Honestly I don’t see a problem. I like GD as it is. I’m a more recent member of GD, an '11er, and I feel like I got a pretty warm welcome. Most of the OG’s here are pretty cool to me. Sure I’ve gotten into disagreements and arguments with a few people, but that’s differences of opinion that would happen regardless of what subforum or thread we are talking about. People tend to gravitate towards people with similar interests. GD has a lot of various interests that the FGD, MVC, or SF forums don’t.
For instance, I’ve gotten to know a handful of people from the League of Legends thread and talk to these guys daily. A lot of people in the Avengers movie, Spiderman, or other comic related threads I can connect with and engage in discussion all day. I suck at most fighting games honestly, so I don’t spend an extended period of time in the respective game threads because I end up only casually playing each game for a couple months before moving on. I don’t want to talk about Marvel vs Capcom 3 all day, so I don’t go to that forum but once in a blue moon. I want to read about fishjie getting tazered in the face, or goody dropping knowledge on the current state of the world, or trade beard stories with dirzzt. We have threads for every special interest, and I don’t think people need to be herded to a specific section that doesn’t cater to their interests. If MVC OTT wants to shoot the shit with other MVC players that’s their cup of tea. I took a sip and decided tea tastes like shit. Here I am.
At the same time, making fun of different interests is a part of humanity nobody here is going to change. I don’t see an issue with the OTT being a mindless wall of nonsense if that’s what they gravitate towards. People are going to shit talk it, just like people are going to ridicule the Bronies, the Diablo fanatics, or my Hulk fanboyism. It’s fucking life. Drama is entertaining, let it ride out imo.
The join date retorts are douchebaggery, but only serious douchebags really go there with any level of seriousness, and it’s easy enough to dismiss that kind of idiocy imo.
