hypothetically, if you were to become a professor for a fighting games course at a college, and you had to make 5 different classes related to becoming better at fighting games, what would your 5 classes be?
Mine would be like this:
-
SS4ae(change to ultra once if it was released) - This is a good first fighting game to learn, students could learn about the game, footsies and really good basics and fundamentals for fighting games. Also to become generally good at fighting games, its always good to focus on atleast one for a little while. I think sf4 would be a great game to focus on and using to teach people the basics of fighting games.
-
Basic 2d Fighting Game Theory
-There is a lot here to be covered, but the name of the course explains itself. -
3d fighting games
- talk about what kind of changes and things are made when the game changes into a 3d format for games like soul calibur, virtua fighter, tekken, etc.
- Characters and play styles
- Talk about different play styles characters in fighting games can have. Cover the basics of turtling, rushdown, grapplers , rushdown etc.
- Training mode
- This last one would be utilizing training mode. There could be practical exams based on certain kinds of combos or techniques that have to be performed. Also using the settings in training mode in order to practice efficiently.
How would you guys design a course like this? I want the focus to be more about getting good at fighting games rather than about fighting games(no talking about fighting game history or anything like that more practical stuff that will directly teach students to be good at fighting games)
Also this is just completely hypothetical, im a college student myself so randomly thought about it, i have no intentions on actually starting something like this, just thought it was an interesting topic and i could apply some of these things on my own to teach myself to become better at fighting games.
