Capcom has too much pride for something like that most big gaming companies do, still I’m SURE capcom can an has the money to make SF5 but now isn’t the time for it tbh I actually would like to see a darkstalkers game done just like how XRD is done since darkstalkers isn’t really a big series.
I honestly want to know the answer to this question as well, but know that for the most part gaming budgets are kept secret; and the only reason we even know Street Fighter 4’s estimated budget because it was revealed during the Skullgirls Indiegogo campaign.
I wouldn’t be surprised if it was in the millions as well.
Street Fighter doesn’t need crowdfunding. Darkstalkers does.
This. Capcom is a for-profit corporation with deep pockets. When people with money like Zach Braff use crowdfunding for their projects, it kills the whole point of crowdfunding in the first place. And how much you wanna bet that if they actually did this, even if you donated, you’d still have to pay for the game again once it game out?
A couple of problems with a crowdfunded SF5:
[list]
[*] Capcom is a corporation. Crowdfunding is for those who don’t have the means to get funding from publishers/investors/etc. Capcom is capable of funding their own games. Ono said there’s no budget for SF5, but that can always change later down the road if/when Capcom finds their next hit.
[*] A big problem with crowdfunding is that you have to commit to any features you want to add to the game. What this means is, if a feature isn’t working out, you can’t just simply remove it. It’s not a good look when someone funds your game, only to remove something that they were looking forward to. Recall when Lab Zero had their character polls, and how some people threatened to take their money back if X character didn’t make it in the game. Paypal withheld money because they were afraid of chargebacks. This is one reason why crowdfunding won’t replace traditional means of securing funds: you have to put up with irrational people. A good publisher will let the devs create their game and not get in the way too much; with crowdfunding, you’re at the mercy of the common people.

As much as I would like to see a SF5, it’s neither possible nor a good idea to make it a crowdfunded game.
That’s just silly. This would be like McDonald’s crowd funding new grills for their resteraunts. Or Six Flags crowd funding a new roller coaster. This is my main issue with kick starter. All these indie fighters and shit asking for handouts when they’re trying to make a profit off what they’re doing. If what you’re doing is for profit, invest your own damn money.
