Lol - why hasn’t that auction ended yet?
the only actual issue the ps3 TE’s had were that they had issues with certin PC drivers… Unless you modded it with a imp v2 and a 360 fightpad you wouldnt be able to use the stick on most PC’s… but for a TE that is a great price for those that play console only…
Well I bought it. What PCs can these work on? Maybe I’m lucky? I would have had that issue on the SCV stick right?
I hope this thing has decent packaging.
Edit: On a laptop so no way to install more USB ports like the solution most had for PC.
Also just realized I typed nodded instead of modded. Stupid autocorrect.
So I asked the seller if there was any original packaging and the response given was “No packaging”.
Now that I’ve had time to look stuff up it appears to be a Round 2 TE stick, original art and therefore no plexi installed. The buttons have been changed but that could just be colour preference. I’m pretty sure once I get it I’ll need help identifying what’s in it, like what’s stock and what isn’t. Where should I be doing that? I know it’s not this thread and I know I’ve already clogged this one up with enough of my posts.
Ok, I’d like to thank you for the original posts, read through them and I was still a bit worried about it because of my current history with the SFXTK fightpad from Mad Catz for PS3. My L2 button broke, it pretty much popped out and the hook was torn off so it couldn’t be put back - thank god for tape, a few days ago so I’m in the hunt for something new. I’m pretty new to the game but since I’m probably going to have to order it from US (or somewhere else?) I rather pay a bit more to get one of high quality.
So I was originally considering the Mad Catz TE becuase that’s one that I know is high end, but after realizing their pretty hefty price at most places I’ve looked (upwards $250~ish) I decided to rethink it.
Needs: I want a high-end quality stick that can survive bit of mashing and a joystick thats reliable. I don’t know how rough you can be on the joystick and maybe I would be better off with something like an HitBoxArcade(?) stick, which I personally think seems to be awesome.
Wants: I’d prefer no art at all but I’m playing SSF4AE so I’d ideally like one with the art from SF. but it’s no requirement if it can cut down the price a big amount. I don’t know if there’s really a need for the TE or anything, but quality is most important along with reaction speed
Budget: well, anything around 200-230 is my absolute max, but I’d prefer one cheaper, but I guess that’s very hard to come by. I live in Sweden so the shipping is probably going to be a bit but don’t include that in the calculation.
Thank you.
I dont know if he’s still doing sticks but www.shadaloo.eu is around your region that might be a better place to find a stick if mainstream sticks like the TE is hard to find… as far as price goes it might be more tho =[
Yeah, I checked it out earlier but only seems to be parts. I think the mainstream sticks are possible to get shipped, the hitbox is $60 to ship to Sweden which is quite a bit, lands around 220 for the PS3/PC version… Shipping in Europe should be fine.
I’ll take a look into modding and see what that costs, but is it in general cheaper or more expensive?
Thanks for the reply.
modding tend to always be more expensive…
I’m looking for a PC fight stick for use on SSFIV:AE and Skullgirls. Will an X360 stick work for both of these games? Why the hell are these things so expensive?
EDIT: I am fully capable of modding, and I would love to swap out buttons for custom artwork and such. Suggestions?
Sticks are expensive because
- Parts. A good stick will have genuine arcade parts (or made to arcade part standards) regardless of the actual part brand (examples Sanwa, Seimitsu, IL, Crown ect…)
- Materials, 8 to 10 pounds of metal and plastic does not come cheap, especially when its in a useful form.
- You get what you pay for. Get a el-cheapo stick, and the stick will be complete rubbish. Pay for a Excellent stick and you notice the difference. Why you think the Sega HSS-0130 goes for more than a Hori VLX despite being old and out of date.
Look with the DIY route, you are looking at aprox $20 to $30 for a good joystick, and another $20 for push buttons. Get a good PCB(s), thats $30 to 80, thats a max total of $130 and we haven’t gotten to the case.
A good case will run you $35-50 for a empty shell of a retail stick (like a old busted Hrap or TE) to as much as $300+ for an excellent custom wood case.
You are looking at $200 to $550 and up for a good custom stick. You cry if you ever see the cost of a B15 stick.
How do retail sticks sell at $150 to $200 and make a profit, well 1 they buy in bulk. 2, they manufacture in bulk a few thousand plastic housings the most expensive thing to get would be the mold.
Its why with stick and console redesign the last thing you see change is the outwards shell. They do everything in bulk which cuts down in costs, and the retail store it self still gets ripped off making $5 profit from a $200 sale. Its Why Best Buy offers so many accessories , cables and service plans, as those are high markup products. You flip out if you see the retail markup on USB cables or HDMI cables (it isn’t as bad a fresh fruits and vegetables).
If you want a easy to mod stick with tons of options, get a Mad Catz TE-S or V.S., Next on the line is the newer Hori Real Arcade Pro sticks. Although I am lacking hard proof, I can’t recommend any Qanba sticks as their reliability issues with their “dual-mode” sticks, I do really mistrust items made by the Asian grey market.
So I’m trying to prepare for when I get my TE stick from eBay that I posted.
I got my tools to open it up. What should I do to check it out once I get it besides plugging it in to see if it works? Where could I post pics and such to find out what’s stock and what isn’t? Anything to be aware of with this model (SF4 Round 2 Tournament Edition 8838)?
first off you only need a 3mm hex wrench to open the TE from the top…
On the turbo panel switch it to DP and make sure its unlocked…
plug it into the ps3 and do a stick and button check… you can get a feel for the stick right away if theres anything wonky with the stick or buttons…(did I just say wonky?!?)
after that open the TE from the top and take a look… your looking for pcb’s inside the carrige other than the turbo panel… this would be an indication of some type of dual mod or quick fix to get it to work on PS3 (360 if it is actually dual modded)…
with the buttons the colors that they are you can already see that someone changed out the stock parts… it is possible that your buttons and even the stick are not stock… you will be able to tell by the markings on the buttons and stick… it should have sanwa printed on them…
more than likely all they did was a button swap and call that modded but if there is actually more you will see it right off the bat when you open the stick and look inside… PS3 TE’s look as if they are missing something since its a universal body and the PS3 pcb unlike the 360 is all within the turbo panel and not the section on the bottom where the 360 pcb is mounted for the other models… its okay tho… it should work flawless with the ps3… everything else you can get functionality with a dual/multi-console mod…
Enjoy
I would also add that you take a look at the little warranty sticker on the bottom panel, just to see if the previous owner opened it up. There’s really no need to remove it (unless you want to change the sides or feet ), but it’s a good indication of how “curious” the previous owner was…
I also kind of don’t like how the cord is tightly wrapped. Over time, the internal wires start twisting, and… Well, it’s not good. I like to try and keep the folds as they came on the cord… It makes it easier to store in the cable compartment too.
I like the idea of buying an empty shell and just plugging it with buttons/pcb/artwork and such. I’ll probably go that route-- Thank you. Also, back with my initial question, will an X360 stick be compatible with Skullgirls and SSFIV on PC?
As long as the XBox 360 Controller for Windows driver loads properly, it should.
Wonky is a perfectly fine and descriptive word.
Thanks for the tips. If I get confused I’ll post in the giant question thread or something. Hopefully all he did was a button swap, thought maybe I got lucky and it’s dual nodded. Though honestly I’m lucky enough as it is getting it so damn cheap!
Will do.
The cord made me angry looking at it. Hopefully it’s not too tight. I’ll just have to re-introduce some appropriate bends to put it in the storage.
That begs the question, why isn’t it in the storage? I’m guessing it’s because they didn’t realize it was storage. Makes sense since they seem to be a store that sells really old electronics.
In 360 mode a dual-modded stick should appear as a regular 360 controller and there’s an official Microsoft driver for that.
Thank you. Will do.

Or, even better, don’t use the storage compartment at all. Get a Velcro cable tie, and loosely loop the cable like you would a hose. Much kinder to your cord.
Does anyone have the mad cats fightstick pro that just released in NA that used to be japan exclusive? If so, are the specs the exact same as the sfxt fightstick pro?
