I love how people who have only followed EC Marvel for like a year come on SRK and start name dropping like they know what they’re talking about…
I just saw like 5 or 6 names of players who didn’t even start playing Marvel until a year ago. Remix? Dood no offense but I don’t play Marvel anymore and I beat him on shitty Break controls last tournament. Some people need to get their shit straight…
You forget Marvel is a SIX year old game. When it first game out, it was dominated by Blackheart and Doom runaway teams. People like Julian Robinson, Alex Koo, Eddie Lee, Arturo Sanchez were the top players of the time on the EC. The middle tier were players like myself, Ryan Lee from Connecticut as well, Josh Wigfall, Justin/Sanford who were trying to learn the game, Pryde and the Ong brothers from Boston. In fact for like 3 or 4 major EC tournaments straight it was the Ong brothers dominating, including the huge almost 100-man tournament they ran at CTF. There were also two players from NYC who unfortunately I can’t remember their names, but they played TEAM BIG and were raping Cable players. Ridiculous.
Right after that, about a year later, players like Sanford, Desmond, and that group started doing better and better. Josh Wigfall and others started with the RUSHDOWN and the game began to change. Bryheem became one of the most solid Cable players there were, and most of the Connecticut crew started to fall off, along with a lot of the older players like Arturo. Josh Wong, Demon Hyo, and a few others from Philly like Rick Mears started to step up.
I think the definitive turning point for Marvel, though, was ECC7 when Rowtron and the rest of Seattle came to the East Coast. That was when everyone REALLY started to understand how to play the game…it’s mostly about RUSHDOWN not just stupid jump back Cable keepaway. After that tournament, so many heads turned, and SO many players retired. It opened up the door for a whole new level of EC players like Mixup and Yipes and Isaac Graham and others.
I would have to say over the past two years, which I really don’t understand, there has been a SURGE of new MvC2 players coming out of NYC. I have no freaking idea where they’re coming from because from what I hear, CTF is pretty much a shithole now and nobody goes there. But we’re talking names like Smoothviper, Remix, Yipes, and others who previously nobody even knew about, but now they’re actually placing and raping people nationwide.
So please, if you’re going to try to give a history lesson, consult your elders first
And by the way, EC for teh win!
EDIT: Oh yeah one more thing. I know that most of the credit goes to Eddie Lee/Arturo/Wigfall for MvC1 but keep in mind that CT had a HUGE MvC1 scene and we always gave you guys a run for your money. If we actually played you more than 1-2 times a year we probably would have been beating your asses…remember who Double War Machine REALLY came from!
