i dont think its fair to compare any sf2 to anything post sf2
its fine to compare the different versions to one another, i.e. hf<st…but to compare TIMELESS CLASSICS to games that were forward progressions in a growing genre/industry is somewhat odd imo. anything but sf2 (ST specifically, the most well rounded version imo) is foolish (ALL time) because of what it means to the genre/industry.
even comparing 4 to anything is not fair yet as the past games have had multiple revisions, and we havent even seen 4.2 yet… its an unfair comparison.
of the second era…i think 3s is more significant than a2/a3. a2 and a3 are equally awesome. a3 was the peak of sf popularity in the 20th century. that said, a2 was the better game imo, and 3s didnt find itself until early 2000’s, when it became the leading game of the franchise…til now. a2 and a3 lacked staying power compared to 3s. they were all amazing and popular for their times, but 3s had the longer lifespan.
