^which reminds me of One Piece (I like Adventure Time though). People go on and on about how great it apparently is, but I really, really cannot get past the look of that show. It might actually be the ugliest anime I’ve ever seen. It’s like that 90s era of Nickelodeon, where they started putting 1 ugly ass cartoon on after another one… it’s “Nicktoons” of the anime side of the industry. The show is like a plate of turds, smothered in fresh vomit, brussel sprouts and lima beans…and SOUSE served on the side. (haha, I almost grossed myself out with that mental imagery… I might need a Sprite or something in a minute) At least the english dub intro music was awful to the point of being hilarious, and so it entertained me in that way… I’d watch the intro for a few laughs and that was it.
For pure action/adventure stuff, I’m not too picky at all… as long as you have some interesting character design, good fight scenes and cool villains (like my precious Bleach…at least until the terrible disappointment with what happened to the espadas)… it’s good enough for me to enjoy.
Cute girls.
If the girls aren’t cute, you are wasting everybody’s time.
Wacky, heart warming antics.
This is actually very similar to number 1. How the girls act in a situation is one of the most defining features of their personality. Essentially, a cute girl needs a good situation, or scenario to truly shine.
Nudity.
I’ve yet to see any show that is not improved by this,
I guess animation quality is also important. Does she just get some little red marks on her cheeks? Or can you actually see the blood vessels swirling about her face? Is the dance number long, full bodied, fluid and well though out? Or are you just getting clips of arm and leg movement? When her skirt flutters in the wind, and she turns to smile at you, does ALL of her uniform continue to flutter as she brushes her hair away from her eyes? What about when she’s getting undressed? Is there a subtle jiggle to her breasts? Or are they bouncing interdependently all over the place?
Finally, the voice actress is also important. Is she up to the task? Is she just reading the lines, or is she defining the character? Does she have range? Does she have tics or quirks? Can she sing? Do the songwriters do her justice? How good is her crying voice? Can she be grating without being irritating? What does her kansai-ben impression sound like? Ultimately its a question of :“could she be the only one filling in that role?”
Mature storyline: Berserk, Monster, GITS, Death Note, Basilisk. I’m 28 and don’t want to watch shit for kids.
Animation: I prefer the old school look of 90s but if the newer super high quality like the New Evanlegion movies is good too.
Originality: The Japanese seem to love to see the shit over and over but it’s nice when something stands out.
Voice acting: Ok, shoot me but I prefer English dubs these days because my wife will watch it. Usually a great anime in Japanese can be ruined by awful English voice actors since they don’t give care about the original content and probably don’t get paid shit with all the piracy these days.
I second this. I cant watch Soul Eater in English because everyone that isnt Death the Kid sounds like a fucking retard. Plus, when Lord Death gets pissed in Japanese, you can FEEL the anger in his voice. In English its just like " Oh. Your voice went down an octave or two. Thats nice.".
I will add that later. Yes, while it may seem like everything was done, having a copied story like Bleach stealing from Yu Yu Hakusho made it dead boring.
Also agreed with the ending part. Tasogare otome x amnesia (anime) and Yu Yu Hakusho (anime) both had a great ending and Bleach (anime) ending was horrible.
Actually, good thing you stopped watching, because he’s no longer godlike.
I also agree with the villain part. Laxus, a Fairy Tail mage, made a better villain than the actual villains. Also Acnologia destroying the entire island was godlike and Zeref being Zeref, but the anime completely forgot about that. Also forgot about Ultear as well. Like seriously, okay, they were saved and barely survived, I would expect some serious kind of training arc or something but the anime continued, like you mentioned, with a time skip with nothing happening. Someone should have died at least. Maybe Juvia sacrificing herself for Gray and the guild because her gimmick is repetitive and annoying. Some episodes are really good, but yea, most episodes feel like filler.
It had its moments. The beginning of the first episode was godlike and made me set high standards for it so I kept watching. You know, like people continued to watch Bleach to find out everyone’s bankai only to watch the anime ragequit. Which brings us to another point I forgot to include in first post. The “untold story” factor that keeps us watching a show even if it’s bad.
Visually it started horribly but has greatly improved since then. If you quit it I recommend giving it a chance.
Another reason why people stick with Bleach is because the girls are well drawn. I don’t think nudity is necessary though.
Exactly. Most dubs are horrible. There were some dubs which were watchable though like Dragonball Z and Yugioh.
Excessive filler is bad.
To the point full arcs of filler are being alternated with canon arcs. Some are so unbearably bad I actively skip the ones found in Shippuden and Bleach.
Good writing is key but the degree in which it is paramount varies between culturals.
The lead character(s).
I can’t stand to stomach Bleach much longer because of Ichigo. He is a disagreeable archetype and is so vastly different from a hero in a leading role it’s off-putting.
Yusuke, Goku, Kenshiro, Jotaro, Baki, Light Yagami, Kenshin. All much better examples of characters showing real emotion and actually overcoming their woes.
A story that actually goes somewhere. Nothing worse than filler being interspersed and bringing the pace to a crawl.
Compelling antagonists. As much as love Hokuto Shin Ken the sad backstories for most of the Big Bads were contrived and stale by the time Thouzer was killed off.
Voice actors/actresses and the script.
Both elements go a long way in determining if the show is watchable.
Number of episodes/seasons
Less episodes sometimes means the less chance for inconsistencies and plotholes in the story.
Faithful adaptions/True endings
If things truly ended in the same fashion they did in regards to part deux of Hokuto Shin Ken then the anime could have made a little more sense.
The same with Rurouni Kenshin. The ending was a head scratcher and one of the best arcs in the story was not adapted in animated form.
Actually I think the Deadly Force ep is allowed due to the networks only showing the edited version, and the animators made that episode available in it’s original form FREELY. So no copywrite issues come into play.
TL;DR Shinji is the worst character ever, he gives up on humanity because he’s too scared to pilot a mech to kill something, that and when his love interest is [S]passed out[/S] in a fucking coma, he fucking jerks off right next to her and afterwards crys.
Literally the worst piece of attempted “entertainment” I have ever seen.
The sad part is that the story was halfway decent and filled with cool mech shit, but it is clear the guy in charge had no idea how to end his shit.
Eva had a shittier ending than that. Short version: everyone dies in a horrible manner of some sort, Angels win, they ask Shinji if he wants to evolve into a single consciousness or remain individuals. Shinji picks individuals, Asuka comes back (somehow) and then they’re Adam + Eve. Also, the Earth looks hilarious:
And if you didn’t get to watch the movie, you didn’t get an ending, just because.
I am pretty sure the main writer was pissed as fuck with all the hate mail though. Toss in depression and you’ve got a troll formula. I’m liking the new movies, shame they’re so fucking slow though (they’re going in a different direction than the original series did.)
Evangelion was released in the 90’s right? Because that sounds a lot like the last episode or so of Full Metal Panic, which i believe is a more recent show. The difference being the main character got his shit together and hopped back in his mech and dropped some bitches
So this happened, and people lost their opinionated minds in the comments for obvious omissions

I couldn’t get through the whole list. Author said Legend of Korra was a feminist action show. I stood in disbelief for a good minute after reading that.
