back in sf2, ken’s dp travelled waay farther horizontally, which i liked.
His tatsu doesn’t knockdown, although not good, i still like the sound of landing 4 kicks to the face after a 4-6 hit jabstring.

going off the eventhubs october tier list ken has five 4:6 match ups while ryu has eight 4:6 match ups. Now I know its a tierlist and all but I mean doesnt that just make you grin with pleasure?

Playing with Ryu is much more advantageous bcuz of the way they seem 2 make Ken a less “serious” character. Over the years, Capcom has turned Ken in2 a showboating, flashy pretty boy while turning Ryu in2 the Street Fighter Poster Boy. And their distinct differences prove just that.
Simply put my big brother loved Ryu, so that meant I loved Ken.

Now that you mention it i remember this happening with me too and my friends love ryu and always talk how hes the better character so to beat them with ken just has a nice feeling

My friend and I play the opposites for the same reason that we are ryu and ken. He is the calmer, more humble person where im the cocky asshole. I personally like the mix up game and the personally of the character also he shit just looks cooler. I remember being like 7 in the arcade watching people play xmen vs sf and seeing shinryuken, i was like WOW COOLEST THING EVAR! after that its over.
You’re half right. People like winning. That’s why the picked Ken initially because of 3S. I’d say if they were equally as good, it’d be 50/50 or 55/45 for Ryu.

I think Ken is a great character, I have no idea why people keep comparing him to Ryu, they are two completely different characters with different methods of play. Besides, I think being flashy is a big part of the game, I’ve noticed that besides Daigo and Air, I can’t even differentiate between the other Ryu players because they all do the exact same shiet. On the other hand, Ken has a lot more mix-ups and you can incorporate your own style into his combos.
The reasons why Ryu is better than Ken [even still in AE] He has plenty of ways to combo into his ultra and super for outstanding damage from anywhere on the screen!! He still has more powerful linking normal combos than Ken does! Better fireball [better recovery] and faster shoryukens [Ryu’s MP shoryuken invincibility was increased]!! The only downside is Ryu can not tatsucopter out of the corner anymore, however Ken still can!
I like Ken better because he is more suited for my playstyle!
They gave Ken a bunch of new combos… The only thing he was really missing is a knockdown that wasn’t a throw. Taking away tarsus escape from Ryu and leaving it with Ken really put Ken at an advantage. Its hard to get wins with Ken online though because You HAVE to land links…with Ryu its less effort and Ultra 1… in terms of the match up this one definitely moved to at least 5-5… tatsu escape doesn’t allow ryu to travel very far which means he can get zoned much easier now and will lose to kens air tatsu
Air Tatsu isn’t a big deal at all really. It was used just to escape out of the corner mostly and Capcom removing it from Ryu has made his Crossup Tatsu MORE ambiguous. Not too mention the few combos they gave Ken Ryu could already do and then some.
Don’t underestimate Ken’s EX tatsu
Ken looks cooler but Ryu is the easiest character in the game.
