WHATAMIFIGHTINGFOOOOOOOOO!: the MvC3 Zero Thread

Tried it, liked it apart from 1 big problem I have- Zero’s escape options on entry don’t compare to those of Magneto or Doom for example. That’s a big gambit, you’re basically assuming more often than not your first character wont die and your opponent wont have entry mixup ready (yeah there are things that can change this i.e. safe DHCs out but you may aswell ignore that for now). And with more and more people improving, deadly entry mixup will be the norm. It IS the norm in some circles.

Defo don’t like Zero starting out against Hulk though, trying to figure out a solid counter pick at the start of the match (Zero obliterates him if he gets the space but the start is just devastating)

>_> I’m pretty sure you were mistaken because TMD plays Zero/Wesker/Magneto

I](‘http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=O9CAJ0B82fo’) train with this guy and this guy does absolutely NOT play doom. maybe some other zero player? >_>

I am mistaken though. Either way, I like Zero second. And magneto first is pretty amazing.

Message from Zero to Vergil and all those false gods of Marvel.

I haven’t personally experienced this weakness at the opening round gambit that some of you guys have.

Proper positioning at the faceoff, mixing in air/ground throw techs and/or properly spaced s. L or Ryuenjin BC tends to do wonders for me at least.

Against Hulk, backdash is nice, but more often than not I can find a way to put some distance on him by crossing under at the faceoff. Even if you can’t a grounded throw isn’t a disaster against Hulk. He gets a decent setup if the Hulk has his tech traps down, but sometimes its a sacrifice I’m willing to make.

A grounded throw is the only real option against Hulk for sure, but it’s still trouble when he’s backed by missiles or Sentinel cos then you’re still trapped in whatever way you roll by the drones. The scary thing then becomes the fact that the Hulk realises you’re allowing them to grab and instead chucks in a command throw or a cr.L which’ll let him ToD without a problem.

Magneto backed with drones or Akuma is a bitch at the start of the round aswell.

Apart from that it’s all pretty much peachy, even then I tend to start most of my matches backing up rather than in the opponents’ face (too risky IMO).

I guess I was pretty ballsy starting the match against magneto in his face. Idk I feel like the option select air H or air grab w/ zero backed by ammy is really good. I only don’t do that against teams w/ haggar as anchor or a haggar/hulk on point due to lariat and hulks armor moves lol.

^ You need to teach me everything you know about Ammy man. I’ve decided I’m gonna ultimately work on 3 teams for ZerO
Dorm/Doom
Dante/Strider
Doom/Ammy

No idea how to best utilise cold star or the right times to call it out yet =/

My problem with the start of the round is I [HATE] risking Zero in an All-In gambit first move of the game. S.L Ryuenjin is all well and good but the fact that there are counters frighten me. Even if empirically Mags and Zero have the same survival rate I can’t stand to risk Zero. It may just be personal but I consider magneto expendable in a way zero is not. I don’t mind getting clobbered with mags at the start if it happens.

<3 you guys

Glad I made 5th on day 1 but I was way out of it on day 2. I could have beaten Mihe too, sad times.

vids? vids???

Wait toaster played mihe? I’d like to see that.

So I was in the lab today trying to figure out “what haven’t we fleshed out with Zero?” and I found some decently nice tricks in XF3 with Zero.

  1. If you’re in Sougenmou, Zero’s shadow DOESN’T have x factor, this means all of his moves are slightly slower than point zero. But, this makes for some interesting self assisted cover setups. You can do level 1 or level 2 buster, then M hienkyaku and self cross up from around mid screen. At st.H range you can do st.H > level 1 buster > L hienkyaku and get the shadows buster shot to cross up.

  2. Level 1 buster can be hit out of the air by normals, I never noticed this before. But if it’s anything like Striders animals that can be hit out of the air, then it actually absorbs the hitbox from the enemy and negates it.

  3. Non- xfactored you can level 1 buster from full screen then M hienkyaku, and it’ll cover you all the way in. Works with L hadangeki too but that’s slower and probably known.

  4. In XF 3 you can do instant j.L L command dash down cr.L and it’ll combo at the fastest timing. Back to back this can make some lightning fast high low mixups. Non x factored you can do instant j.M L command dash down cr.L and it’ll combo on hit or act as a mixup on block. Pretty nice for the fuzzy guard setups.

Zero actually seems to be able to do XF3 pretty well with sougenmou. The shadow and it’s projectiles act as a self assist and make getting in actually not hard at all solo.

Edit: lol you can do buster > TAC > dash cancel > TAC > XFC > TAC. That next level TAC glitch.

the thing that sucks about this though is that like 90% of this stuff can be negated if someone chicken blocks or push blocks most of this stuff /: And he can’t combo off of his air grabs by himself unless he uses xfactor off of the air grab to my knowledge /:

XF3 Zero can do self mixups not just with buster but also s.L and s.M and c.M. using the shadow. timing a bit weird, if you cancel into teleport too early the clone won’t put out the normal.

A shadow clone gimmick I’m starting to use is sogenmu, F.H (1 or 2 hits), H teleport. Depending on the number of blocked hits the shadow clone pushes them enough that the teleport either crosses up or not. I’m sure pushblock negates it completely, but making them pushblock should open up other options.

Yay! <3

My match against Mihe was sad. The first round I totally out-zero’d him and got him down to Dante anchor. Then dropped a combo and he X-Factor came back. Second round he got a hit and killed my whole team.

I know I can beat him but, 2 outta 3 isn’t enough.

toaster, i wish you played marvel more competitively. show the world what a real zero player can do with a lil bit more tourney exp

I’m, considering. If I gain the ability to travel, and decide to put in the work, I know I can reach the top. But right now I got other things to do.

Also I’d prefer the game be rebalanced again because this game is pretty stupid right now. Vanilla was the best.

I agree you’re way better than Mihe. I don’t know how he gets lucky so many times. If it had been standard 3/5 you would have got him imo. Mihe just mashes so much that it lets him scrub people out with dante.
