What on earth is a *.mkv file?

I downloaded this movie, and the file extension was .mkv. I have no fricken idea, nor does my dad, who’s like a computer wiz. Can anyone help me?

well most dual audio animes are mkv files. download the vlc media player and you should be good. you prob can change the audio of the file and add subtitles if you want.

Matroska video format. As long as you have the proper codecs installed, you should be able to play it with a player that supports it, like Media Player Classic.

OFT unless you use media player classic then just get the matroska codec

MKV files are good since they usually come with mutiple audio sources and or subtitles packed in.

While we’re at it…what on earth is a STR file.

The Player that i think the plays MKV. is VLC

whats the context? it can be several things
for example if you took it from a game its a playstation video file or it could be a screensaver for your computer, etc.

I generally prefer Zoomplayer for “.mkv” files. It’s partly personal preference though.

Thanks guys, I’ll check up on the stuff you gave me.
