hk > cr.mp follow up. just lab the range/timing.

Other than that you have plenty to choose from:

Dash in st.lk - st.mk - st.hk (TC)

Dash in st.mk - st.mp (TC) > v-skill punch/kick follow up (after kick follow up it sets you up for a easily timed meaty st.mk)

If you have charge you can get dash straight or dash low.

i’m struggling with this shit too.

I usually dash and mk~mp, v-skill, it builds a nice amount o v-bar, but when i have v-trigger i use it. I’m trying to use cr HP CC, after a blocked DP, but i don’t know, it feels weak… cr HP CC, H Screw, MP dash straight or EX dash straight. I think the best use of v-trigger is for punishing, so I use after landing a st. HK CC without thinking again. Kazunoko’s combo is really strong, we should use if we have a chance.

All you fuckers failed me. Why didn’t anyone tell me every level of TAP was only -2. I thought it was like SFIV where if I charged it past level three it became full combo punishable on block.

Just want to say I love rog in this game. Had a rough day 1 and day 2 ( played my homies ibuki and lost like 80-20 our ft3 sets) then something just clicked with me today.

I think I was obsessed with being this rush down in your face player before and now I’m more methodical in my approach.

Also imo he is light years more fun to play than his sf4 version. Hell I would say his sf4 version was the worse version of rog ever.

PR Rog told me me he thought Rog looked OD from the trailer. I guess everyone looks OD from the trailer though.

He doesn’t use st hp at all. I think he is roging wrong.

I’m a scrub though so I don’t know shit.

The footage on YouTube of PRRog right now is bad IMO, but I think he’ll become the best Balrog. He isn’t playing the strengths and he hardly uses Balrog’s good buttons. No st.mk or st.hp at all.

How - are you after the follow ups to dash straight/dash grand blow during VT?

Stuck on his last trial having hard time get tap out after v trig?

Well, yes. Capcom needs to sell dlc, they won’t make him look bad.

Git gud.

Sike naw I haven’t done it since hour zero so I don’t remember specifics but master your tap timing before you even attempt this. Get that down then knock it out. I don’t remember any of these trails being especially difficult. If I was home I would go through it again.

PR Rog is probably still in IV era. St. HP wasn’t that great there.

The trick is to hold down the HK+HP you used for V-Trig, that’s essentially it. The rest is a cakewalk.

Oh btw, how do I upload replays? I want to show some of my matches off I think I’m playing really well. I’m around 100/120-10/30 at the moment with Rog at a rough estimate
