I’m gonna pull a Dane Cook on this one.

…Nobody liked him…

In any fighting game Ryu has starred in, he’s always been your “for beginners” or “basic balanced” character. However, that’s just the problem. He’s too basic. I play the hell outta him, even in a tourney, and my best combinations are best done with some kind of assist setup.

Now to add a plus to him, the ability to super jump cancel into a Shinkuu Hadouken from a s.hk is neat in its own little way. Super jump cancel into air hyper combos are more instantaneous anyway (Cable for a perfect example but he has more potential with it than Ryu does since you could immediately land and perform another air HVB AND connect).

Personally, I seldom play Ryu as a ground character because what can he really do on his own? He’s better off emphasizing on air combos.

Now this next part is for fun. There’s a 1/100 chance you will see this or even pull it off. Jump and right before you land do a lp.Hakdouken, land and immediately chain a fp.Hadouken into a Shinkuu Hadouken. Heh, talk about fireball frenzy.

Honestly, I can’t really relay any advanced/fancy stuff on him (If anyone else can, please do so as I like Ryu). My advice is to experiment with various assists set-ups, mainly those that could provide a chance for air combos.

just play him like street figher. cr poke cr poke walk forward and forward+mp it will throw or overhead them rinse repeat and mix it up. just play slow and calm and know how to block :wink: build meter b&b combos not too hard

would be cool if ryu in mvc2 can parry. LOL.
yeah. ryu basically needs a good assist.

His tick/throw is really the only abusable thing he’s got, it would seem.

I’ve got a Viscant vs. Zaza vid where you can see Zaza making use of it, trying to get some use out of Ryu. Didn’t help much though.
