What you think is the best KOF version?

Lol none of the grapplers in KOF are like super tier anyway. U must turtle like a madman. How can KOF take no skill but ur losing to the grapplers all the time. If u said Choi or Billy then i would seem like u knew what ur were talking about. The only one thats easy to play is Clark. But Ramon is hard as fuck to play in 2k2, Shermie is easy but not as easy as Clark. O. Yash has mixup but u have to take risks to do major damage. And Goro is plain mid tier. Goro is the only good grappler in 2k3 by the way.

Most people would claim the top seats to '98 and 2k2, and then consequentially start rabbling about which of the two is better. Each side of that rabble should probably take the time to consider the fact that there’s a very substantial fanbase for each game.

In the case of a typical sequel, most fans move on to the next game, and forget about the older titles. There are some who like to stick to an older incarnation of a series, but generally the majority will feel the series has improved and advance to the next installment. Many people stayed behind with '98, though, and also many went on to 2k2.

It’s my theory that this kind of thing happens when the superior game isn’t quite so clear cut, because the newer title changes in a significant enough manner that players have to take their sense of taste into account. Now, consider there’s about 4 or so years between 2k2 and '98, and the games were not exactly designed by the same people, and I think it’s not too hard to believe that the games play in a different enough manner to make this idea plausible.

So yeah, I really just think it’s a matter of your taste for gameplay more than anything else, considering both 2k2 and '98 are generally thought to be pretty good games, and people often can’t agree on which is the best.

And to those who hate on 2k3. I say learn to accept a fun game once in a while. 2k3 can be played at the tournament level, and the game’s fun as fuck. Duo Lon’s a pain, but he’s not unstoppable either. Not like you should piss your pants if somebody uses him. He doesn’t even get to use that infinite of his much so long as you stay out of the corners.

If that is true then why is the ratio for competitive high level matches 2k2 > > > > 98 tell me that and I’ll show you a green dog. Even on Kalli 2k2 is tops most of the time as the most played game meh, I haven’t been on in a while but it’s been like that for 2 years or so IIRC.

In my kof98 experience I’ve seen some broken stuff in kof98 not major but still there and enough to spoil the game for me, and I’d also say that even though there are more charas and character modes, allot of the charas are similar… in 2002 has the most diverse playstyles imho

Yes BC is a factor in 2k2 but if you’re letting someone build meter that much you deserved to be punished imo, but Ry Guy is right on the money :

so screw all the 2k2 haters

Neowave is good but it doesn’t feel as good as 2k2… characters selection kinda gets me lame Jhun (esp since his 2k3 version is so awesome)? Saisyu just feels out of place and no k9999. Maybe if it had all the charas? still don’t like the idea of starting on max bars, but nw is still good but doesn’t feel like it’s own game imho.

And 2k3 I hate tagging, maybe if it were before a round starts or something but the timeouts ugh duo gah that said the game is fun and it is something different but the timeouts really mess the game up imho does it favour turtles and broken gameplay?

Once again I advocate 2k2 for the win Jedi council has spoken. lol
I haven’t played XI yet looks good but I worry about timeouts and abusive tagging crap and worst of all the bosses ala SVC :frowning: I hope I’m wrong.

Ummm no, Tizoc is.

Hate to inform you sir, but often Goro is a manly beast of death, and 2k3 is one of his good years. He’s top-tier up there with the likes of K’.

Yah but Tizoc is also pretty damn good, does gato count? Semi grappler?

Gato wouldn’t really count I think. As for Tizoc, I hear he’s decent, but I’ve never really seen a nice one in action.

I agree, The Griffon’s really not bad in 2k3 but he’s far from Daimon’s beasting

I’ve just been getting into XI, but seeing as I haven’t really played KoF properly since 97/98, I bought 00/01 on PS2 to practice on, but compared to XI it feels extremely slow and unresponsive, so i’m considering getting 03… could someone tell me if it plays more similarly to XI, is it a bit speedier than 00/01?

WTF??? What ignorance of some people on this thread obviously about SNK games in general…“NONE OF THE GRAPPLERS IN KOF ARE TOP TIER???”

Uhh dude 98 try Goro Daimon, 2k3 ENTER GORO DAIMON… XI enter Clark.

Erm we have misunderstanding here In 2k2, neowave etc they aren’t really god tier as the one poster tried to imply… medium tier or just a little bit better I’d say

although Shermie is quite kick ass in 2k2 imo

Yeah I agree with that…they arent top tier in 2k2/NW
that is very true…Shermie is good but she takes some work…

Yah but if you roll to much in 2k2/nw and constant rolling is an indication of turtle?

Then a good grappler will make you his bitch lol

A good grappler will make you his bitch for just doing anything unsafe in general, rolling being pretty unsafe in large quanities.

KoF 98 and 99 are good, 2K3 PS2 version was pretty decent. Alot of other good ones really.

KoF 96 though, that is the shit right there. GEESE fucking HOWARD, bitches.

Yes but geese is better in 2k2 (PS2) And definately Neo Wave…trust me I am a Geese fanatic…I know a tad bit about Geese

He does have an infinite combo in 96 though…

Ralf in 2k2/NW has some great Hit confirmed things…watch this Japanese Ralf at SBO3…beastly…definately got some strats from him.

A Geese Howard fanatic?! Hiiiiiiiiiiiiii :lovin:

Any word on NGBC for the PS2 being released in the U.S.? I really don’t want to shell out $400 for a console that doesn’t really have any games I’m dying to play at the moment. The Japanese are getting a PS2 online version just like MOTW, Last Blade 1&2 etc. all with online play… (damn Japanese!) And I really really want to smack Rock Howard around with Geese, I kind of want to slash him around with Genjyuro as well. :wgrin:

NGBC comes out Dec 22nd (Jap PS2)…you have to import it that date…other than that its up in the air is going to come out on the XBOX 360 also…oh boy I can definately help you with Geese…I know practically “just a little bit about him”

Matter of fact, the Geese in my av is Young Geese from NeoWave/AOF2. Pick your game with Geese in it and I can help you out…

I can help you with Genjuro also…hes basically mean on wakeup…that has been his staple since day one (Sam Sho II)

I try to be as well versed in the fighting games as possible…Capcom and SNK alike (More SNK however easily)

KOF 96 Geesee infintine works well on all exept choi maybe:rofl:

must charge your bar and then, :d: :uf: (a quick shortjump) +:snkc:
repeat until you do lots of hits and damage:rofl:

Yes and 96 Geese let to one of the best or most broken Geeses depending on your POV…SVC Geese…who is better in KOF 2k2 bc he is SVC based with the KOF properties…
