You could include comments with your rep, only premium members could give negs, and of course a ton of butthurt '09-and-up posters all because their poor widdle rep bar had some red on it. Google “LaSwagga YouTube” for maximum rofls.
But ultimately, reps/negs meant nothing at all. You could even disable rep if you had a premium subscription. Respected posters had a full red/neg bar for jokes. Too bad that something so trivial ended up turning this site upside-down.

It was great. People that made stupid posts got irritated when an onslaught of red showed up beneath their avatar/name. It also became somewhat about favoritism at times which at least I thought some members were just riding on others’ nuts to “abuse” this system. All in all, I thought it actually did more good than harm and kept a lot of people in check. But that was just one of many things I liked when I joined in 07. Another was how less PC the forums were and how if you really wanted to tell someone, you could on full blast. Now, you have to be all tender and loving about it or else it’s the ban bus.
It was perfect. I could +rep -neg your post, and tell you why without having to quote it and clutter up the thread.
However, rep wont make GD better, but it will certainly make me feel better about buying this year of prem considering I get nothing for it now.

I ‘actually’ don’t feel anything is ‘wrong’ with GD, I think it serves its purpose and does it well. I don’t think the rules are too strick - nor do I feel they are too loose. IMO the mods have done a pretty good job of staying lax but in control. It IS a fighting game site, so if GD shrinks in a size in comparison that shouldn’t be too much of an issue. A couple notes…
I post mostly in ‘Super Threads’. I think in concept they are pefectly fine, but there are a few ‘issues’ at hand. Look at something like the 360/Wii/PS3 type threads where a first post could be super useful, the problem is its such an evolutionary beast, that it would be a joke to try and start one and maintain it. But then someone such as myself will pop into the PS3 thread and ask a question thats not easily searchable, but has been answered somewhere in the 60+ pages already, and thus it gets ignored/passed by…on the flip - if I start a thread about the topic at hand (say interest in a family friendly game not destroyed by CPU assistance) - it will and SHOULD be closed as the topic belongs in the Super Thread. I do ‘not’ have a real solution to this thats ‘realisitic’ to maintain, but the Super Threads might need a slight ‘break-up’. Not micro-break up - the aforementioned rap thread should NOT be split into something like region, but maybe “Hip-hop currently listening to/discovery”, “Hip-hop news & gen disc”…it increases the thread and becomes a lot less ‘intimidating’, because as someone who post in there it IS comical when someone pops into a thread thats been going on for esssentially a decade+ asking if we’ve heard of ‘Cypress Hill’. No one gets anything out of it and a possible new member to the rap thread community gets shut-out/flamed-out.
One thing that might be up for consideration is actually a ‘compression’ of forums. I understand ‘why’, but some of the non-Fighting game forums could/should be compressed a bit. I’d rather there be a few ‘Super threads’ for different types of videos - in GD than another forum. I can’t speak for everyone, but my habit is pretty much I have a link to GD, I open that…I don’t go anywhere else unless I’m looking up info on a character I want to experiment with. Periodically I pop up in the Trade section, but regardless - its not that I wouldn’t be interested in looking at some of that stuff, its just out of site/out of mind. Heck someone in the Avenger’s Movie thread was saying we have a comic book section…I’ve been here since 01 I think (maybe 02 I registered - whenever the Great Fighter.net crash happend) - and I didn’t even know that. So a slight re-organization of forums might be of interest.
But really, it is what it is. We can groan and bitch about better posters, but I’ve watched that too, where a few posters become Jeses Lite and it becomes “If you aren’t 'Super-Saiyjin-Gouki1987” then your post will still get ignored.
If GD just wants to drum up interest? Offer something like 1 month free Premium or something (above mods I know, just saying).

i don’t think anything is really “wrong” with GD, everyone is just getting old. i post less bcuz i have less time and after 9 years, there’s rarely a topic on SRK that’s new. i don’t really think there’s a way to make older posters give a shit about younger posters views on topics that have already been discussed a fuckton of times.
This is my exact sentiment, only change 9 years to 6. Honestly the only thing that could make GD better for is if some of the older posters came back. I wish there was a way to say that without nut riding but I can’t think of one. The posting quality has just dwindled too much for me and now I see lots of posts that are just “lol” or “meh” with a picture attached. Doing that shit makes threads go stale faster than leaving bread out in humid air.
Also so I don’t sound too negative, GD is the only place on the internet where I can take a year’s leave of absence and come back and still feel like family without anyone skipping a beat. Newer members see that as “elitist” (also I got a laugh at the scrub above, though I think he’s being sarcastic) but oh well, are you going to go to a bar or since this is a fighting game forum an arcade, roll up on a group and expect them to instantly want you to hang out with them by forcing yourself on them? Luckily here it’s far less awkward than that but being offended that you’re not treated the same is the same principal.
Also I hear Valaris bathes in bacon grease, I could smell it on him in Vegas.

seriously kids these days on the internets go online expecting to be coddled and loved. this forum does not have that culture. there are plenty of internets forums that do. i find this place particularly refreshing and entertaining. how to maintain it? prevent mods on other forums from giving infractions here.

I agree in making the comic forum a sub-forum in GD being as GD has a few comic inspired threads with in it already. The video thread should also be a sub forum under GD. I remember back in the day when videos would be posted all the time in GD as it’s own thread before they moved it to it’s own section. I’m not saying to make a thread for every video, but some of the better videos would end up creating a very funny or discussion heavy thread. The video thread doesn’t get much traffic and I feel that is because most of the people that would post in it are in GD.

what would really improve GD (for me at least) is if the crazy story thread from the vBulletin server magically reappeared on this new server . or if someone so happened to archive all of these stories, they’d re-make the thread with pristine organization of each author and his/her corresponding works . basically creating a table of contents, if you will .
those stories changed my life to be perfectly honest with you; i wouldn’t really be the person i am today if i hadn’t read into the crafty ways of shaft, stuck, sifu and company . the ‘new’ crazy story thread barely has any interesting write-ups in it, and has been dead for months now . doesn’t really look like it’s coming back to life any sooner, either .
i suppose this isn’t really a definite sure fire ‘way to improve’ the GD per say . . . but if it were possible for any mods/admins with illuminati archives of old files, i feel that restoring that thread would definitely inspire some new blood to share their lives with us . in turn, it would bring some new interesting, crazy shit back into GD .
i’ve met some of my best friends throughout my time here, and it sucks to see that so much stuff has changed and people are just sticking in their own little corners of the site these days . the crazy story thread was that thread where i saw NOT ONE FLAME towards anyone . it truly felt like a bonfire that all of us just came in and sat around while niggas were telling the most interesting stories about themselves . stuckey’s stories and his cliffhangers between “chapters” gave me more blue balls than any woman has in my entire life haha .
i kno rite there were so many godlike and epic posts and threads over the years, many filled with wisdom, drama, lulz, tragedy, and hate. i wish somebody had archived them.
