Without a doubt: WEAPONLORD
Best fighting game I ever played. The design, detailed characters, stages, the music, the depth of the mechanics, the death combos, everything in this game was awesome. The final stage with the demon statue bathing in hills of bones and the claw gripping the giant red moon caused me and my friends all to go “holy shit” back in the day.
It also reinvented the fighting game genre with ideas like forward blocking or executing special move motions while holding the button down.
Pocket Fighter
Seconded. It’s actually a really deep game when people look past it’s presentation. The world also needs more Garou:Mark of the Wolves.

In spite of the first game being utter shit I actually did like the characters and moves.
Seeing them make a come back in a game that’s actually worth playing would be great.
Larcen would be top tier.

The engine being broken aside, a lot of those characters shit all over most of the original designs we’ve seen in fighters over the past 10 years, Xavier, Larcen, and Raven come to mind instantly. The stage fatalities were awesome and even the joke animal characters had a certain charm like that rooster’s special move where the farmer runs on screen and cuts his head off.
Rival Schools.
Variable Geo, without all the H-scenes. Or a spiritual successor to it (specifically AVG2).
SNK should make NGPC downloadable titles, that would be hype. I’d love to see another game that played like Gals Fighters or SvC Match of the Millenium. Also that art style was fantastic.
