I hate being auto-corrected ultra agiasnt my cross-up mp BK. But that just something you have to learn; dont do the cross-up when he has ultra you have many more options.
I just wrote and erased a 4 paragraph vent on Viper. I have well over 30k worth of matches with her and stuff like lk.lk.mp.ultra is something I can pull out mid match with confidence.
The point of my rant was that as much work as we put in with her, matches vs. Dictator, Boxer, Honda are beyond broken. For all the time we put into training mode she should be one of the most feared characters, maybe above sagat but really she can be beaten by anyone that mains those characters and has a cool head under her rushdown game.
I’m not sure if they intend every fight to be “fair” maybe not, but its pretty sad how easily she gets stuffed and thrown out of 90% of her moves/strings by anyone that spams or just rushes back through most of her offense for the trade or outright clean win (really? Cammy can TK fadc TK through FFF for more damage than I was going to do anyway?)
As much work as we put into her, she should be feared more than Sagat in our hands, but maybe thats not what Capcom wants. I don’t know what to ask for in Super, but the more I look into things, it seems not everyone is meants to be on equal ground.
BTW, she IS fun to play with, and thats why I stick with her but its sad to work so hard only to have Boxer (that you can’t FFF most of the time) do a combo into ultra for more DMG with much less work and timing required.

Only thing I want is HP TK is like a SRK. And for shits and giggles EX TK goes through fireballs jk.
I actually don’t hope that they “Fix” any of Viper’s shortcomings, besides her lower health, and they just give her a better mixup game, like making her overhead faster, and immediately off the ground during startup, or having her j. HK come out quicker so you can use it like an instant jump overhead like Chun Li has. Also, seriously, fix the damn hitbox on her cr. MK. It’s embarrassing, how it is now.
Also, with her Burst Time Ultra, I’d like the period between her fisting the floor and her beginning the burning flips to just be gone near entirely. That way, it could actually be used as an anti-air if timed early enough on their jump in.
I would like to see her EX TK function like Balrog’s Turn Punch, except with a crumple at the end, of course. Besides that, I just hope Capcom balances her out with the rest of the cast, to be honest.
Well Seth Killian basically said if you don’t like SFIV don’t expect to like SSFIV anymore. So basically any of the wishes I had to make Viper more interesting on a fundamentals standpoint (and the game period) like more active frames on crouching normals and block strings that are completely frame tight is out of the picture. So Viper will basically remain a rather gimmicky character with high damage potential. Meaning you’re still going to have to be overly cautious about your jump in HK’s on an opponent’s wake up and c.HP to EX seismo will basically be a guessing game still if the opponent blocks the c.HP.
So with that Viper isn’t a bad character as it is. I just think she could use a couple more footsie tools and not be so reliant on baiting people with specials that have insanely long start up. It just doesn’t make sense for a character that bleeds as quickly as Viper to have super slow frames on everything but like 3 of her normals. Yeah I think an obvious buff is to fix the hit box on c.MK. It’s one of the few really footsie tools she has and it already starts up 2 frames slower than Ryu’s. Why does it need to be gimped on range too? c.MP already has shit for range as it is. I’ve been learning to use c.HP a bit more since it only starts up 1 frame slower than c.MK but it’s a bit part of SF to at least have one normal that scares people into low blocking and it’d be nice if c.MK did a better job doing that. I would say it wouldn’t be a bad idea to lower the start up on her sweep but now that I see what she is capable of doing with is using SJ focus dash maybe it should stay the way it is. It’s best use to just punish dumb shit like whiffed shoryus otherwise and most things in SFIV are hard to punish on block due to little to not access to moves like supers that have 1 or 2 frame start up.
One thing only:
remove requirement for jump cancel rubbish to chain from Seismo. Just make Seismo cancelable into specials. Seismo -> TK is such a pain to get consistantly, especially if you only intend it to cancel the TK to recover from seimo a bit faster. And don’t say practice until it doesn’t matter. Any character that has half his/her value based on a complicated finger/speed based function that isn’t even covered by any company provided documentation is pretty lame. Show me where in trials they ask you to combo from c.mp into ultra, or FADC out of seismo without losing EX stocks :\
Also: Her new alt in SSF4 is a full body leather biker suit kind of thing. I can’t wait for Motoko/Alita style viper
Cr.lp>Ultra. Not the same as cr.mp>Ultra, but you get the picture. Funnily enough, cr.lp>Ultra is actually tougher than cr.mp>Ultra.
If u don’t like Viper’s execution then go play Rufus or Ken. The execution is rewarding and is what makes her fun to play. She was designed for people who like to be creative and spend time with their characters. Not people who want all the tools laid out for them. Capcom designed her to be execution intensive on purpose because once u get it down u can basically do a million different things with her special moves.
Also I hope u do realize that most of the combos inthe trial mode (especially viper’s) are outdated and were only thrown in to give you a taste of what she is capable of. Just like in the old days where people would use completely different combos one and 2 years after a game’s release than what shit was in a combo video the day it came out.
Though I am hearing they are doing things like making mk to hands with Gen easier to use. Like one or 2 less kick inputs is required or something. Long as Viper doesn’t instantly turn into some character everyone can spend an hour with and figure out she will still be very interesting for me.

The SJC cancelling is some of most interesting mechanics she has allowing for some really advanced techniques and I tell you it’s very satisfying landing that shit down. It always an eye opener to the person your playing against and is a real test of your skills as a Viper player. Yes, she requires 10x more work then most other characters to win consistently with but when you do start raking up those wins it becomes satisfying then any win you get from the rest of the cast. I guess it would be satisfying getting a ton of wins with Sakura’s resets.
Actually, I kind of wish Viper had more awesome resets besides EX Seismo SJC j.lk/j.mk land dash or specific crouching lp TK FADC dash cross over glitches. Though Flash’s EX Seismo SJC FADC dash s.lp, dash cross over is pretty sexy as well.
Seismo> Tk is actually easy. Try doing a 21478+p motion after seismo. Works everytime for me. I actually do it too fast sometimes on the ex seismo so i started “linking” on that one instead of sjcing it.
Also hard trial 2 and 3 would like a word with you.
