What is the justification on making games more "casual friendly?"

you could also use logic to reach the conclusion that the game was not made for you

honestly I don’t see why people care what the hell people use to do their shit. if someone wants 1 button to do their special move then whatever. to even care is so scrubby imo. then again i’m the same guy that said I’d play vs someone who uses autofire and macros so…

They should just put in an Achievement Win Evo. Bet we get a flood of more serious players…

I love how people complain about execution being too easy while also complain about 1-frame links and any link in general being too hard.

I’m glad you brought this up, because this is my gripe with the SFIV series. Capcom cut the execution down the middle, making special moves and reversals really easy to do, while linking and mult-string combos are difficult. I have an easier time doing cr.short, cr.jab xx super in 3S, which is a much less noob-friendly game.

Am I the only one who thinks SFIV would have done well regardless of how difficult or easy it is to play? The general stereotype that the game buying public has of fighting games is that they have to memorize long combo lists and perform amazing feats of dexterity to even play the games. That is still true to many people regardless of how mashy or user friendly companies try to make their games. What sold SFIV was all the hype around the return of this old and “dead” series into the public consciousness. From my perspective dumbing down the games really served no purpose. The easy motions, the ultra meter, mashy reversals, this is all lost on the typical paycheck blower online Ken j.hk/dp all day dude. All it did was make competitive play a lot less interesting.

Because we all like the “If it’s too HARD play something else!” statement better!

Wrong question.
The right question here would be:
**“Why dumb down fighting games to cater to the Casual gamers?”
**

As if casual gamers were too dumb to learn how to play a “real” fighting game?

I even want to say that if the game was “too easy” and that the first dumbfuck to come around it could do all the special moves and win matches, it wouldn’t have been that successful!

If people now days are too retarded to learn something, fuck them!

The problem is NOT with games being made for “hardcore gamers”, the problem is with “casual assholes” complaining about games being “too difficult”, and not wanting to learn how to play them!

When the first Street fighter / Fatal Fury / [insert here a fighting game in the early 90s] came out, we were all noobs too!
…but nobody complained!
We just learned to play the damn game, because we wanted to get good at it!

Good! …and how is that not compatible with “learning to play the game” and with “stop complaining”?

If you dumb down commands in fighting games now, maybe… MAYBE this generation of players MIGHT be happy with it.

Let’s say to make the hadouken to be forward+punch, and you make it 4 buttons instead of 6.
The next generation of players will complain about 4 button being “too many”, and that there should be a single button to perform a hadouken…

And FG are going to get dumber and dumber just as players, until we turn all gamers into fucking retards with no finger-eye coordination at all!

I agree with that (not really, but whatever… let’s say it makes sense!).

They should optimize the online system so the casuals with few matches/victories play only with people of their level, and the hardcore guys with lots of points/matches play against each other.

It seems to be already the case, but the system should be upgraded in this way.

Fixed!

This is what new players don’t get. You should take a look at the MvC3 forum. Seth said that down + fp is too difficult to launch so in MvC3 they destroyed MvC2 controls, put in TvC controls, and added a launcher button called the exchange button. I mean, are you serious? How retarded do you have to be to not be able to do down + fp and need a launcher button? When Seth made his post that was literally the dumbest poster of the year shit. Capcom lost my respect by them catering to retards and scrubs who won’t put ten seconds into a game to figure out how to launch.

Seriously!

this thread is hilarious. on one hand, there exists a group of people complaining that a game is too execution heavy and the execution barrier should be lowered. then when the barrier is lowered, we have a group that says the game is lacking execution and that the barrier should be raised. both groups are full of selfish idiots. in case you don’t realize it, both are using the same argument, except it’s tailored to suit what THEY want

why don’t you both just play the game that they made (or don’t), in the way that they made it, and STFU. better yet, how bout you make your own fighter

edit:

…what? what… are you talking about at all

If you don’t care then why do you keep posting?

Seriously though a launcher is down+one fucking button, is it too much to ask for new players to do this instead of assigning this command to one button… and I suck horribly at MvC2 and I’m complaining about execution being made too easy…

If I wanted a game that was 100% mind games and no execution skill, I’d play chess for god sake not fucking ST/MvC2…

I couldn’t stop laughing and shaking my head in disgust when Seth said “d+FP was too hard for newcomers”. I mean it’s basically saying I can’t walk and talk at the same time.

What Ireally don’t understand is that with the internet around, no one should REALLY be complaining about a game being too hard. We have pools of resources to learn a mechanics of a game (youtube, google, srk, many different smaller forum sites, Gamefaqs, FAQs, in store guidebooks still help at times.) and considering people who played fighters in the 90s didn’t have any of this shit, I find it really hard to believe casual gamers can’t google/youtube simple shit.

So people can do a qcf+p but can’t do a simple launcher that is d+FP? :shake:

So honestly, mechanics don’t matter when it comes to appealing to casuals, so we need to stop worrying about that, and just bring back the World Tour mode from console Alpha 3 and casuals are set.

From there just make a game engine that’s fun and competitive and roll with it.

QFT!

Hence:
@Casual douchebags: stop complaining already, and learn how to play the games!
@Developpers: Keep the systems as they are. DO NOT dumb things down, it will kill your games!

The gameplay in a FG is what it is, what it was meant to be, just deal with it!

Nobody complains about the goals in soccer/ice hockey being “not wide enough” and making it “too hard” to score!

tennis sucks because i cant hit it as good as federer and i cant yell at people as good as mcenroe

lrn to kara the serve nooblord

I agree. The ball and tennis racket should be changed such that the ball travels as slow as possible so everyone could keep up and so that everyone would be able to force the ball at its terminal velocity in order to maintain balance. This will get more people to play and pay for tennis. Also the tennis court is way too big, it should be made smaller such that the physically handicapped could reach the ball without moving much.

after all, the real game in tennis is the mind games. why should i have to spend a bunch of time in singleplayer with the ball shooting machine? i just want to get right to it, to the mind games

Hahahahaha

fuck you both racquetball is the shit.
