What does flashing green connection mean in SSF4?

Originally I had thought it was worse than 0 bars because if I waited a couple of seconds they stopped flashing and went blank, but today for the first time I accidentally connected to one and it turned out it was full green and the connection was great.

Was that a fluke or is flashing green actually the best?

I believe flashing green just means your game isn’t immediately sure how good the connection is. Basically, it’s going to be sort of random if you pick a flashing one; some of them will be good, some of them will be yellow, others will be really bad.

Cool thanks for the quick reply!

From my experience they are usually just bad. I have received some good games from them before though too.

I think it makes sense that the majority of them are bad - your game can’t tell right away if they don’t get a ping response right away, which, more often than not, means a bad connection. You can occasionally get lucky though, I think.

I usually get lucky with those. Either I can connect and it’s green or at least yellow or I get cannot connect at all. It’s pretty rare that I try a flashing green icon and get someone with red/orange (though it does happen)

The game is still pinging the user, if you notice… the 3 green bars are the first to show up, then yellow, then red.

pinging: sending a packet between you and the other user to see how big the lag is going to be

Flashing green just means you’re trying to establish a connection.

^that’s what I thought too.
