Anyways, I do believe that this isn’t a furry vs kemono thread and quite honestly, nobody other than the experts care for this argument so no need bumping this thread unless there’s actual MAC discussion which there doesn’t seem to be much of it left.
It’s kind of talking about Monster’s overall appeal/popularity, but point taken.
I wonder what the new characters were like.
Actually, there are plenty of kemono anime out there. Arguably, Onmyou Taisenki is flip-flopping between kemono and kemonomimi.
One of the notable examples is Legendz, a very well-written and good anime that actually takes the “monster + kid” formula and subverts it. Despite having humans in it, they’re barely the focus and aren’t really well drawn.
Pokemon and Digimon are considered kemono too, especially Digimon. A lot of Miyazaki’s works, who also from what I heard hates “moe”, also has many kemono stuff in it.
I suppose you can count “The Cat Returns” and “Sherlock Hound” as kemo Miyazaki works. I totally forgot about those.
Totally forgot about Legenz too.
Anyway, in concern to Monster, Shok has recently released some more 3D model stuff that I failed to notice.

At least the cel shading looks nice eh.
He also seems to be drawing over the top of his 3D models for some bizzare reason.

In a sense yes, I actually helped write and make the newer system for the game
This is also correct, testing in the beginning stages back around 1.0 b-c and started overseeing the system around 1.0d 1.01 1.11b. I wish we could go back to 1.01
Please stop the madness. Before anyone gets any pre concieved notions about me, I am not a Kemono or whatever it is or furry or whatever that is. I simply like fighting games, No more, no less. I believe that monster had the potential to be an amazing game. But that didnt quite go the way it was supposed to
No one’s calling you a furry. O.o
Then again, thanks to today’s stupidity breeding in the internet, young girls who like ponies are considered furries.
1.01 Was indeed the best patch period.
I would love to get back into it if I could actually play people online with 55-60fps. Little lag spikes and any little amount of lag make Monster so damn unplayable it’s not even funny. Some games you can play with a little lag or delay, game still works, but you just can’t play Monster at all like that.
IIRC, the new PC version was promised to have improved netplay. Who knows whenever the game will come out, or it does and never comes out on the PC.
You live on EC now so your connection with people like siky and myself would actually be really good if we were to play 1.01 again. As for the PC version, Dont hold your breath, Wont be coming out anytime soon if at all due to all the daemon’s bride shit. And the fact that the arcade version hasnt been released yet(lol)
I think if me and siky worked on it together we could come up with a better netcode. But there is no fucking way im making new stages. There would have to be a serious surge of interest for me to even consider getting help to work on a new netcode from 1.01. But if there is enough interest, I think we could make that happen. 1.01 was the best, And will continue to be the best patch made. Some of the japanese players still play 1.01 surprisingly so it would be pretty cool to have that resergance. If people are GENUINELY interested in it. Then I will see what we can do.
We probably had the best connection ive ever played in for the game. I think that with Clear sky being EC now you guys would have a good connection as well. EC had a really awesome connection with one another and i think Of the people in central Turbovec had the best connection all around for playing with anyone because the games with him were always smooth. You people tell me what you want to do so we can try to get something rolling again for 1.01. If thats what you people want
You know how hard it is to write in new stages? I ain’t no engineer! I could throw up a stage for you in 3DSM, but I’m not gonna be able to put shit into the game cuz I ain’t no programming queen. Serious though, why do stages matter? Only important stage is fire underground and castle at night, though the forest is pretty hype too. Combos too busy in 1.01 anyways for it to matter!
You have to realize, none of us have the original game code. Some japanese dude in a 4 tatami apartment has it tucked away under his monthly subscription to Megastore H and other than attaching external netcode like caster (which I would also like to point out, most people here wouldn’t have a clue as to where to begin as well) is hella hard. Having local 2 player mode makes it easier to make something like caster, but where would I begin to start trying to make new stages and recompiling the main exe to include them? In short, I can make the stages, but who’s going to put it into the game? Making stages are easy and putting them in is easy… if you have the original code, which we do not have =]
But yeah, Monster does hae great potential. It has the feeling down already and even though there are balance issues where everybody complained like crazy about certain things, that didn’t stop people from abusing what works and forcing other players to just learn how to deal with or avoid them. Only thing left for us is to convince Fooligar to move back to the east =p… or bunk with turbo lol.
My position will pretty much be the same. If people show a geniune interest then maybe I’ll do it.Honestly though, I’ve suffered alot because of the ammount of work and time i put into this game. So I dont want to do something and it blows up in my face…
You guys got me interested to play again.
Just a quick correction… IaMP netplay has been around for a few years now, and has been steadily picking up steam because of more exposure and knowledge in the open. On the other hand, Akatsuki’s netplay is new but it doesn’t seem to be very popular for netplay, as it gets more play offline.
As far as Monster goes the amount of work needed to make the game playable online is daunting. It’s easy for someone to say what needs to be done, and another thing for all of it to actually happen. I’ve never even seen the game played offline at the few tourneys I went to, it simply had too much stigma of being “that furry fighter”.
The game as far as I know has never been played offline. Honestly, I dont really care if the game gets played offline even though that would be ideal. Kinda sucks but take what you can get. That stigma is annoying though…
smacks and I played it offline for a month or so. It played really fast and controlled well. He just got tiered fighting against yang style f-katze all the time.
other than that, ive never heard of anyone playing this offline, would be interested to hear peoples experiences with this.
Monster 1.0 ftw?
The game peaked at 30 people online back when WC vs EC was okay, slowly it got worse, but who knows why. Only reason for not much offline play is because of the stigma towards the game. Like Emil is the only person I know close enough to me to play Monster offline with… the whole issue is most of the people who go to major tourneys that play Monster are going for other games and then there are people who took care of the tournaments online and we don’t even go to Evo and such and offline play is difficult when a lot of us are used to playing Monster on keyboard and since when do people plug in 2 keyboards into 1 laptop? You could do local play with 2 laptops, but that’s 2 laptops that you require (wish I could supply one, but I have like 4 desktops and zero laptops lol).
You can create an offline scene, but the game is mainly played online and finding a good programmer that is interested in Monster is hard. We can get better netplay quite easily if we convinced someone ahem to give Monster more of a chance, but since this is all on like 2 people, it’s still quite difficult especially when the Monster community itself was never huge. 20 active players was nice, but it’s not huge. It’s enough for the community when they all are willing to participate in weekend tournaments and bi-monthly combo videos, but it could definitely be better. Too bad we kept trying to follow the patches instead of just sticking with 1 good version. sighs
That was more of a community fault that a person to person fault; waiting for another patch I mean. Of course ShoK had a helping hand in that for sure but oh well. Either way, I would be completely content with 20 or so players. That would give me the insperation needed to actually try to get something done. Hell at least 10 players would help
