What kept Street Fighter Alpha 3 from being godly!

Street Fighter Alpha 3 had the potential to be the best 2d fighter there is. But it made a lot of mistakes though. I really appreciated the huge roster and the fact that each fighter had their own stage. But there were a couple of things that kept the game from having the type of longevity it should have.

  1. I could never get the online part to work. All it ever did was take me to some kind of website. They should have made the online module easier to set up. I have the Saikyo Dojo version on the Dreamcast. Not sure if all that lets you do is visit the website or not but still it was tough to set up.

  2. They could have included the Street Fighter 3 fighters. There’s only like 9 new fighters total in SF3. If they didn’t have the space they could have left out Shawn and Oro.

  3. A tournament mode like the one found in Project Justice and Super Street Fighter II would have been awesome.

  4. Cammy should have been able to switch back to her old costume like Chun-Li.

  5. The training mode could have used some work. It would have been cool to include a movelist.

All I can think of for right now…

Training mode did have a movelist you infant. And who gives an shit what Cammy wears?

A3 and 3S=The best Street Fighter games ever.

What kept SFA3 from being godly?

HOW ABOUT BROKEN ASS PROPERTIES?

How about retarded V-ism properties/combos?

A3 was retarded… and not because of any of the reasons you listed. This coming from someone who loves SFA3 a lot… but I still know it’s a crap game.

V-ISM were too powerfull and too easy. It is like Yun in SF3.

MvC2. Americans are more excited and impressed over being able to do an retarded +100 combo with cable than doing a skilled +10 hit combo with Ryu.

Edit: I had an obvious typo. It was Yun not Yang.

Uh WTF? im not gonna even comment on you anymore…

Oh shit… I wrote Yang instead of Yun. No wonder…

V-ism killed the game.

Third Strike, Alpha 3, and Super Turbo are the best Street Fighters ever. You got to include Super Turbo when mentioning the best SF games. I might get some backlash for this but I think Alpha 3 is better than CVS 2. IMO A Groove is much worse and broken than V-SIM. Alpha 3 has a more balanced and a more classical feel than CVS 2. I don’t know for some reason CVS 2 is boring. I tried playing it but I don’t know. I can’t put my finger on why its not fun. Alpha 3 on the other hand, is one of the best 2D fighting games ever made. Its one of the 4 Capcom classic fighting games along with Third Strike, Super Turbo, and MVC2.

I have a question though? Why does everyone hate Street Fighter Alpha 3 Upper and/or the dreamcast version of Alpha 3 (I assume that the two are the exact same game).

I agree with a lot of your points except I find V-ism far more broken than A Groove. I agree that A3 feels a lot more classic than CvS2 but I think that should be expected–in general I like that CvS2 feels different. If all the different SF universe games played the same way they’d be quite boring. Each and every game has its own style and I think thats pretty cool.

Boring backgrounds (probably rejects from the LAST 2 alphas), stupid gameplay additions (recovery), double button-press throws, v-ism, lame music…by themselves, any one of them could be ignored, but when brought together, much like the Planeteers, they really suck.

Because we all know the only reason to play 2D fighters is music and backgrounds. Stupid games with two button throws (3S) and teching (GGXX) /never/ get any play.

Joke thread people move on

V-ism. However, IMO SFA3 is VERY close to being the best 2D game ever. The character roster alone is remarkable. Capcom also put more effort than usual in single player mode and the story of the game.

I also happened to like the stages AND the music. More game modes would’ve been fun.

SF3 characters shouldn’t have been in SFA3 which takes places 10 years before SF3

A3 = Best juggle physics EVER.

Why are people still complaining about V-ism so much? Sure its still tough to counter, but some of the most recent A3 vids from Japan that I saw had A-Chun Li and Ryus beasting on V-Goukis and Sakuras. Its doesn’t have the edge it used to as players have adapted to it at this stage.

V-ism pretty much ruin A3 alone with infinite which conveniently follow from a vism combo. What make v-ism much better than A-groove in cvs2 is that meters are easy to get in a3, you can activate at 50%, you start the game with meter already.
All the matches I see come down to this. First round is usually the best as the fighters try to gauge each other’s level. By the start of the 2nd round we can pretty much figure out which is the better fighter. The loser will of course start activating left and right doing their unblockable v-ism combo or chip damage combo, then runaway to build meters. The 2nd player will of course chase the opponent down and do his own unblockable vism combo. Then we get the usual build to 50% then activate bs over and over until the match is over. Oh and if the two fighters have fought before you start round 1 like round 2.

There is no incentive to fight with 100% meter as you’re not building meter while the opponent is. The unblockable or chip combo is almost free damage and usually involve multiple fireball in the air, so even if you get counter most likely the 2nd fireball will hit ending any retaliation you might take. You also retain your meter meaning getting to 50%+ is like couple of wiff moves away.

If they gonna have more custom combo in their future game either make them not invincible or have a motion to activate like qcfx2 or something.

None of those reasons have anything to do with the gameplay, like practically every criticism you make of any game. You are a dumbfuck.

daigo = v-ism counter

his Guy is fuckin tops

a3 sucks at high level from what ive experienced, ive tried competing at monte carlo but its vism like 99% of the time and their whole game involves mixing you up with it then doing 50+% damage in one combo, or infiniting your ass…

not even close to the best fighter imo

And this differs from MvC2 how?
