Looking for some info on this one too, looking to buy my first stick and right now it’s between the Soul Calibur stick and the Madcatz Pro.
I prefer the Soul Calibur stick between the two. Can’t go wrong with either though. They’re pretty much the same outside of the shell.
I don’t really like the Vewlix layout so I never really considered the Hori VLX… but do they not feel as solid as the HSS? I’ve never handled one, but from pictures they certainly look to be the modern equal…
How is the Genius F-1000? Anyone familiar? I got to try it but I’d like second opinions. For $55, worth it?
Thank you for responding, I actually already had ordered it when you responded so I picked it up from the post office. I was afraid that it didn’t work because when I started SSF4:AE it didn’t respond, stupid me forgot I had to fix stuff in button config. Sat an hour looking for how to make it work before I thought of that Thanks again for your response though!
Does anyone here have experience with the Hori Fighting Stick VX ? Would it be a good entry-level stick ? I seen reviews on amazon but was told to never trust those reviews due to them being bull crap.
I’m stuck between getting a Eightarc Fusion or Etokki Omni Rev 4. Both near the same price and are multi console. What do you guys think?

What price are you looking at and do you live in the USA? Entry level sticks are fairly worthless if you’re looking to upgrade later since entry level + new stick is significantly more than just starting with a good quality stick and sticking with it.
I do live in the US and the stick is around 50 bucks. Should I just save enough to get a MadCatz TE stick ?
I would do that. I’ve seen new TE sticks as low as $70 on Amazon (not super common, but it happens- most recently with the SCV TE stick). More often, you’ll see the SFxT Pro sticks for $80. Occasionally you’ll see someone selling a used TE for $65-85. Spending just a little bit more can make a big difference performance wise.
Since you live in the states I’d say save for the TE, Madcatz usually have specials for events that they sponsor with Summer Jam this coming weekend if you have the cash you could pick up one. Or try the site’s Trade forum to see if anyone’s selling in your price range and system.
I have to agree - the SCV and TTT2 sticks have been on sale pretty consistently since CEO for each event that MCZ has been sponsoring, so if you’re interested in either, I’d hold out to see what unfolds next weekend.
Yes, get a VX later when your new addiction takes hold of you.
I’m upgrading from an old Hori EX2 that I got for like $25 two years ago to something a bit less… well, worn-out. I’m looking to get a Madcatz stick, so I could use some help choosing between these two:
Fightstick PRO: http://store.gameshark.com/viewItem.asp?idProduct=5792&idCategory=274
Soul Calibur V Stick: http://store.gameshark.com/viewItem.asp?idProduct=5309&idCategory=274
Seems like they both use Sanwa parts and everything, so I’m wondering if I could settle for the SCV stick. But if there’s a significant difference between the two, I’d rather spend the extra $30 now rather than regret not spending it later. I’m not a SUPER serious player – I just play with some real-life friends every now and then. But I still want something of good quality.
(Oh, and minor question, but does anyone have experience modding the art on the SCV stick? I’ve never played SCV and have no intention of doing so, which would make the art a littttleee awkward.)
The body of the SCV is TE based, which of course is probably one of the most popular fightstick bodies out there. It will really give you options if you decide to mod it later on. Electronically, they are essentially the same - at least in the sense that you can take the same approaches to dual modding it.
Like you mentioned, parts are not an issue, as they are both Sanwa based. Personally, I like the look of the TE body over the Pro, but that’s just my opinion. If you don’t like the unique sword-inspired bezel of the SCV, it can always be replaced with a standard TE bezel, or you can opt to go with a full face plexi and or artwork with it.
Speaking of modding the art, I just got THIS last night…

Oh, one more thing, the button layout on the SCV caters to the game (can be easily rearranged), but the layout is Namco’s Noir layout, vs. the Vewlix layout of the Pro, in case that makes a difference to you. The Noir should be similar to the layout used by many of the Hori sticks I’ve seen, so it should be familiar to you.
EDIT: Oh, I forgot… If you wait until this weekend, MCZ, might have a sale since they are a sponsor for Summer Jamz… Chexk the stream this weekend for codes that can save you $$. If they repeat the last few sales they’ve had, you might be able to get the SCV for $20 off, or the Pro with free shipping.
Neat, thanks for the info. I think I’m just gonna go ahead and grab the SCV stick. If internally they’re really similar and they both use Sanwa parts, I don’t see any reason to spend that much more money on the PRO. The SCV stick is… rather ugly, but oh well. Where’d you order that artwork? I might spring for a new front-thingy sometime if the art grates that much.
Oh, and thanks for the heads up on the sale, but I think I’m just gonna get the stick from Amazon now. I have Prime, so I get free shipping and it’ll arrive in 2 days, so saving $20 and then spending $13 for 7-day shipping from the Madcatz store is meh.
Scv stick looks better than you’d think. At least in my experience
@Postmanmanman - I won’t argue about opinion, because in matters like this, everyone’s entitled to their own… but I will agree with @SmokeMaxX that it does look different from plain old pictures once you have it in front of you.
Personally, I like the translucent smoke case on the SCV, and given that it’s a TE body, there’s a lot you can do to customize it, if you’d like. Don’t like the translucent Red/Blue sides? They can easily be changed out with various colors available from MCZ in either the classic full side, or TE-S (flat) style, like the sides that it comes with. I personally opted for translucent smoke colored full sides on mine… Don’t like the sword-edge inspired bezel on the stick? A standard TE bezel will fit just fine, and they too are available in a bunch of colors. Heck, you can even opt to do away with the bezel altogether and get a full face plexi with or without art underneath. When I think TE, the freedom of choice immediately comes to mind.
I don’t think it’s that awful, and I’m excited to see what it looks like in person, I just think the art on top looks a little bombastic/loud. Plus I’ve never been a fan of artwork where the game’s logo is displayed prominently.
The translucent case looks pretty neat, though and the little sword-bezels are unique.

Does anyone have experience modding the art on the SCV stick?
Being a TE variant, changing the way the SCV stick looks is as easy as any other TE. Which is very easy!
As @PlayDoh003 says, if you don’t like the sides, or the bezel, you can just change them. Here’s my SCV TE:

And, being a TE, even I was able to dual-mod it with a Cerberus.
