That’s not what I mean. I’m pretty sure something like Ninja Scroll is legally rated as an adult movie.
What I’m saying is, if a Japanese child was watching FoNS, there parents would walk passed and think, “Oh, they’re just watching cartoons.” Now, if they sat down with him and seen the ridiculousness, they’d most likely not let him watch it, depending on how strict they were. That said, they automatically assumed it was a kid’s show, just because it was an anime. Now, if you were a grown man watching FoNS, they’d think you were a geek or a loser/otaku.
So now it’s come down to aesthetics… which is the dumbest thing to be talking about, let alone get your pantsu in a bunch over in a site dedicated to competitive fighting games.
If you go by the standards used for Shounen anime in the 80’s…yes. Nowdays, FoNS is just a franchise aimed towards old salaryman who wants to dwell in nostalgia (AKA: kids from the 80’s). Hence, the publication of Fist of the Blue Sky in a Seinen mag and the huge number of FoNS pachinko machines.
Never really understood why the majority of fighting games players don’t want to see the connection between anime and sf. Honestly, if we go by cookie cutter anime looks you can’t get more anime than the entire Alpha/Darkstalkers series. If the game is fun to play, who cares how it looks?
But then we wouldn’t have any other way to indiscriminately judge those other games. What are we going to do, judge those games on actual Gameplay and Mechanics? Hahahahahaha…NO.
Actually, yeah. If KFC in Japan OFFICIALLY endorses anything, it will be seen as cool, or at least, not as lame to be into. Kinda like how huge companies endorse things here, too boost awareness/sales. It’s a pretty common practice around the world…
And just to clarify, I love anime and manga. I think Blazblue and Guilty Gear look fine. I’m just telling folks what i was told about how that art style is seen over there. I love Naruto, Bleach, Yu-Gi-Oh and a host of other anime and manga. But the average person in the country in which those works originate, view such things as child’s play. I’m just being honest. It’s a tough pill to swallow (it was for me), but get over it.
Blazblue and Guilty Gear LOOK like the most common/current style of ANIME (cookie cutter). Street Fighter LOOKS like the ANIME of yesteryear (retro, I guess). Keep the key point in mind that 90% of anime IS for kids and 100% of anime is seen as kiddie stuff, at 1st glance. Both look like anime, one uses the style that is seen as catering to the current generation of kids and young adults and the other uses a style reminiscent of the last generation of kids and young adults…Who would now be ADULTS. This is why I said what I said.
I understood what you meant the 1st time you said it. I just think people are butthurt cuz you called GG and BB “cookie cutters”, at least the visual design. The only games you’re allowed to diss in anyway are SFs, Marvel, SFxT and oddly enough, Skull Girls. You are allowed to get very personal with Skull Girls.
I says this as a man who loves BB, GG, AH1, and VP. And I HATE SFIV, MVC3, and SFxT with a passion. I hate those games so much that I bust nuts at the thought of breaking the discs.
I am trying to understand the true meaning of anime… I no longer know who I am because I read this thread. I am too retarded to read words, so I need comparison pictures to understand, thanks in advance.
