#1 is nobody good to play. people always talk about how important blocking is, but unless you’re playing a good magneto/storm on a consistent basis, it’s tough to learn to block well.

The fact that my execution isn’t that great and my reflexes are terrible. MvC2 is simply too fast for me. There’s so much stuff going on, a lot of times I feel overwhelmed and my brain can’t keep up with all the stuff that’s going on. The fact that I live in the middle of nowhere with no competition and I don’t have a car to travel around discourages me even more from practicing and improving my execution and/or trying to improve my reflexes.
-
Nothing really. The fact that I don’t play MvC2 more often has more to do with the flaws in my own playing then with the game itself (just refer to my previous answer).
-
IMO MvC2 is probably the most unbalanced game there is in the sense that the difference between top and bottom tier is so drastic. However, no fighting game is perfectly balanced; in MvC2 there are several characters other than the top 4 that are fun to use and worth playing, the game has deep gameplay and it’s fun, and that’s all that matters.
-
Yes. IMO MvC2 & GGXXS are the most difficult 2D-fighters to get really good at. Both games are very complex, require very solid execution, fast reflexes, both games have deep gameplay. Just mastering how to use assists in MvC2 takes a lot of time and practice.
-
Definitely. Playing CPU gets old really quickly.
I don’t play it seriously because infinites are gay
It seems like a fun game, there’s just noone to teach me .
because guilty gear is better and theres plenty of more people to play guilty gear in the midwest than there is marvel, also because im not 100% black like George, im only about 35% black and about 100% Korean, which makes it really impossible for me to take Marvel seriously because there is no zerglings, railguns,or the word “craft” in it.
I’ve got no problem. My plans to get my stick were trashed though…I don’t have the dc version anymore. But I still go to the arcades…well really just dennis’. Only problem is everyone plays at nickel’s…which is a great journey for me taking public transportation. I need a car. and money!
Main reason why I dont play Marvel is because i’m trying to master ST at the moment. Also I dont have the DC version and the closes arcade with it is an hour and a half away.
Yeah…about that team thing…guess I should tell you all what that team is in the first place, right? Here goes…
The Mainstays…
-
Spider-Man / Capture Assist (Spider-Man is my favorite Marvel Super-Hero, hands down, and actually feels natural to me when it comes to playing as him in the Capcom fighters he appears in. I understand that he doesn’t take hits all that well, and doesn’t really have any exploitable tricks, but to not use him at all just feels strange to me.)
-
Spiral / Projectile Assist (Her teleportation rocks the house, AND builds meter, and you can kinda do some cool shit with her dancing swords, which also seemed to be a good assist as well. I understand that she doesn’t have too many combos, and her level 3 super is hard to land due to the nature of it. Her other problem that I notice is that she is not DHC friendly…she lags with the swords anyways, so there isn’t much point in trying it with her unless she’s starting the chain with her level 3 super.)
The 3rd slot Variables…
-
Morrigan / Projectile Assist (To me, she’s almost like using a better version of Ryu. Simple, but gets the job done because she’s not as boring to play as Ryu is. Her beam super is also nice-ish…but nowadays, ain’t worth shit.)
-
Psylocke / Balance Assist (She was originally where Spiral was in my team when I started playing back when the game first came out. I switch between her and Morrigan depending on my mood at the time. Psylocke is cool because of her combos…they’re more fun to do to me. I think I should start using her more often, especially since I still see her in videos every now and again…)
-
Storm / the tornado column assist (The only one of the God Tiers I can somewhat use…I have a handle on her combos, but I can’t really tri-jump or whatever its called all that well. Her specials always seemed a bit slow on execution to me, and thats why I never really used her much…)
…so what do you guys think?
Yea, drop all that, pick up Sentinal, k thx bye.
Well, Juicy G beat my FUCKING ASS yesterday at the tournament, so, though I’ve played the game for 3 years, I still have gobs of shit to learn, and am willing to do so. What’s remarkable to me is the fact that Justin Wong has maintained an interest in the game with an utter lack of competition, except for the relatively recent emergence of Sanford as comp in MVC 2. But I suppose it does and always has been a source of income for him.
My point is that, in my opinion, if you stop learning, it’s no longer fun and you always learn more from an embarrassing beating than a dominant win.
Despite getting bitch-slapped by Juicy G, I had a lot of fun during the process. Maybe I’m just a glutton, but that’s what is fun to me and gives me a mark for improvement.
The learning curve for Marvel is, in fact, steep, but that’s the beauty of the game. In my opinion, the material you can work with in 3s and standard 2D fighters is too finite, and it gets stale.
Watching Popoblo vs Wong in the CvS 2 grand finals (both playing A-groove) has the same effect on me as 3 tylenol PMs despite having an interest in watching people play Bison. Towards the end of the finals, I found myself staring at nothing in particular. At least pick K-groove, somebody. (no offense to Popoblo or Wong, btw)
I only have Nevermind around as competition, so my experience is rather limited. Chris Rose once, as well. I guess this is for Popoblo who says nobody around is good: Well, including myself, right here is 3 people who could all teach you something if you really cared to get involved in MvC 2. If we could get us 4 together, and Ghaleon as well more often, we could maybe become a little challenge for the bigger names out there. Here’s to hoping :wgrin:
We should get something going, somehow.
To sum it up, I had a great time playing MadBooFace in casuals, and being knocked into losers by Juicy G. Although I expected it, I hoped for something different. Both people were cool as hell and graceful winners. They offered me a yard stick to which I could measure my current self and see how far I needed to go to reach the same tier. Once I reach that plateau, I can move up, and up or stagnate, and the choice is mine, but for now, I want to improve. I hope to see you guys at the next tournament.
Despite having a lack of competition, I still strive to be competitive. Oh, but it’s hard, and if it were easy, there would be no point, I think.
What in sam hell are you talking about? New York has HELLA top players to practice with, only matched by Cali and maybe Seattle.
Recent emergence of Sanford??? You are smoking that good shit my friend.
No one plays marvel in the arcade anymore :’(
I asked friday if anyone was going and no one replied, I would have went if I got some hint of interest to go up there, ah well. There’s your arcade marvel.
oh, well I posted before that I was going lol
I was probably on the train when you posted, so no reply possible.
My friends and I play this game non stop at our arcade (GameWorks IN) The only way we’ll keep playing is if we can keep our tourneys running on a regular basis. Playing the same people gets old real fast.
At our recent tourney I got to play Nunez and Dave, who are really good IMO. At our next tourney, I hope you can come out as well Derek. When we can finally nail down a definate date (I’m a tech there, and we are installing a new card system among other things) I will let everyone know.
For people who can’t travel, the lack of competition is the biggest problem. As far as this game being difficult to learn, all I can say is if you stick with it you’ll be surprised at how well you can play. That being said, the more you top players are willing to teach, the larger the community will be.
I have no car…so I just take metra to nickels…anything else would take me forever. But I do wanna play more people.
I make the effort to go to nickels, but no one has really been there so far.
No shit. I know NY has all kinds of tough or impossible comp… for AVERAGE mortals, but Justin Wong is SOMETHING ELSE ENTIRELY.
Don’t neglect to comprehend that key term (RELATIVELY [recent]) that I put in the sentence. How old is Marvel now? How long has Sanford given Justin CONSISTENT competition NEAR or AT his own level? Who was it BEFORE him? No one? yeah. Considering the game is getting to be ANCIENT, yeah, Sanford’s emergence is RELATIVELY recent.
Since your COMPREHENSION is a little sluggish, I went ahead and capped the KEY terms of my POINT.
Say what in the what now?
Dude Sanford’s been at that level for a minute. Yipes is kind of newer I guess, but he’s been beasting for awhile too at this point.
Yeah, I wish Obkb and Nevermind you guys lived around me. Literally zero players in N. Ohio, Perfect Legend won’t even play. If I were you guys I’d be going to C-bus every couple weeks to play Fugee and Tim. Tim is fucking addicted, haha.
I’d totally travel to GW tournies, but the money situation sounded iffy last time – if you guys had a standard structure and maybe had a couple known players run it, it would get people out (prob be a good idea to have other standard games as console tournies at the same time too).
I’d fight, but its like…I put in my Nickels and then get beasted…stupid competition gaps…
