What is it about fighting games that set it apart from other games?

Street Fighter x Tekken has broken new ground by having F2P bullshit while not actually being free to start with!

High level Starcraft/LoL is a lot more about counterpicking and the number of buttons you can press in a minute. While high level fighting games is all about the ability to read and predict your opponent, whether he will attack low or high, whether he will press something that’s unsafe, whether he will have a execution error, etc. Which is more a luxury than something essential in other competitive games.

I don’t know what you mean by counter picking (early game builds maybe?), but I have seen high level Starcraft games that were won with excellent reads in the late game. I think you’re selling Starcraft short if you think there isn’t a large amount of analysis and reading going on.

Don’t lump Starcraft in with LOL/MOBAs.
