So I was watching this vid, and had some thoughts. Typically, a workout regimen is split between different body groups done on different days. If you stay consistent, you start seeing results, far better than if you’d just walked into the gym and started doing random stuff with no real goals set. Likewise, entering training mode with a game plan prevents you from sitting there and repeating the same combo [N] number of times, and coming away having learned nothing new.
With that said, what would an optimized “training mode regimen” look like? Obviously these might differ between games, but the same principles apply.
You would practice like a musician. I was gonna write something about it but people seem to think musicians are just these ethereal creatures with the gift of gods as opposed to hard working individuals.
Since there’s no fighting game classes and the closest thing I can compare an arcade stick to is a music instrument, I’d say do the same shit people who learn instruments do:
Repeat, repeat, repeat, repeat.
If you learned something wrong: Repeat it the right way even more.
Strategy and application obviously comes from just playing people.
I guess it’s a good idea though to practice your shit until you can “freestyle” everything your character can do.
Being able to use your character as extension of your mind and hands should be the goal, then you can start to actually play the fucking game.
