Yeah bud, tell me how great AE 2012 is on PC when you have to restart the game if you need to change what sticks are plugged in, and good luck playing anime on PC.
Never mind the fact that on PC when you’re an online warrior you have to worry about their connection and the power of their machine–even in something as simple as divekick people with weak machines are impossible to play against when their system is chugging and dropping frames.
Shit gets weird, crazy and inconsistent–and as more and more games become less and less stable after being ported these days (no matter how much QA you do there’s ALWAYS some hardware combinations that will flat out not run your game).
PC is master race for single player games that have mod tool support, mobas and RTS games. Console is master race for everything else bub.
And that is pretty much right out of A+ Certification text books too.
There always going to be that particular hardware combination that for what ever reason has no compatibility or poor compatibility.
And there too, too many possible PC hardware configurations to figure out everything.
It is where the weakness and strength of the Console hardware comes into play, the Hardware is static. Yes the system goes with out upgrades for 5 to 8 years, but the hardware configuration is known and is the same for each player.
Glad I started this thread, loads of good insight and opinions from everyone. It felt like a bit of a dumb question, but I think it was something I had to get some advice on rather than just making an uninformed decision. Thanks for the responses and grats on keeping it all civil!
Then get a PS3/Wii/WiiU for exclusives. Unless you’re running an event where you must swap out controllers every match or Marvel 3 and you’re so hardcore you will notice the difference between the PS3 and 360 versions there is little to no reason to have a 360. I guess I liked Blue Dragon.
Edit: If you’re just playing SF online I’d still say PC. GGPO 3S and PC AE are nice.
Consoles are cheaper and more consistent at actually running games (as mentioned before), it’s not a straight answer like, “buy a pc” it’s a collage of what you want to get out of games, your budget, how you handle frustration (working 9-5 as like a social worker / domestic law = you probably don’t want to go home to play MGR and have it not run).
There are tons of people who are computer gurus who love tuning hardware and are capable with understanding that sometimes games won’t run, but you can tune the performance and often get better visuals+framerate over consoles.
It’s like arcade sticks, go with what works for you, not what someone else says.
For example 360 is better because even in the beginning when it first came out, one of the first things that happened was a few games/game developers that were originally PS titles/platforms migrated from PS to Xbox when the 360 came out. And these days w/ games like COD we get DLC at least a month before PS3 owners (though that may be cause sony has contracts blocking it)
Yes we pay for online service but it’s only $60 for the year…which works out to only $5 a month, which is really nothing if you have any kind of income. Though there are other options like paying $10 a month or $25 every 3 months as well.
And while PS3 people may thinks that’s crazy I see paying for it is as actually a good thing cause it means that microsoft will spend some of the money on improving their service doing things like upgrading to better servers, add more to it’s service, better online security, and possibly even gives game companies a bit of an incentive to give 360 owners early/exclusive access to some content (like w/ activision and the DLC for the COD franchise)
I’d also like to think that having to pay for online play keeps some people/kids off it…though of course one downside to that is we get a ton of little kids in this topic begging for people to give them codes like it’ll actually happen, lol (cause it doesn’t).
There’s other little things like the batteries not frying in the controls and ruining them so your only option to buy a new one. Or getting kicked out of games because of lousy servers/signal. But really the biggest one is SECURITY…which these days is a big priority for anything online.
Since 360 owners pay it means microsoft wants to do everything it can to keep it’s customers happy and that means they keep all that info about it’s millions of customers as safe as possible. So that means we worry a lot less about our info and credit card numbers getting stolen when the manufacturer’s servers get hacked…cause of course that hasn’t happened to microsoft but it’s happened to Sony TWICE!!!
(both times in the last year or so if I remember right)
So really PS3 people may say theirs is better but as far as I’m concerned that whole “free online play” seems pretty lame/dangerous when you actually think about it.
Uh, PC all the way until a clear winner for PS4/Xbone is set. In fact, just play on PC anyway.
If you want 3S, you can play via unofficial GGPO save states (ask someone to send you one and you can play 3S “Karnov’s Revenge”) or you could hop on Supercade where 3S works out the box.
If you want SF4, best version is PC version. But I would wait until Ultra comes out, and then pick it up or wait until you can get SF4AE for $5 on Steam sale. 360 and PS3 aren’t any better off for finding competition anyway these days, so might as well go with one you can play now without shelling out $200.
And the Xbox 360 is known to have Red Ring of Death issues even in the new Slimline consoles way too often. Yes the PS3 has the Yellow Light of Death but this is one out of every thousand or so, the Xbox 360 has a 1 in every 5 failure rate.
Yeah, I’ve had like 4 360’s over the years and they all red ringed eventually. Just didn’t want to switch to ps3 at the time, as all my controllers and games we’re for the 360.
As in the opening post though:
Obviously the argument of what console is better, would undoubtedly rear it’s ugly head, but I feel some of the posts are beginning to sway a little off topic. I know the pros and cons of each system in regards to performance and reliability and do indeed have my own views on what a frustrating experience it can be, being a Microsoft customer.
I was primarily interested in opinions of what platform is more highly regarded in terms of a street fighter community and engine accuracy.
Super Nintendo Street Fighter is a pretty bad port though, lol.
Most accurate version is going to be PC hands down. PC has a decent community. Your next best bet is Xbox, which will probably have the largest community. Then PS3, but it’s the least accurate and the community size is about the same or smaller than PC.
If Ultra comes out on PS4, it will be the largest community most likely.
Again, I would just wait it out a year or so and pick up the PC versions and see how things roll. If you need your 3S fix, there is GGPO and Supercade. From what I recall, the scene for 3SO is pretty dead on both consoles.
An Arcade perfect port of Street Fighter II would not be possible for home console til the Dreamcast/PS2 Era.
An Arcade Perfect port was just not possible on the SNES and Genesis. But that said, the SNES version of SF II is not a bad port, and despite some graphical downgrade is pretty faithful to the original.
The Genesis and PC DOS version of the game had garbage sound, and they are the only 2 versions that could compete with the SNES version. I not even approach the other 8 versions of the game (11 total in the SNES/Gensis era)
