I don’t recommend the Injustice stick as a Beginner stick. Yeah its cheap but … the parts are substandard and you spend a considerable time and money trying to upgrade the Injustice stick.
Take my word for it, I wrote a guide on how to do a full Seimitsu mod for the Injustice stick it requires alot of dremel work.
I’m guessing that the next sale will be during CEO at the end of June - buy that’s just MY guess. Of course, given that the SCV stick has been offered for the last two events, I wouldn’t count on it being one of the sale items yet again - unless they didn’t move the quantity they wanted or something.
$100 is a great price for that stick IMHO, but getting it for $80 was even better!
The street fighter x tekken stick currently 80$ on AMAZON for both PS3 and 360! So mad I don’t have any cash to buy this, take advantage as there is limited stock. Don’t want some noobs taking advantage f this DEAL!
With the crazy Injustice sale that Gamestop ran today I managed to order one of the editions with the stick in it for $100 but not sure if I should cancel the order. I’ve seen Darksakul and others mention it’s not a great “beginner stick” but I’m not sure exactly why, is that just in terms of modding difficulty or play as well? I had also been under the, clearly mistaken, impression that this stick was Madcatz for some reason. (Still very odd to say that’s a desired brand in anything) Granted, I already have Injustice but are considering this about a $70 stick if I trade my current copy at BBY for $28 this week while the other ships so that’s about what I’m looking to spend.
I have a Hori Real Arcade Pro Ex for the 360 which wasn’t awful, though I didn’t honestly enjoy it as much as I hoped, but now I’ve gotten rid of my 360’s for a PS3. Replaced the buttons on that with Sanwa, I believe it’s been like two years at this point, and the ball top. Also did custom art work for it and learned my lesson there, no more with glued on art. So, I’m comfortable with basic level modding but do not want to have to dremel anything and would really only want to be swapping buttons/stick at most. I don’t believe I changed the stick itself and would be open to pillaging this stick for parts if they’re an upgrade since I doubt anyone wants a SF4 Rose flavored stick and there’s no chance of going back to the default “art”. I saw in the big thread on the Injustice stick that some of the parts seem to be slightly non-standard, if I understood everything right, and also don’t want to run into a situation where I can find a part to match whatever I end up doing with it.
So what I’m considering are the following:
A) Keeping the order since I like the pelxi top and default artwork is ok; the LED lighting is nice but would probably be left off most of the time anyway. The bat top I find oddly compelling as well. Concerned about the quality and play without extensive work.
B) The Madcatz Soul Calibur V stick. Think the default artwork is beyond hideous but if it’s like the other TE sticks and under plexi (making it easily swapped without ruining the art) I would be open to that.
C) The The Street Fighter X Tekken stick. Still not a huge fan of the art, the “Line” version isn’t completely awful, nor the look of the case but about the same price and if it’s the best quality that’s what matters in the end. Long as the art isn’t glued on that is. Also I assume the only difference in “Line” and “Cross” versions are the art?
Only game I would be using it with right now would be Injustice, though I might grab Street Fighter X Tekken and Darkstalkers if I’m going to have a stick to play them on. I’m not great at these games but enjoy them and got reasonably good at SF4 when I was playing it constantly (though still probably mediocre in the big picture) so I don’t know the difference in all the parts and just want something I won’t regret buying. Trust your guys input and appreciate it, just want to make a decision ASAP so I can know what to do about this order while it’s still able to be canceled.
Both. If you did a Mod like I did and went full Seimitsu and a PS360+ you have alot of case cutting to do. The alternative would be using Sanwa SW-68 switch swap on each button (or flat out replace the button with 30 mm japanese buttons) and modding the stock stick with Sanwa parts is easier than using a dremel.
The Injustice stick is more of a Collector’s item than it is a serious stick unless you are good at modding. Then again I modded a Dreamcast Agetec stick.
TE Mods are alot easier, even with the glue. The trick is warm up the top panel with a hair dryer so it loosens up the glue and allows the art to be easily peeled off.
Once you get the default art off, most of us order/make a art print made on medium weight paper and a top cover plexy. This makes future art swaps easier.
That’s a shame, really like a lot of the design elements better than currently available Madcatz sticks under $150. I would buy the Hello Kitty one in a heartbeat for the awesome camp if it weren’t so much. If it at least came with a few more extras beyond the skins I would probably be more willing to put in the extra work to make it “butter”. Oh well, suppose I’ll cancel that order than.
Now I think I’m leaning toward the Soul Calibur stick but are there any concrete advantages with the SFxT stick in quality/use that I’m missing as I slowly trudge through the respective threads on them? Still not my favorite in the looks department but the general case design and button layout of the SCV stick are a little more appealing where the SFxT case looks… large and awkward I guess. Just doesn’t strike me as well but if it has some significant advantage I can live with it. The TTT2 version would be almost perfect for an out of the box stick but sadly there’s no way I could justify paying twice as much.
I also noticed you mentioned in the first post that some PS3 TE sticks have issues with the PC; do we happen to know if the SCV and SFxT models with their upgraded PCB still have these issues? Not a huge deal but if I can move the Hori stick and not have to hang onto it for PC SSFIV:AE all the better.
On the off chance you’re still looking at the thread what led you to go that direction over the SCV stick?
Edit- Shockingly Gamestop actually processed and shipped my order at 11PM which I really didn’t expect. Guess that’s what I get for not making a swifter decision, still would appreciate any opinions on the other two sticks on the off chance the local store will let me return it there. Found your topic on how you modded the stick so gonna look that over and see what I think about undertaking this.
SCV and SFxT sticks do not have that issue with PS3 -> PC. Well, officially the PCB is “improved and not guaranteed to work on every PC” but it works on every PC that I’ve heard of, unlike the previous iterations.
EDIT: Sent you a PM with some additional information. Hope it helps.
Can anyone who has the Hori SCV/TT2/DOA5 stick vouch for how comfortable it is? I was considering paying ~$20 more for one instead of the SFxT stick, but I’ve heard a lot of complaints about the shell for the Hori stick.
I am really torn, the more I look at the thread on the Injustice stick and what people did to mod them the more conflicted I become. Looking at the SCV stick it’s very likely that I would then be spending $60 more to swap out the side panels, bezel and add a plexi cover; then there’s the consideration of buttons and topper once I’ve decided on a theme and production of artwork… At that point I’m at $130 minimum. On the other hand I might have a JLF stick I could frankenstein into the Injustice stick but the ongoing consensus seems to be that it’s just not worth the effort. Wish I didn’t have such a constrained budget and the Injustice stick already on it’s way; I would just give that a go until something better came along but I’m probably going to be lucky to break even on it just turning it around new. I’m super picky I know, but isn’t that the point when I’m going to have this several years probably.
Sorry if this is on the wrong thread. I’ve been doing research for like 2 weeks but I’m being indecisive. I’m looking to fill some fighter nostalgia is all.
I’ve got a WWE Brawl SE stick. I’ve already decided to go with the Seimitsu buttons. I’m debating on the joystick.
I’m leaning away from the Sanwa. The long throw annoys me especially for double taps.
Short sticks annoy me so I’m thinking no to the LS-32. My favorite fighter from when I was a kid was Killer Instinct which I think was an American stick with an ultra tight spring (feel free to correct me on this). So for the tight spring, taller stick, and octo gate (helps my Hadoukens) so I’m debating between LS-56 and LS-58. I’m thinking 58 but I’m not sure. Any opinions so I can relive my KI glory days?
From what you are saying the Japanese stick that you want is the Sanwa JWL with a round gate, its the closest thing to Happ stick that a Japanese arcade park maker makes.
LS-56 and LS-58 are shorter sticks with a tighter throw
I think they’re pretty comfortable. I personally like those Hori sticks A LOT. You can’t really go wrong with those sticks or the MadCatz SFxT Pro sticks IMO. Just preference.
I think that’s the general plan, just hesitating because I like the other options in the price range so little and finding the cost to get them customized to my liking rather discouraging. At the same time I can’t bring myself to buy the Tekken Tag Tournament 2 stick for $160 when the SCV one has basically the same parts if I read the first post right. I know that the SCV stick is probably best I’m going to do in my price range but I still wish it was anything but Soul Calibut. I know, I know I shouldn’t be getting stuck on appearance.
Edit- Ended up ordering the SCV stick from Amazon, now I’m going to pray to Cthullu that Gamestop will let me return the Injustice stick or someone will pay me cost for it.
Didn’t expect that response! Thanks for the info. So the Japanese sticks have a shorter throw in general then american sticks? Also, why did you recommend a round gate over a octo gate?
Edit: You said JLW not JLF. I’m researching it now. Thanks for the advice.
Alright after some research I don’t think the JLW is the best choice for me right now. Not a whole lot of places are selling it and I’m reluctant to take on breaking down the 5 pin connector for my first stick. What’s your second recommendation?
I actually don’t like the Pro sticks that much, but it’s not a bad choice. I like the Hori sticks about equally to a regular TE (maybe a tad bit more).
Well with a few mods you can simulate the feel of a American stick in a JLF with a tighter spring like Paradise arcade’s 2 or 3 lb springs, a longer shaft and a Bat top (with bat top adapter)
You might also want to get a bigger actuator (the red one that Paradise arcade has is nice) or you can keep the default actuator and go with a toodles Spark or Rollie’s Flash 1.
Ultimarc makes a replica of the Sanwa JWL called the J-stick.
Reason I said a round gate for the JWL is that 1 the JWL has no octo gate and technically Happ sticks have no gate per-se but they function as if they had a round gate due to the square area of the Microswitches and a square shaped actuator. Ultimarc makes a Octo gate for a number of their sticks (works with the Sanwa JWL and J-stick).
