What if Capcom crowdfunded Street Fighter V?

What was the budget for SF4? About 10 million right? Each additional release I would guess would be between 2.5-10 million given the number of characters.

just support small time devs who actually need it. Capcom doesn’t need crowdsourcing

Not sure why anything like this is construed as inherently a bad idea as opposed to another idea. I watched a documentary on the Life of Brian (movie) today: they mentioned that the only reason that got made is because George Harrison gave them a million pounds because “he just wanted to see the movie”. Kickstarter potentially operates as a post-middleman market wherein if 3 million people really want SFxT, they can fund and get that game. Foreclosing a funding source for someone else seems weird and non-productive, especially as the other side of the FGC face complains about gaming companies not putting enough money into tournament prize pools.

If we really want things to improve and grow, seems like we should be open to more options. This doesn’t seem like a Capcom thing to do, but what if it was a way for them to get Megaman Legends 3 to you? shrug

This may work with a company in everyone’s good graces like Valve, or riot, but Capcom?

Not only have people been disliking the games that they have been making, but from the business aspect of it people have also been hating how much money capcom wanted them to spend to stay competitive, justified or not. SFxT was like the final nail in the coffin. After that PR nightmare, they have to get on everyone’s good side and do good things before they can even consider doing such a thing. Doing it now may just kill the company.

Capcom doesn’t need crowdfunding. They are a major publisher and many successful games under their belt. They can fund any fucking game they want themselves. Leave Kickstart and Indiegogo for companies that actually need it

“they want” would be the interesting part of that phrase, which brings us back to Megaman Legends 3.

I don’t believe that it’s possible to be in everyone’s good grace, nor think that’s a useful nor scientific metric. It’s probably useful to ignore those disinterested in working with you. Instead work with those who do want to work with you, and see if maybe you can get the pouty curmudgeons interested in your excellence regardless.

As re ‘how much you spend to remain competitive’, that flies in the face of “please give us money to support our tournaments” and is intriguingly laughable in regards to the financial investment most people made during the arcade era. Probably this whole grand design in the current market demand and realities takes some substantial adjusting to: looks like Capcom is working on that. No particular need to keep them slow-roasting for missteps.

10 million? It was closer to 40 million.

Go home Ono, you’re drunk.

And quit doing market research on forums.

They wasted a lot. You’d think the character models would have looked a lot better considering.

You gotta keep in mind it’s a 5 year old game that was in development for several years before that.

Virtual Fighter 5 came out before SF4 and had better 3D models.

Virtua Fighter also has been modeled in 3D since it’s inception, and has been able to gradually improve on it with every iteration that subsequently followed.

What about the EX series? That’s still no excuse bro.

The EX series died over a decade ago, however can you not see that if they continued that series and gradually improved on their engine and modelling characters in 3D that they would be in a much better position in creating better quality characters for cheaper instead of starting from scratch?

With that said, I still think the Street Fighter 4 characters look fine for that art style.

Lol at several years, the game started development around the launch of BattleFantasia, so at best it had 2 years of development.

SFIV was also trying to emulate a certain artistic style instead of going for realistic looking 3D models.

While I won’t call the early SFIV stuff pretty, at least they had their heart in the right place. Now if only the they weren’t trying to copy an artist trying to copy another artist (Ikeno trying to do Akiman style stuff).

I wasn’t certain the exact development cycle so I gave myself some leeway using several instead of couple. LOL

The problem is not that they are trying to imitate and artist imitating another artist, the problem is that while the art looks acceptable on 2d, that shit doesn’t work on 3d, seeing the horrible monkey hands and feet that plague all the girls is just disheartening.

It doesn’t make sense when they go close up, but it actually does when viewed from a 2D perspective (not if only the hitboxes matched).

Also, from what we’ve seen on the released media at least, the hands and feet in Xrd are also “sprite-sized”. Though I guess a combination of the toon shader and better polygon work make them look better.

Anyone know the budget of Guilty Gear Xrd?
