Like a guy upthread said, really you don’t have to justify it - they’re just retarded. However, for what it is worth, I have figured out just where comments like this come from: guys who think that their “one true definition” of fighting games have the only play mechanics that are legitimate. And any other play mechanics, like OTG, or assists, are not valid play mechanics. “Real men” wouldn’t dare use such mechanics if they were playing the game. Much like banning throws because they’re “cheap”.
In other words, they’re Super Turbo nuts from 1996 who move the goal posts to define any fighting game mechanic that their game doesn’t have is an illegitimate mechanic and you’re a “noob” if you use it. Noob as in you don’t know anything about how “real games” play.
I guarantee two thirds of the hatemail you get in a modern game come from guys who are only playing those games because they feel they have no choice, since that is where the “scene” is now. Instead of learning the games and playing them well, they just whine that the games are no good so if they lose it only proves the other guy… sucks because he won.
Then they come on SRK under different names and bitch about how fighting games are being destroyed by SF4 noobs ;D
Played a guy named “InfiniteMystery” on XBL. My first 2 chars go down fast. With my last char, I take out his first char after he did random bionic arm, and caught his second char in a sougenmu combo, and then he quits. I ask why. Then he sends me the following in a voice message:
“I’m not reading your message you stupid mother fucker, I don’t give a shit what the fuck you’ve got to say. I’m only doing this shit 'cause I’m preparing for a foreign event. Once I lose a character that’s it. Stupid mother fucker. You’re not Marn you stupid fucking idiot. Stay free mother fucker.” At the end it sounds like he spit on the floor.
Oh, and I got this gem from another player: “fuck u.” It was after he rage quit 2 seconds into a match, when I caught 2 of his chars and did basic combo into hyper.
WOAH WOAH guys im gonna be honest i think phoenix is cheap & for the record she is not EASILY beaten. Dark Phoenix is cheap in a lots of peoples eyes. Even during commentary in tournaments youll hear time & time again how much BS she has. The only easy way to kill her off is to tag her in early. So yes I do think phoenix is cheap & sentinel isnt that cheap, more like it feels that way since noobs disgust me when they pick him thinking itll give them an automatic win. But thats my personal opinion however i also dont respect anyone less for using them because after all they are in the game for a reason.
LOL i think i played InfiniteMystery before. Also i kind of get annoyed a little myself when people randomly catch my assist. But still…never enough to rage quit.
I haven’t gotten any hatemail, but I do love random player matches that go up to like 20 rounds, haha. If we both stay that long, then it’s like I automatically have to send a “good games” message to that guy.
How the FUCK is Phoenix cheap? This is a bonafide “scrub detected” thing for me. Period. She has 420k stamina.

Simply put, I don’t care who this offends. There is NO EXCUSE for somebody to “lose” to a Phoenix and proclaim her “cheap”. It’s a complete lack of skill and understanding of the game. To my knowledge, only 6 characters, maybe even less, cannot, Kill her DP form with -one- super (namely a level 3, even at peak health, is GUARANTEED death sans maybe…what, 3 or 4?..out of 38? Your opponent has to save up FIVE and you can’t save up THREE…?..hm) Kill her DP form with maximum -three- chipped supers
This does not count her being killed within TWO HITS by ANY x-factored high-damage output character (hulk, sentinel)
Not to mention you can
Time her out
or
Punishing rushed teleports/feather spam
or
Actually BOTHER to kill her regular Phoenix form.

Again, this sounds like scrub-rhetoric one-o-one. Please learn the game and prevent yourself from causing un-necessary “I can’t play this game” patches.
Which was exactly my point, but I think its extremely easy to kill her, both having played as her and played against her.
Especially snapbacks with a cross over, usually done within the first ten seconds of the match. I don’t think it requires any “extra” effort, just a character-based strategy. Again, lord forbid you just can’t remember a 100% combo and destroy everyone you encounter.

Yeah well, thats great but you are forgetting that if DP gets out, you have to kill her AGAIN so 420 + 420 = 840k, thats some decent health…
Lol timing her out its a proven FAIL, lately every pro/commentator in streams had mentioned that you cannot run from her, its like she was designed to not let you escape, she has a great set of tools that will let her chase you all day long… and while her options get cut when you are in the air escaping from her, she still has ways to do some damage.
Rushed teleports are punishable thats true… BUT thats only if you recklessly teleport, something no decent phoenix player will do… take into account that every Jean player will spam her qcf + any attack move, all day, until they can raw tag safely…
And if DP is out she can just spam any move to get feathers and if by chance you hit her you wont be able to follow up that because if the feathers.
So the only true option its a random beam super… at a distance… and thats only if you are not playing against a teleport spammer… for me thats the same as a coin toss…
I actually play against a lot of phoenix players and i win regularly, but i dont even bother feeling good about that, for me phoenix players dont deserve respect, they are clinging to a gimmick… it actually lets you notice how badly they want to win, so badly that they are willing to use that as their last resort, a fucking gimmick, i havent been defeated by a phoenix team that made me say “wow, this guy knew what he was doing the whole match” its always the same, you trash the first 2, just for them to get 5 meters and get DP out… or a snapback into " a miracle blocking until they raw tag "
And i dont know if its a tendency or what, but everytime i get to play against a phoenix team that doesnt include haggar or/and Tron, i get to rape their first 2 characters pretty easily, but it doesnt matter how bad they are with those first 2, because if they get those 5 meters (something so easy to accomplish in this game, and even easier after losing 2 characters), you are fucked.

Snap backs? lol let me super jump and spam my projectiles all day! most of the characters wont be able to do something about it, i will raw tag out my ass whenever i get the chance… lol…
Fast killing my other 2 teammates?? lol i get 3/4 bars for that alone lol…
level 3 x-factor on your last character vs my level 3 xfactor??? lol you still wont be able to punish anymove that i have… i still get insane damage and insane mixups with my teleports… lol
You wait for my x-factor to run out?? lol i still have my life draining super that actually lets me get hit.
In fact any decent phoenix player should use that super more and they dont do it… they dont even try to play her the right way, they only play with her because of DP… why tha fuck should i try to play her decently when i can just spam A and teleports all day and still win any match???..

its stupid that she gets life back from being out of the battle, how??? why??? she is in DP mode were she is losing life all the time! but when she gets tagged out she suddendly stops being DP??? wtf…
X-factor life gaining?? FUCK NO… i mean i would agree to let her keep her life like a normal character, no life drain for her while she is in DP mode, but LIFE GAIN??, she is losing life at all times, how is it possible for her to still gain life when she is in x-factor?? i could understand that she would get less life back, but it seems that she gains life back FASTER that any other character in the game… THATS BS…
X- factor power boost?? NO… because she already does a ton of damage… how come other characters wont gain significant speed or strenght boost while she gains something stupid like both things??? that shit need to be fixed…
If you cant see past all that then its ok, i mean everybody has its own opinion, but dont try to make us see her like she is defenseless…
In a phoenix team when you are decent with your first 2 characters you are actually at an advantage, cause it doesnt matter if she gets killed, the opponent would have wasted a lot of resources just to deal with her, right there you still have 2 characters, x factor and possibly 4 or 5 meters… if they dont kill her, then you get DP out and the match ends in a coin toss…
the best point that i’ve heard about Dark Phoenix was someone on the Wakeup SRK podcast a few weeks ago. They said, “the most ridiculous thing about Dark Phoenix XF3 is that she can instantly kill a character with nothing more than a magic series. She should AT LEAST be required to finish a full combo to kill someone.”
I think most people (including myself) find Phoenix players to be pretty obnoxious, because she’s a little too “herp derp”.
Even most of the pro players are not too fond of her. If you saw PowerUp 2011, in the MVC3 winners finals, Floe pulled out a Phoenix team for the first time in the tournament just so he’d be able to beat J. Wong. After he won, they asked him on the mic if he was proud of himself for doing that, and he said no. He basically seemed ashamed of himself for playing Phoenix.
It’s like… if you want to play Phoenix, you know that you’re either going to lose in a ridiculous way, or win in a ridiculous way (i.e. in a way you shouldn’t be proud of). So why would you want to play her at all?
She kinda goes against the whole spirit of the game: the satisfaction in landing a big combo to earn your damage, or in setting up a genuine mixup (instead of just doing air fireball -> teleport over and over), or in learning and using true zoning tactics (instead of having your fireballs automatically track).
Yeah, it’s a combination of lvl 3 XFC and Dark Phoenix that’s really obnoxious.
The fact that she can kill you so easily is crazy. I mean, yeah she can die easily too, but not because she lacks defenseive ability. Just because she has low health. That doesn’t mean shit though if you’re trying to argue for her. Trish has 825k health (I think) and Thor has 1.25 mil. Does that make Trish easier to kill? Yes and no. Yeah she has low health, but no because that’s just depleting her health. As far as actually killing her, that’s difficult. She’s got pretty good fireballs, her scythe projectile, simultaneous traps to place, great range normals, dive kick, flight, double jump, etc. Thor has way little to defend himself compared to that.
Yes Phoenix has low health, but she has herp derp super jump, 3 fireball, teleport, rinse repeat. But also the aspect of only needing 5 hits to kill anyone with lvl 3 XFC DP. Nothing in a game should be pretty much given on a silver platter. I mean, I use Wesker, and him in XFC can kill anyone with a magic series ending in Samurai Edge and I think that’s lame but Phoenix is just the worst.
I guess while she’s just Phoenix, she’s just an annoyance. When she’s DP she’s flat out stupid.
But I have a friend who used (maybe still does) use Phoenix on point and he was fuckin good. Phoenix is a beast of a character because of all she can do. Top 5 for sure.
Well, it’s just behavior that fits the actual, original, and specific definition of a “scrub”: people making up imaginary rules in their heads to justify why they lost the game. Heck, forget sportsmanship. Rationality doesn’t even enter into it. It’s pure magical thinking.
